So far so good for me. I texlaxed a week or so ago and used Lye for the first time. Its going well! Usually my hair would feel dry for no reason by now with the No Lye that I was using before. I can say it appears to be true that Lye "does" help rettain moisture better than No Lye. I'm keepin it! LOL Don't know how far I am from APL though, i just pray to get there by December.

I'm doing well...no major setbacks or anything. i think i might take a pic of my wet hair when i shower tonight and see how much longer i have to go. its weird cuz from the side i def look APL and if i bring my hair to the front stretched i reach APL but when i take a pic from the back it still looks like i have another 1 1/2 - 2 inches to go :wallbash: :ohwell:

I understand EXACTLY what you're saying. Here's my update pic (4 weeks post relaxer).Last week I decided to cut about 1.5 inches off. They weren't split....just:ohwell: My hair looks much better and I still think I can make APL by the end of the year. My hair grows uneven and I wear it up or rollerset so that its not noticeable. I've given up trying to determine how far away I am:rolleyes:

I know Bella, I'm having that too. I really think it's my hair cycle though, and there's not too much I can do about that but keep an eye on it. I tend to shed more in the summer and hold on to a lot of hair in the winter. I'm gonna try the Alter Ego treatment in a couple of weeks if I don't see a change. Other than that, my hair looks and feels really great and doesn't appear to be thinning. If you are thinning you might want to try a garlic or protein treatment.

Thank Lavendar for the tip... I plan on doing a protein treatment over the weekend.

I had to comb my hair out (naps naps naps!) and moisturize and put some castor oil on each section. I think I hope I pray I have good growth when I relax, because just combing it out I think I am doing pretty good. Leaving it alone is the best thing I can do for it.

I'm thinking of getting tree braids next month.

I am doing ok... My sides are at least touching my collar bone on one side... I think I will get a corrective relaxer on the other side... it looks more like text lax and it is not growing at all... I hope it will work... I will let you know in about 2 weeks:spinning::yep:

I should have an update picture by tomorrow. Hair is coming along but I'm wondering if I will make it by Dec 31.

You can do it!! :yep: If you can retain all your length from now until the end of december you should be able to retain about 2 inches if your hair grows at a normal rate of 1/2 inch per month. You think you need more than that?

I am still continuing with this challenge I am getting closer and closer but in order to claim APL in December I need to thicken up my hair.

Alrighty, I am cheating with the progress pic comparison ! The first is November 2K6 and the second is August 2K7. Based on this (first time I've compared them) I'm happy with my results so far. Okay, um, some of my hair is APL and some isn't. I'd go ahead and say "I'm most definitely being successful with this challenge", but... Heck. That's when I'll run across a rancid product, my stylist go out "hater-style" when I go to relax sometime soon (I'm 8 weeks post and nine, maybe ten is as long as I can wait), stress, or anything. Ya'll think I'll be officially APL early? That I'm not sure of b/c I suck at picture taking and figuring out how much my hair grows a month :ohwell:.

Thanks LadyZ, Soonergirl & Healthytresses
It has been a long road getting from SL to APL, what helped me the most was bunning consistently and MANY THANKS TO THE LADIES HERE AT LHCF.

As other members on this board mention before that if you bun consistently you will see results. I also printed the article where a lady on LHCF stated she bunned 100% of the time to keep her hair off her shoulders. I read the article for inspiration every chance I got sometimes even during class.

So ladies if healthy long hair is what you want it will defitinetly take patience and dedication to get the desired outcome.

I've been working at this challenge but, I'm just not seeing the results that I think I should. I've been taking biotin 2500mcg and washing my hair/conditioning twice a week. I am doing protective styles but, its just not coming out the way I'd like.

Any advice you can give me would be golden. I know December isn't that far away and my hair is holding steady at one length. I can see the new growth but, whenever there is a relaxer done it just looks like it just makes it straighter but, I can't say if there is any major growth.

What else do you think I can do or has my hair just stopped growing. Please help keep me motivated.

Thanks,
Nella

Hi!!

Are you noticing any breakage? How often are you relaxing?

Just hang in there. Your hair is growing...it probably just seems like it is not growing because you are so aware of it. I bet if you left it alone until the end of December you would be quite suprised. :) Maybe you can start your own personal hide your hair challenge.

Pictures help too. If you took a length pic today and not again until Dec 31 I'm sure you would see your growth which would be more encouraging. I find that when im constantly checking my hair and stretching to check for length thats when it seems like it is not even moving, even though it really is. :) Hang in there chicka you will be to your goal in no time :)

ETA: On the upside tho, i just checked out your Fotki and your hair looks very healthy :yep:

As of my last relaxer in august, I offically have some hair reaching APL. I'm not satisfied yet, though, and probably won't claim it until I am noticeably FULL APL (still growing out these bloody layers!). Thus, I will continue on this challenge through December. I am very happy with my progress in health and length...what do you ladies think?

I haven't combed my hair in 2 weeks...
it was kind of accidental since I'm in the middle of moving
but anyway... because I am transitioning
... i am experiencing shrinkage...
so I'm not able to see my progress without using a comb...
i think this is a good way to hide my hair from myself
so that when I do detangle i can appreciate the progress...
a lot of BSL+ members swear by the NO COMB METHOD...
so I think I'm going to try to go as long as I can without
using a comb... just keeping ya'll updated ;o)

Please be sure to add me to your list. I have tried to stay on the APL challenges when they come up. Here is my entry with a pic of my current length in my Progress 2006-2007 album

Thanks,

Andrea
