Vanishing curls...anyone ever have this problem?

When I rollerset my hair, I use a leave-in (I used Fermodyl 619 the last 2 times) and water…nothing else. I sit under the dryer for about 20-30 minutes and then come out for about 30 minutes, and go back under, and do this for about 3 hours. I know…very time consuming…but I hate being under the dryer. Anyway, once I take the rollers out (my curls are very soft and bouncy), I wrap my hair using my Jilbere shower comb, and I comb the wrap out right away (same comb), and guess what…I have NO curls! Why does this keep happening? :wallbash:

At first I thought I might need to clarify. Did that, nothing changed. Then I thought it might be because my ends are a little jacked up. Not sure why that would affect my curls, but in this hair game, you never know. I usually use Salerm or Lacio Lacio before rollersets, but I haven’t used either of these since I started using Fermodyl, so I thought maybe that was the culprit.

Any ideas?

Hey....your hair isn't bumped AT ALL after roller-setting and wrapping? Or are you looking for CURL. When I want to have some curl after my rollersets, I either sleep in pin-curls or satin covered sponge rollers.

I'm looking for curl. I use the light blue/turquoise and yellow rollers so it will last thru the week. The curls are all there when I take the rollers out. If I finger comb the curls and try to make a style, that works...but if I try to wrap it, I'm done. The ends start looking dry, and it doesn't look like I sat under the dryer with rollers in my hair AT ALL. I may have slight curl pattern, but I can't actually leave the house looking the way I look. I usually end up pin curling it for a few hours or overnight and it's fine.

I can think of two things: either your set was not completely dry or you used too much product. If neither of these is the culprit then I'm lost.:ohwell: I know too much product can weigh hair down and sometimes prevent it from holding a curl. (I can't use SSF because even if I wash it out my hair is too limp and in need of protein.)Good luck

I beg your pardon for being slow but I don't follow. When my hair was relaxed, wrapping - if I understand the term correctly - gave me nothing but smooth straight hair with a slight curve.

So if you wrap your hair after rolling it, aren't you removing the curls by smoothing them out? Shouldn't you instead pin the curls up or sleep in rollers to keep the curls?

I have always understood that people wrap their hair to get a smooth look with a slight curve that frames the face. No?

I'm confused as well...that's why I asked:perplexed

If you want to keep your curls, you shouldn't wrap you hair. If I wrap my hair after rollersetting all the curls smooth out. You shouldn't be messing with the curls to much either. Just Separate (with fingers or a wide tooth comb) and go.
To make them last all you have to do is pin curl. That's it.

I totally agree w/ sweetcashew you shouldnt comb thru your hair if you want curls. Just pick them apart and try to pincurl them at night. I need a lot of practice w/ pincurling because I lose my curls the next day. Wrapping just gives a great smooth and straight look if thats what you are going for.

I guess I won't be wrapping it again, but when I get blowouts, they wrap my hair, and when I take the wrap down I still have curls. I don't even get the slight bend on the ends. It's just lifeless and dry looking, but with plenty of body. Maybe I just don't have that "touch". Okay, no more wrapping...that ends that.

I have the same problem. I have learned not to wrap because my hair is fine and don't hold a curl. When I want to wear my hair with body and a little curl I rollerset my hair in the biggest possible rollers and then finger curl. At night you can either do pin curls or re roll your hair. That is want I do or you can re roll your hair in the morning before getting in the shower. You should get a new set that way.

I understand what you're saying. I used to get this done to my hair years ago. I would alway tell my stylist that I wanted a rollerwrap. She would set my hair on rollers as usual, let the hair get 90% dry but definitely not completely dry. You don't want to unwrap a super damp curl but my hair was not bone dry. She would wrap it (completely and tight)and then put me back under the dryer to finish drying like 20 minutes. She would then undo my wrap and use a brush to flip ends, give me a little volume at the top. It would look really good after a fresh clip cause it would give the impression of lots of layers that i really didn't have. I ALWAYS had curls, not rollerset curls but lots of body curls (if there is such) and waaayyy more than a little wave. The ends would be flipped up and I could wear this style for a few days without re-rolling.
I moved to another city and asked a stylist to do this and she did it the way you did it and bam nothing, flat hair. No curl at all. I knew it wouldn't be right when she let my hair completely dry and didn't put me back under the dryer after she wrapped it. I believe this is a crucial step and the hair CANNOT be totally dry. I know this is long but I just want you to know that what you are talking about can be done. I have gotten that style lots of times. Keep at it! Good Luck!!:yep: HTH
