I often see females.. celeb or non celeb and if their hair is mbl or longer I think they have it made. I know looks are not everything but for those of you that have this length of hair; when you step out the door is everyone at your becking call and treating you better because your hair is so long? If it's not any different then I am fine staying at brastrap length besides it's the inner person that matters the most. (Please don't think I am crazy ladies)

Your not crazy kgard7777, the reason you see "celebs" being pampered and highly regarded is generally not because of their hair, but because of their status in society. Their careers depend on some type of publicity, just because you and I aren't in that profession doesn't mean we can't or don't get paid attention for our beauty (this meaning us as a whole person and not just our hair). I know it seems that those ladies have it made but think about it, they have to put up with criticism just as much as they take compliments, they may also have the extra ends to have people consult them about how they look(what to wear, what hair care products are "in") blah blah blah... Some even have nutrition consultants and trainers so having gorgeous hair and a great body can be achieved a little easier. But I think it feels great being able to find out what works for me on my own, I love loving my hair, and I love loving myself so in showing this confidence I get alot of “celeb” status attention without the cameras and limos and such :) So remember, if your not feeling your worth, (which is far passed what any amount of money can provide for you) then just think this way,,, at least when you have a bad hair day, it doesn't end up in some high end Magazines "Best or Worse" hair day section :)

Oh and sometimes those ladies sport a long weave one day and a short bob the next and the crowd still goes wild! Go Figure?:spinning:

I think that thats silly to think, but I'm trying to see your side.
Do you mean longer hair= more put together/having money to take care of it?

:perplexed Having "made it" as described in your post, sounds kind of psychological to me, "better life" too. What is better life?

But I have to agree that black people with long hair do get more attention, I won't go so far to say they are treated better, but I wouldn't doubt it. If someone thinks because of they have long hair that they have made it, than maybe those are the people that treat them better. Celebs get treated special regardless of hair length.

People rarely see my hair down so they don't even know how long it is. So there is no difference from my life and a short haired person's life :)

I don't have a lot of money and I don't have a personal trainer or hair consultant. I don't even go to a hair salon. There are plenty of inexpensive ways to have long hair and a trim body! :yep:

I do spend money on food, though, because I love healthy, organic food. Mainly vegetarian.

It's only on those rare occasions when my hair is down that I get extra attention from random males :look:

Even if people don't see your hair down, don't you think they know it's very very long. By the size of your bun and french roll.:yep:

Maybe they do LOL I never thought about that. I just thought this type of hair in general makes a huge bun even if it's not that long

Well, I know you have the men on lockdown and not just because of your long hair...they're watching you like this :spinning:

Good looking people are generally treated better by others. A fit body, smooth, even skin, and long, full hair are just a few of the characteristics associated with being attractive.

However, good looks don't pay the bills, get the job done at work, raise the kids, keep your partner happy, fix your car, stop global warming, end the war in Iraq, etc., etc., etc.

So to answer your question, I don't think having long hair makes my life - or anyone else's - better. ;)

I don't think life would be any better. I had long hair when I was younger, and I was awkward, looked over, and to me unattractive, but when I matured I cut off my hair, and really I blossomed. Adn then I got more attention, but not b/c of my hair, but b/c I was open and confident. I see women with their hair buzzed within a ccentimeter of their scalp who are getting waaaaaayyyy more attention and stares(in the good way) then me, but I think it's all in how you carry yourself. If you carry yourself like I deserve to be treated well, and I take of myself to prove that, then you will earn attention, and you'll give yourself a better life.

OT: Flowerhair, bun or not, everybody can see that hair from a mail away :yep:

 I never think about it.

My boss was asking me about the preacher kissing me yesturday at lunch. I'm like, how did you know about that.:perplexed He's so nosey.

Only Jesus makes your life better, and not necessarily easier, but better. And just because you attract more attention with longer hair does not mean it's always good. You can attract just as much negative and unwanted attention as well.

I don't think having long hair has made my life better (my choices in life have improved my lifestyle)...but b/c I wear my hair out everyday it does attract attention.

I get a lot of stares from both men and women. I also get lots of weird questions (from complete strangers) that I often refuse to answer. So that's not better in my opinion it's more annoying than anything.

I'm still trying to process your question. What leads you to ask this?

I get more attention with long hair than I did when it was shorter, but I don't know that I get treated any better.

I agree but imo it's all superficial. It's like where were you when my hair was shorter.

I love long hair on my and some people but I feel that I'm not my hair. I think some others are fierce with short....depends.

