..Does anyone have this problem?? I currently have braids in I dont know if its a good thing or bad thing. Any advice on how to baby my broken off pieces?????:wallbash:

I wish I could help, but I've always had that problem at the crown. The longest my crown has even been is when I kept my hair braided. So as long as your braids aren't too tight, it should be a good thing. Just be sure to keep that area moisturized while you have the braids in.

I have the same problem right now. It comes and goes and is also my "stress spot". I just use castor oil or vitamin e oil on it and massage it and that's about it. Make sure you drink lots of water, eat right and take your vitamins.

I've had that problem in the past, and the difference between now and then is sleeping on my sation pillow cases, silk protein treatments, and castor oil with protective styles.

i have had this problem for the longest.. my middle is damage and shorter then the rest of my hair.. i never give myself trims in that area because i want it to catch up with the rest of my hair but every time i find myself styling it seems that area has the most splits ends and i really just want to cut it even but im afraid of the result

I had a bit of a problem with this earlier in the year. I just started paying extra attention to the area with my conditioners and moisturizers. I also used BT and Vatika Oil there every day. Castor oil helped also. Now, problem solved. I still keep an eye on that area, though.

This is my famous breakage spot....I had a silver dollar size area come break off at the line of demarcation....it was so short I couldnt grab it. Now only a month later it is more than 2 inches long and seems to be growing back in fine. Ive been paying extra attention to that area with moisture and conditioning, and I have been massaging it with my MTG concoction every few days. I recently started using Vatika oik and plan to start using it on my hair and scalp often. And I take a multivitamin with iron (I think my iron is low), msm, and biotin every day or two....or three....:look:
I have a hard time remembering to take vitamins!

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who has this problem. I've had this problem for a minute now and I'm not sure why. At one time I thought it was overprocessed but I'm not sure. I stretch my relaxer and relax the back last. It seems like it trying to thin out again and I'm not sure why. I was beginning to think I had some type of alopecia(I hope not)

Is there really such a thing called "stress spot" A beautician told my mom that everyone has a "stress spot" but I don't really believe that.

Is there really such a thing called "stress spot"

I believe it. Some people have "problem" areas that need special care. For example, some people will wear a ponytail in the same area and never change the positioning. Then they end up getting breakage in the area where the ponytail was positioned that was because of putting too much stress in that particular area.

Anyhow, I also used to always get breakage in my small area in my crown. It is much more fragile than the rest of my hair. Prior to being a member here, I used to get braids regularly and never really moisturized or washed my hair. I only washed/deep conditioned between braid installs. The rest of my hair used to be fine except for that area in my crown.

Now, I 'baby' that area by putting extra product there and being extra careful not to over manipulate that area. When I deep condition, I always put extra conditioner in my crown. Or when I put in my leave-ins, I always put extra in my crown. Also, I minimize wearing certain hairstyles that will cause too much tension on the crown. My crown is now thriving and catching up to the rest of my hair.

Me too. Then I realized i was making it worse by parting my head in four sections constantly to apply relaxer, plait and everything else. Now i dont do that and its coming back little by little. And all the things the other ladies have added about the special care. hth

I have this same problem. This area seems to grow the fastest and break the fastest. I washed my hair today and I had the most breaking and shedding coming from this area. I already use castor oil and jojoba oil, so I will try to focuss on this area more and make sure that I massage it daily.

I have that problem going on now where do i find vatika oil?

Do a google search for indian grocery stores in your city(u should find the addresses by doing this). If you cant find any locally(so u can save shipping costs), you can order it online. I know u can get it from amazon.

ITA with Nixx. Before LHCF, I always had that prblem. As a matter of fact, it would break starting from the crown and slowly spread in a line towards my nape. It was so bad that I would never leave my hair out b/c of the damage. Now I know that it needed more moisture than the other areas of my hair and I baby this area to death and it is growing so nicely. Baggying this area for a few months has really helped a great deal.

I had this issue a long time ago and now I realize that it's because my crown is the driest and most textured area (4b). Whereas, the other areas are 4a. Yet, I neglected that area the most. I now give it waay more attention and moisture and it's doing great.

i've had breakage in that area for the last 6 years. it would break then grow then break off again. i now know it was due to my neglect of that area when i put moisturizers on. but i also wasn't trimming those dead ends off. i didn't want my hair in that seciton to be 2in long so i held on to those ends. it only made things worse. so 2 months ago i just sucked it all up and trimmed off all those broken edges in that area. yea it sux now cuz i have a HUG section back there that is prob no more than 3 in long. but i figure it's for the better

I discovered the same problem, too. just picture Alfafa from little rascals:lachen:
It's growing back on its own...what contributed to mine was the way I wrap my hair...I always get that poof in the middle so I started to pin it down whenever I wrapped my hair. so I've cut that out completely...I'm trying to wrap and not use pins at all....trying!!! here's my hair post wrap

Same here for me - my hair starting from the crown to the back has more texture than other areas and is drier. So now I apply the most DC and moisturizer there to compensate. Also be extra gentle when detangling that section and always wear your scarf or bonnet to bed.

Same here. I hate it :ohwell:. When I self-relax, I start there, b/c I realized that it's the coarsest part of my hair, and when I waited to relax it last, it was breaking off even more. In that section, I make sure to slather the length and ends in base so that I am only relaxing the new growth, and dust it separately from the rest of the hair, and this has been helping. Ditto to everyone else who said they moisturize/condition this area separately as well.

My crown area is the same. It grows faster than any other part of my head, but breaks the fastest. I think the texture is different, and it's more fragile. It's always been this way, whether I've been relaxed or natural.

Thanks leslie i'll have to check that out soon.

Carefull with the braids tho...when they clean up the braid and cut the fray hairs...it could be ur hair. This happened to me when i recently got braids. I got good growth.. 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch in different spots, but now my hair is a tad bit thinner.
So now i am back to my conrows with beads...see fokti.
Could be also that I haven't permed my hair since the end of Sept and it could just seem shorter/thinner because of the Ng lifting everything up a tad.
ahh well, but I know that the girl "cleaning up" the braids did do some thinning to my hair.
Guess that's what I get for being lazy and getting my braids professionally done instead of doing them myself.

I have had the problem of breakage in the middle of my head - I agree with the other posters treat your crown special with extra dc's, oil and massages.

If you feel you have a different texture in the area that is breaking, you *may* not be giving it enough coverage with your products. It turns out that was my problem.

Since beginning of November, I've been paying special attention to the crown and back by applying conditioner, henna, oils, etc. there first and section-by-section to ensure more thorough coverage.

Today I noticed when twisting my sections that the back now feels and behaves almost exactly like the front. Previously, the ends were so rough and dry that plaits and twists at the back never unraveled because the ends would stick together. Now the back unravels like the front and has to be clipped to not come undone.

I henna & indigo once a month, oil, wash with ayurvedic powders, and DC weekly. I have also been applying a coconut-castor-ylang ylang mix daily. It's taken about six weeks to see improvement following this change in my application technique. I hope to see more growth retention and length in the coming weeks and months.

HTH ladies and let us know how you resolve your problems with breakage at the crown. :)
