Here are the only comparison pics I have.... My one year anniversary was July 26.... The photos of the Big Chop is probably what: 2 inches maybe? In the anniversary pics, my hair is stretched out from when I had it up in a ponytail and where you see me pulling it...also, hopefully I'm not foolin' myself and my edges have grown in.... Also, I did not use any direct heat (other than bonnet dryer occasionally for deep conditioning)....

Be encouraged!

i'm not one year yet, but what type of products are you using and what is your regmine? know that your hair is growing so maybe it might be something about retaining length. I know I have a problem with wearing synthetic hair. It cuts into my natural hair.

Some people like myself average about 4" per year - maybe you average the same and with a little trim, the result is 3.5". It sucks but hey, what can you do. I did a BC with less than 1/2" of hair and now, it has been almost 6 months post and I barely have 2". Don't get discouraged - our hair is growing just not as fast as the lucky fast growing heads:grin:.

August 6th was my 1st anniversary. I am currently in braids done by yours truly and I am playing in them. It lead me to wondering about my hair growth over this past year after doing a BC with less that 1/2 inch of hair to start. I have nice growth so I'm not complaining however, I thought that my hair would be longer than it is.

I just wanted to ask the other ladies how long is you natural hair? Strictly my feel, I am thinking my hair is about 3 1/2 inches all around. I know that hair growth is different for everyone; however on average one's hair grows about 1/2 a month, right?

When my hair was relaxed, I prided myself on my fast growing hair. I've taken into consideration my shrinkage, but right now my hair is stretched in braids and my hair is only at 3 1/2 inches.

What gives.

I'll be a year natural at the end of September and my hair is to my lip in the front and past my shoulder in the back. The sides are just past my chin. IDK how much that is inch wise. I had about 2 inches after BCing. And I've had 1 trim in the past year.

Great pictures! Nice progess. I wish I knew how to post pictures. I'm too lazy to figure it out. I'm sure it's easy.
:yep:
I think my front extends to the top bridge of my nose. Does that make sense:spinning:

Wow! Great job. I love your natural hair

I BC'd down to an inch an a half on July 1, 2006 so I'm a little past a year. My hair is now about 7 inches all over, and I've trimmed once, about half an inch to an inch.

I BC'ed a month ago and I believe that my hair has grown a little more than a 1/2 inch since then. My back hair that barely touched mid neck is now at the bottom. My front hair barely down my forehead is now past my eyebrows and my sides were at that middle of my ear are now grazing the bottom. However, I have put my hair in braids and and will see how much growth I get from them. I believe that everyone's hair grows at different pace, so just enjoy your hair and continue on your growth journey

I big chopped December 2005 to just an inch, and I'm now neck length, but only 7 inches in the top. The crown grows slower and I had layers cut in earlier in the year.

I've found protective styles are best for growing out natural hair. Just be patient, the length will come.

I used to only get about 3 or less inches a year. Or so it felt. My first year natural my hair just didn't grow. Now, I get alot more. I straightened my hair in march, and my bangs were about cheek length, and now five or so months later they're at least chin length and a little longer. I have alont of layers and in feb I was at shoulder length, no longer, and now at full shoulder length, about an inch and a half from apl, so I think it takes time for it to grow, but it is. I think the way I take care of my hair has changed and the amonut of care and time I put into it this year has really changed, so I'm reaping those benefits now.

I think my hair is currently about 5 or 6 inches, I'm not sure. I haven't straightened at all since chopping. I'm trying to wait until the weather cools down so I can get it blown out and trimmed.

I think everyone's hair grows at different rates. I know for me, the front of my hair grows at a snail's pace but the back grows rapidly. I just reached 1 year last Friday and you can see my pics in my fotki (pw in profile). Also the avatar is a 1 year pic as well.

Sometimes, it's hard to gauge the growth until it is straightened. I thought my hair was much shorter until I had it straightened! Shrinkage is no joke with me:lachen:

I BC down to 1/4 of an inch. My hair was 6 inches in the back and 5.5 on the sides and 5 inches in the front after a year. It is now getting closer to 8 inches in the back. I haven't measured in a month. hair grows 1/4 of an inch to 1/2 of an inch when your healthy-- eating the right things ---drinking water, getting enough rest and exercising. It might even grow faster but I doubt it I think you have to add some things to make it grow faster then that. My hair really takes off when I do all those things but I don't. I can't take vitamins everyday because I hate to do the same thing everyday even when I have to so I have trouble in that area. I think my hair grew as long as it did because I condition washed it every day. I use to wash my hair once every two weeks and added no moisturizers at all. None. My hair loves water, loves it ---its like a drug to me I just have to have it and it keeps just growing along. Now I have had this hair for 42 years and now its really growing and I contrbute all of this growth to water everyday.

I'm just into my third year of being natural but I have pretty good documentation of my growth in my Fotki. I think I had about 6-8 inches by year one.

My 1 year anniversary was August 5th. I probably had an inch of hair when I bc'd and now I have 7.5 to 8 inches. I've trimmed twice, but only like a 1/4 inch. I have right around average growth.

Thanks ladies for all your replies. To be positive, maybe I don't know what an inch is!:lachen:
No really, my questimates may be way off. I am not gonna watch the pot boil and just love my hair. I know my hair is growing.

Thanks again
