sorry you going through that  I hope somebody is able to help you figure out what can make that better.

I went through this too and actually went bald in one spot :ohwell: Its sucked but the only thing I could do was to really take care of my hair get a trim and get a good vitamin regimine. I went back on the prenatals for another 6 months after and my hair really grew!

Yeah, this happened to me too. They say that it is especially bad if you have a son for some reason. This will pass. Are you still taking your prenaital vitamins.

Postpartum sheeding results from the excessive load of hormones in your body after birth. While you body had 9ish months to develop and adjust to the hormone load, after birth, the readjustment is difficult- minute you're pregnant; the next, you're not.

It's hard because women's hair can grow and be so beautiful during pregnancy, and afterwards, it starts falling out making you feel as if you're going bald almost.

In a few months, your hormone levels will return to the non-pregnant levels, and your hair will be fine. No colsolation, but it''s what happens.

yep... i shed like CRAZY 3 months after having my son. i'm surprised i DIDN'T go bald in any spot. i was still taking my prenatals faithfully too, cuz i was breastfreeding.

all i can say is, this too shall pass... :runninghug:

I had handfulls of hair fall out after the birth of my son. I was in the shower washing my hair and I was just pulling hair, pulling hair, pulling hair-until I got so panicked, I stopped the shower, got out and showed my husband whose face and jaw DROPPED at the sight (and he never reacts to ANYTHING). It eventually stopped and I still had plenty of hair on my head but it was scary. I had stopped taking my pre-natals about a week before this and boom.

Now with my daughter I just went bald in the front, you know like a receeding hairline.

Get back on your prenatals (if you stopped) and it will subside and you will be back to normal soon. Don't worry.

Some people say it's just the hair that you would have normally shed had you not been pregnant. So look at it as "excess hair" your body doesn't need anymore.

I had the same problem :perplexed - I found this possible solution. I have not tried it myself but Aminexil sounds promising. If it had been around when I had my child, I would have tried it because I was so upset with the thinning of my hair. I know it was extra thick because of the pregnancy, but geeze I lost all that I gained and more after I had the baby. I had a boy, and major shedding. It's worth a look... I would google post partum shedding to see if there are any other suggestions out there.

yes my son is currently 11 months, personally i dont think much can help but you can try garlic and oil mix on scalp. for me its going for 6 months, i think mine went on that long as my son was exclusively breastfed for 6.5 month so the hormones level did not go down completely.
i really saw profound improvement by the time he was 8 month. just follow your regular regimen of protein and moisture balance it will eventually stop. I never went bald in any spot my hair is gone back to its thick fullness, but i did lost some length probably because i had detangling issue.
Also my hair grew a lot in pregnancy so i figure it just went back to old length, like temporary growth some what.
best of luck, i literally had to ignore it, its difficult but it will stop, i also had to reduce washing to once a week to much manipulation and all.

I thought you might find this piece of info helpful....basically they are saying your hair doesnt shed the normal amount during pregnancy so the excessive shedding postpartum is making up for it.

"Post partum hair loss is a fact of life, resulting from the hormonal changes that occur in this time. The high estrogen levels of pregnancy prevent the majority of normal daily hair loss (about 100 hairs/day). After birth, these levels drop, and those hairs are lost. It can take from 4-20 weeks for this process to even start to be noticeable, and it can last for several months. The good news is, that the hair is lost because it is pushed out by the new hair growing in the same spot (sort of like teeth). So eventually those hairs are all replaced."

Hi! I am sorry you are going thru this! I hope I can give you some hope. I too gave birth almost 3 months ago, and when I first got pregnant haters (in my case) were thrilled to tell me all about how my hair would get longer and fall out soooo...I am not sure in my case if it is sheer will- power, or something I am doing that my hair has not fallen out at all. :perplexed In fact it's prettier than ever with the help of LHCF.

Let's see (I'm thinking aloud)... B4 getting pregnant I took prenatals and made lots of shakes with flax oil, wheatgerm oil etc, plus took the dreaded fish oil. During pregnancy (about 3rd or 4th month?) to my shock, being the nutrition queen, I developed an absolute AVERSION to vitamins and oils. So I followed my instinct and stopped taking them. I mean, everyone told me I should, but my aversion was THAT strong. I just hoped and prayed that the extra special prep I did for a year b4 attempting to get pregnant made my body healthy enough to give my baby everything necessary. Anyhoo, my hair grew at its regular rate during pregnancy, but shed very little.

After pregnancy I began taking again my all time favorite supplement, Source of Life, which has always given me FAST growth. After Keclee's heads up on the Seven Wonders Cocktail, I developed my own versions, the most recent including 2 0z carrot juice (giving even faster growth) and of course my oils. I have no shedding. My hair is very thick and healthy looking.

Well I mentioned all that just to give you the whole picture, but I guess my final advice would be carrot juice (thanks to Isis), and if you like, the Source of Life Energy Liquid (I buy mine at the VitaminShoppe). I hope that helps. :yep:

Thanks ladies for all the support and advise. I guess i have to wait it out. Like you all said, its worse with a boy bc my first was a girl and I had shedding that lasted for about 3 months but never this bad. I have continued to take the prenatals bc im still breastfeeding ( I read that also makes it shed more). Hopefully, it will subside soon and go back to normal.

I'm going through postpartum shedding right now. The shedding is at its worst in my hairline. I have two triangled shaped thin spots that have opened up on each side of my hairline over my eyes. The one on the right side is much worse than the left. I'm losing a lot of hair when I shampoo and condition it too.

I just take deep breaths and deal with the shedding as best as I can. I know it won't last forever and things will return to normal.

I , too , am going through post partum hair loss. Don't worry it will stop in due time. Right now I am 2 months post. I loste tons of hair per day, but I sometimes take a look at them to make sure it is shedding and not breakage. Just be patient it will pass.

OP, how many months post partum are you? I'm 4, and I'm getting a little nervous.

im 3 months post. With dd it started about the same time and lasted probably til she was 6months, but it wasnt as bad as it is this time around. Dont get too nervous, your 4 months post and it hasnt happened that's good my dr told me not all women experience this...most but not all...maybe your one of the lucky ones

If it makes you feel better my hair fell completely out in the middel when I was pregnant with my son, That's why I BC to 1-inch.

I just went through it and I went through it last year. I just let it run it's course. My temple came out a month before my perm and the day after I got my perm I could see the little hairs coming in. A month later they look like straight baby hair.I have like an inch of it. Don't worry it will grow back. Mine is thinner than it was and the pics in my avatar and siggy are what my hair look like after the shedding. It has pretty much stopped now.

My doctor told me to keep taking my prenatal vitamins. I was also taking the calcium supplement Viactive(sp?) they are little chocolates. My son is 5 months and I am still using both.

wanted to add that my PP shedding only lasted 1 month... so yes i was freaked out because i was losing TONS of hair every day. also i was exclusively breastfeeding my son on demand while taking prenatals... so i guess it just varies from person to person. :perplexed

I take that back...My edges (are) much thinner. They've always been thin, but I just noticed it and they had receded. I noticed that the edges are growing back, but my nape and the areas around my ears are breaking.

Everyone I'm so sorry to hear about your losses, but we've all gained (our children).