I think it's the way you carry yourself. I was thinking about this last week. I get more attention now then i did before because I'm at peace with myself and I'm always happy. I think people can sense that. I don't know if having longer hair = better life. The work field I'm in it doesn't matter how you look as long as you have the education.

My hair is shoulder length..hardly what this board calls long. I get attention regardless. I really believe it is your confidence level. Plus, with shoulder length hair, most folks call THAT long on the "outside" world.

Plus if you have a nice shape, pretty face...you get attention. That is just the way it is! Sad but True.

I haven't had weird questions about hair (yet), but considering the ish I'm asked about my line of work, I don't doubt it. That sounds like another thread unto itself.

I don't think that anyone is trying for long hair to change people's thoughts about them. I think it is soley a personal, self-esteem building choice. Just a personal goal, now ask about natural vs relaxed and that's when the people around you begin to look at you differently. lol!

Yep. As a long(er) hair member I can say this is true. My hair is 3" away from waist and it's usually in a bun (I'm Hiding my Hair 'til Christmas) so ppl don't notice how long my hair is.
When I do wear it down I get reactions but mostly because ppl are finally seeing it worn out instead of my bun.
I carry myself confidently though and I've received more mention / admiration on that then my hair.

I know that when my hair was natural and I had major shrinkage that I got a lot less attention from men then I did when I flat ironed it out and you could see that my hair was shoulder length. And shoulder length isn't even very long. I didn't particularly want the attention though, so I don't think that it made my life any better.

My hair was at MBL, but I cut it so now it's only slightly past bra strap length.
Obviously I can't deny that our preferences are products of our environment and of course we live in an environment that values certain attributes. However, IMO a pretty face will always get attention regardless of the hair length and a the same goes for condience. When my hair was MBL I didn't really notice any different behavior from ppl. I used to wear my hair in natural (unreaxed) double strand twists, I'd twist them in such a way they would flip out, in a funky controlled, but uncontrolled manner, they were about 2" above my shoulders. I loved the style and I got crazy attention from ppl, especially men. It's probably the confidence that did it. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED my twists.

I honestly can't say that the difference between mid back and bra strap garnered a great difference in perks, my SO loved it and I liked it, but otherwise it was business as usual. The only time it was of any real notice was when I went to the hair salon (the women gushed) or when I'd be around women, especially black women. Then it was a big deal, otherwise much ado about nothing.

With that said I think that MBL or any kind of swingy, shiny hair regardless of length does garner attention because those are all attributes that typically indicate fertility, good health and youth and therefore attract the eyes of men, and subsequently women.

My hair isn't really that long, but I do get treated much better when I wear my hair down rather than in a bun. It's fascinating, really. I get all kinds of "wows" and "whoas". It makes me think that people think that I'm not as pretty when I wear my hair up.

:yep: I cosign the up vs down. I knew this instinctively even as a kid. I was about 6 and I'd beg my mom not to stick all my hair under my hat, I'd pull out a strand or two even leave my short little afro puff out at the back because I felt non descript with a little strand of hair. That was way before I even cared about hair length, I just liked hair, period.

I don't know about life being better but I certainly get more attention when my hair is down and flowing. From everyone, men, women, children. People smile more, want to come up and talk to me, etc.

When I'm wearing a bun sometimes I feel invisble, but let that hair down? Then we're off to the races!

Hair is powerful.

I think beauty is valued esp. for women and can lead to favorable treatment - but IMO long hair is just one feature that could be considered beautiful.

Halle Berry is consider one of the most beautiful black actresses in hollywoood and she had SHORT hair for years. Right now, it just seems one sided because so many clebs have (or buys ) long hair.

But I think beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.

She is truly an aberration because I am one of many who considers her more beautiful with shorter hair. (I remember back in college everyone had to have a Halle Berry, T-Boz, or Toni Braxton haircut, and I had one, too!). Anyway, I guess she gave into the Hollywood standard of beauty and bought her some long hair. Oddly enough I don't consider her beautiful with that long hair. It also makes her look much older. :nono:

My hair is long but I wear it up 99% of the time. Having long hair hasn't made my life any better. When I do wear it down, which is rarely, I get unwanted attention from people I don't even want to be bothered with.

As I sat here tonight with some difficult matters to address, the only thing that brought peace and assurance was knowing ,that Jesus said "He will supply all my needs according to His riches in Glory"..no amount of long hair could have given me that kind of peace of mind. So no ...long hair could never make life appear easier to me. Attention and quality of life do not necessary go hand in hand.

Me love Jesus Christ
