4A/B NATURALS THAT WEAR THEIR HAIR STRAIGHT 90% OF THE TIME

If I wore my hair straight 90% of the time as a natural I wouldn't want to get a relaxer. That would take me back to where I started. I'm trying to grow my hair as natural and healthy as possible to avoid any breakage or damage that would be caused using harsh chemicals on the hair...

SO SO CHIC AND PINKSKATES....WHERE ARE U??????:lachen:

Hi, sorry I'm on the late train, had a busy work week and am just now seeing this thread. My hair regimen is in my fotki. I wear my hair straight most of the time by pressing it with my old school hot comb and my beloved Aveda products.

DivaStyle, Qetesh, and jwhitley6 wears their hair straight most of the time too but I do not think they have a hair album (and I think they also have a mixture of type 3 strands too)...you may want to do a search on their posts about heat or straightening natural hair...

Here is a list of 4a/b natural ladies who wear their hair straight most of the time who do have albums:
unlvgirl
WhipEffectz1
pet

ladies who are not 4a/b that straighten most of the time:
NuMe2004
Kha
Chocokitty

So you may have to do your own research if these members do not see your thread. ;)

I ain't got no darn type 3 strands! :nono: Just a head full of nappy goodness... I might have to start a Fotki to set folks straight. 6 month Fotki challenge anyone.:lachen:

Ok, I have kind of a dumb question:ohwell:. If you are natural, but wear your hair straight 90% of the time, why not just get a relaxer? I mean you could do it 4 times a year, and get straight hair, w/out reversion, or having to use the flat iron or hot comb all the time.

I got a relaxer once and most of my hair broke off. that was 2001. I transitioned back to 100% natural in 8 months...never again! Besides, I like be able to use texture in my styles: I can press asian girl straight or rock a "Diana Ross", my hair is never limp, I can rock a cute braid out, wash-n-(almost) go, and I just like playing in my kinks. Relaxers aren't for everyone.

ditto. Plus I like the poofiness! Last time i had a relaxer was in 9th grade. Im 23 now. I cant imagine my head wo kinks, they are something i have grown to love.

I am sooo glad that i fount this thread! I woke up today with one thing on my mind: go to CVS and perm this sucker! But instead I'm sitting on the floor while my mom presses my hair with an electric hot comb. I don't think I will perm it but I will definately press it from time to time. I have to get over my fear of heat...

I'm natural and used to wear my hair straight 100% of the time. This has caused me to go on my own personal "no heat for 6 months challenge". When my hair is straight the damage isn't noticeable, but the difference between my new growth and the heat damaged hair was enough for me. I have an album, just go to my profile. But this was my regimen:

Wash once a week with DevaCare No-Poo or Tresemme Deep Cleansing Shampoo (I would dc and baggy the night before)

Condition with anything that gave me good slip, usually cheap or Deep Brilliance Reconstruct, Rinse

Blow Dry with comb attachment, then flat iron with HAI Flat Iron. I used to have a Solia, didn't like that it didn't have that protective lip around the plate, I would always burn my scalp. My dream flat iron is the GHD, I used it at my job...but just can't pay $195, plus discount.

On salon days, the only difference is she would wash and condition with her products and then blow dry with paddle brush and use a CHI or marcel iron.

wow aja..ur hair is so thick and shiny!!!!

OK here goes my regimen. All the OG Divas please feel free to critique me, I'd love that:-D...

Straight week

-I wash with Pantene R&N Shampoo
-I condition for an hour with half Pantene R&N Mask and half EVOO. *I recently tried Coconut Milk last week, it's awesome too*
-I then wash it out and carefully comb my hair out into about 6 sections and clip. I keep my hair very wet when I do this
-Before blowdrying each section, I put in some Granier Fructis Sleek and Shine.
-As I blow dry I pull the section straight like Pink Roller Skates Does (I love her!)
-Then I take a roller brush and blow out the roots. This gets my hair super straight at the roots which is half the battle. I have to be carefull at this step and finger detangle so I won't pull out any hair.

-The easy part is flat ironing! I use an Ion ceramic from Sallys.

Poofy Week. (I need help with what to do on this week for moisture and flyaway control)

-Basically wet it every morning with conditioner. I use Garnier Leave in.
-I mix up Live and some sort of Yellow Clear gel (that you can get at Walmart) up and put that in my hair to smooth it down. I tie it down, bun it up and go.
-For cute looks I have a massive scarf collection and I'm just starting to use headbands.

thanks msfadu!!!you have got some gorgeous hair:):):):)

I like this thread. When I get to a good enough length ex: somewhere bet midback and WL, I am going to wear my hair straight 90% of the time too.

Naturals who already do this- please post those regimens up! :yep:

I actually prefer airdrying. As far as using twists and flexirods, I think that would
be okay even great as a non manipulation style...actually I've been wanting to get back to the flexirods as I just use my Hotsticks without the heat. I might do it this weekend (or earlier) and take pics for you to see. I'm not using heat right now and don't intend on until in a couple months.

Cross-wraps can be achieved by combing your hair to the back, making a part down the middle into two sides, and pinning each side on top of your head so that they cross one another. hth!
hey whips............still waiting on the pics:ohwell:

Really? When I saw a picture of your hair in its natural state about a year ago or maybe in the LHCF galleries or something, and it looked 3b/c to me because it didn't shrink as much as mine...

Maybe I'm not really a 4a/b or something... see, my hair is super super tightly coiled, and I always compare my coil pattern to others when judging someone's hair texture. Sorry. :Blush2:

No cause a chemical is still a chemical and its better cause your hair is thicker and still healthy. Your hair can break very easy if you keep it natural if your hair is course.... once a week heat is fine with proper conditioning!!!!
