I am starting my C&G regimen again. So I decided to do an intensive protein fix before I put my braids in. I tried Aphogee Damage Treatment for the first time last night. ...I think I used it wrong.:perplexed

I did a pre poo with Oscar Blandi Exfoliating Treatment mixed with some Olive Oil and Aveda Sap Moss.

Then I pooed with Aveda Shampure.

Then I used 3 capfuls of Aphogee....I think that is where I made the mistake...I probably used too much.

It was dripping down my face and neck and everything!:nono: Some even got in my eye! AND THAT STUFF SMELLS!!

I went under my new dryer (yes! I got it!) and waited for it to harden.

Ok here is the worse part:

When I washed this stink smelling stuff out, I didn't notice any tangles. My hair felt tough to touch though.

I used my Aveda Shampure Conditioner.

Then I deep conditioned with Mastercuts C Pak and Nexxus Ensure mixed together. It felt great on my hair!

After washing it out, my hair felt tangled and hard to comb! This is the most hair I lost in one wash since February! I blame the Aphogee.

I couldn't even do a rollerset because the fine tooth comb was ripping my hair!

In the end, I re wet my hair and put in some more moisturizing deep conditioner. This time I used The Body Shop Poppy Seed Mask mixed with Mastercuts C pak.

I kept it in overnight AND STILL HAVE IT IN AT WORK NOW!:ohwell: (my hair is pulled back in a wet deep conditioned bun)...I am scared to wash it out!

Damn...

awww! i hope everything works out ok. that stuff is too strong for my hair. i like to use duo tex for my protien. it smells good, well to me it does, and a huge bottle is cheap. let us know how it turns out

FlawedBeauty!! This stuff scared the crap out of me. I am sitting here at my desk rubbing my hair like you rub a baby!:lachen:

I just read in another thread that it might take 2-3 more mega moisturizing sessions to get my hair back on point and after that I shouldn't see any breakage.

...I sure hope so! When I dry my hair tonight, I will see the damage.:perplexed

Try doing an ACV Rinse. They tell you to use the Balancing Moisturizer after the hard treatment to restore the pH level in your hair (it doesn't moisturize much, but it does restore pH). ACV Rinse should help the pH levels and then deep condition again. Sry it turned out so bad for ya:sad:

Boss Lady, girl I feel your pain! It is a regular part of my regimen to use the Aphogee intensive protein treatment one week post-relaxer. But now that I am approaching another relaxer, I am rethinking it and may use something with less strength, such as Emergencee.

Stay on top of your DCing and daily moisturizing, and your hair will bounce back.

I have given up on this product. It does well to give you that dose of protein - but at what cost? It is just too much for me. Everytime I use it, it takes 2 or 3 deep condition sessions to get my hair balanced again.

I hate it. Good for protein, you can give it that. But, it is just too much for my hair.

The Nexxus Ensure IS a PH balancer as well as a detangler.

...you gave me an idea. I will use this tonight with some EVOO and deep condition for 1 hour. Hopefully this helps.

'Fo Sho! I was hoping to go back to dookie cornrows this weekend (avatar) but I might have to postpone it until my hair recovers its moisture.:yep:

..for real. I like a challenge but this stuff won hands down. Next time I use it I am caking it with something. ...Possible EVOO or Honey.

You've used too many products. I have a tutorial in my blog on the right way to use it. You MUST buy the Aphogee products as a supplement. If you don't you're asking for trouble. Try deep conditioning with only a moisturizing DC, mix some honey and olive oil with it. \/\/\/ click link

Alsom I would buy an intensive daily moisturizer like Qhemet Amla and Olive Heavy Cream, Elasta QP mango butter, or whatever. Baggy regularly to bring up the moisture. Next time, use a small shot of protein, like Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer. It makes your hair just as strong and can be used daily.

I really don't think you need heavy protein if you're doing braids. If its not broke (or broken off), don't fix it.

I have heard of some ladies mixing it with conditioner and/or not letting it get hard by sitting under the dryer with a plastic cap.

I agree with this. You don't want your hair to be too dry.

I do a light and moisturizing protein like Aphogee's Keratin Conditioner before braids and that seems to work fine for me.

