I really stepped in it this time. I relaxed my hair last night, after about 20 weeks without one. I was somewhat determined to make this transition thing work, but my ex-husband is coming to town and I thought a relaxer would help me look my best (as in, look but don't touch). Anyway, I went back to my trusted Silk Elements and MAN, I burned so bad! I have chemical burns everywhere!

Needless to say, I'm going natural--period! I had forgotten that the reason I stopped relaxing was because of the burn. I won't have that problem anymore. I had mastered the half-wig so much so, that while in Texas this weekend, my best friend of 20+ years didn't know it was a wig.

I just wanted to vent. From now on, I'm going to hold tight to the natural threads to stay inspired.

I'm sorry you got burned . When I don't base my scalp well with a petroleum-based product or if I scratch before a relaxer, I get terrible burns, too. Once or twice, my hair got STUCK to my scalp!

Good luck with your transition!

I guess that's my reward for thinking vain thoughts and wanting to look a certain way to my ex-husband. Seriously, no amount of basing my scalp will make me go back. I'M DONE!

OMG. Are you me? This exact same thing happened to me when I texturized this weekend.

I also used Silk Elements and got burns all over my head AND ears! I stretched for 14 weeks.

The worst part is, I based the heck out of my scalp before I started. I covered every inch, including my ears and I still got burned!

I've been applying aloe vera gel on my scalp since it happened and my scabs are already healing up. Thankfully I didn't lose any hair or gain any bald spots.

I've NEVER been burned by SE before. Maybe Sally's changed the forumla once it started catching on or something :nono:

I have a feeling the burns come from stretching for so long. I know when I stretch longer than 13 weeks and I always use the same relaxer, it burns more, even with a based scalp. I think it's almost like having a "virgin" scalp the longer we stretch.
