For the past month I've been working hard trying to figure out what my natural hair type is (althought I relaxed at 11 I don't really remember too much about it). According to my mother, long time friends and my very few memories we've "determined that it was curly. So if that is the case then why does my hair grow out like this? I've read threads on scab hair and I think this may be it (they said that the hair usually doesn't have a curl pattern). These shots were take from various spots aroud my head. My hair was washed a couple days ago and air dried. The hair feel sort of rought right now but I'm not sure if that is due to my protein overload. Please take a look and let me know what you ladies think. For some reason I couldn't post my pics in the post (I kept getting an error saying that the file is too big) I tried resizing it but it didn't work.

is that pics of your relaxer hair or part new growth, because what i see looks like part natural new growth to me, and it doesnt look dry at all. just sort of wavy right now due to the relaxed hair thats attached to it.

also depending on what hair type you have u probably wont see a definate curl pattern till month 3-4 . (for some type 3b-3c hair).

and remember your hair as a child isnt always going to be the same hair type youll have as an adult. it very well could just be natural hair type. a DC treatment and a good leave in may help with any roughness you may be seeing

No, it could actually just be the way your hair grows out-it actually looks very soft. I would say it takes at least 3+ inches to start seeing a definite wave pattern. Mine didn't appear into 7-8 months in my transition, specifically in the front where the pattern is more wavy than curly. Then again, I expected to have beautiful coily naps that looked like it did when I was younger . Turns out that it can barely puff for anything unless I don't use ANY products-my mom didn't know a thing about defining curls. :drunk:

The pics are part new growth and part relaxed. Do you mean until month 3-4 after I BC or 3-4 months worth of new growth? I am asking right now because I am 18 weeks post. I'm a bit worried because all of the posts on scab hair said that people had to eventually cut them off. It just seems like that a little bit of new growh for 4 months so I would be really dissapointed if I had to cut it off all around. BTW thanks for your reply and I just LOVE your hair.

3-4 months of growth depending on your hair type ( longer for looser hair types). im mostly 3c some 3b and i didnt even see ANY newgrowth at all till month number three, it isnt because there wasnt any, its because my hair needs about an inch and a half to form part of the my curl. so it that long before i noticed any real new growth. the rest of my new growth looked just like my relaxed hair.

so if that pic is at 18 weeks post its showing signs that it may be around the 3c or 3c/4a hair type. though you wont know for sure till your 100% natural.

Hhg! and good luck with your transition!