Yeah, that stuff's a little rough on hair. I prefer frequent small doses of light protein over large doses of the hard stuff.

eesh!!! good luck. i tried one of those things once and my hair felt like straw!!! i started to panic and everything. it felt like one huge brillo pad as i was rinsin and i was afraid to try and separate it because it felt like it would just rip off in one clump. im thinkin all that protien shocked the sh*t outta my fine strands. never again!!!

Bosslady1,

I use aphogee and love it. I don't use all of the products you use at time same time as the aphogee. Do you think maybe you used too many products at one time. Because aphogee is so intense you might have to use it by it self. I use a prepoo, shampoo, aphogee, and then a conditioner (I wash between products). I then cover my hair with a baggie and sleep on it. In the morning I use a leave-in conditioner. I hope you try Alphogee again. It is a wonderful product. I to am using the C&G Method so I wish you the best of luck with both.:drunk:

yeah that stuff tore my hair up!!! that was before lhcf and i didnt know how to use it correctly and didnt really have a GOOD understanding of what proteins really are and what they do. :nono:

This was my first thought too. When I first started out, I used Aphogee once a week for 6 weeks consecutively and never experienced the tangles or dryness you described. I really think you had some reaction with all the different products you used. I just clarify with one poo, Aphogee, let harden for 1 hour, then rinse thoroughly, and DC with a moisturizing conditioner mixed with honey and coconut oil. That's it. A whole bunch of different products with Aphogee is a mess in the making. Just my 2 cents!:look:

How much aphogee are you supposed to use? I used a whole bottle on saturday. Am I a fool or what?!

:drunk: Girl, you are not a fool. :spinning: This made me giggle.

But, seriously are you talking about the little bottle? If so, I can use that entire bottle for one treatment, maybe have a little bit left over. If I mix it I can get 2 treatments out of it.

I agree. I just used this for the 1st time yesterday (I had a packet). I washed with CON green label, rinsed, applied Aphogee, sat under the dryer to harden, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed. I then applied Silk Elements Megasilk con which I left on for about 3-5 minutes and then applied my con mix of Suave milk and honey, hello hydration, Nacidit avocado, honey, and olive oil. My hair came out soft yet strong. I applied my leave-ins and combed my hair with a fine tooth comb (I was doing braids for a braidout). Barely any hair came out in the comb.

I agree with everything written in black.
I learned MY lesson.

TOTALLY agree with the bolded!:yep: Surely learned my lesson!:ohwell:

Thank you Mama! Always so helpful! Just love you!

Your steps sound simple and sweet. I will try it again with less products and less steps.

Possibly next year.:perplexed

I will get that outcome...one day.:look:

LOL!

I've been thinking. I used this just being about 2 weeks post relaxer so I think that helped me because my hair is still very straight. Now I remember back in the day I tried using Penetrait before a relaxer and man my hair was hard! Do you have a lot of newgrowth which may have caused it to be more difficult to manage afterwards? I'm not sure that this is a factor, just thinking out loud.

Hey Bosslady-:nono: I'm sorry that happened. I could feel my scalp cringing when you described it. Did you mention a fine tooth comb too:nono:-ouch!

We must have been thinking alike because I did an aphoghee treatment last night as well. I guess the difference is I already have my braids in:spinning: and I only used the 2 minute reconstructor. I usually judge how my hair has turned out by the loose hair at my nape. So far, everything feels wonderful. I followed up with a light spritz of the keratin tea reconstructor and aphoghee leave in. If you decide to try aphoghee again in the future, after your hair forgives you:yep: try a lighter one.

Someone had bumped up a thread clarifying what the heavies, middies and lighweight proteins were so I pulled the 2 minute out of the warehouse. I'd recommend that one on your next venture into proteining. BTW, I'm with you on shoring up your hair before braiding. I just do well spaced out lights and middies rather than going hardcore. Let us know how it turns out.

I think you may have done too much to your hair. On "protein day" i dont prepoo or do anything extra... in fact i use a clarifying for my first poo, moisture second, then do the aphogee, rinse and use an instant moisturizing conditioner for like 5-10 mins, use my leave in and rollerset...

The key is the moisturizing DETANGLING conditioner after i rinse the treatment. This stuff SAVED my hair plenty of times... and when im consistent (every 6 weeks) my hair retains lots of length and is less prone to breakage...
