I'm Tired Of Senegalese Twists *suggestions Appreciated*

Hi all.

It has been a while since I posted a thread in this section. Feels kinda nice to come back to home base ...anyway, every other season I use Senegalese twists as my go to protective style. It's not even a PS anymore, tbh, it's just to get my hair out of the way (very thick, natural, 4c, BSL-ish strands). I started getting crochet twists to shorten the 8 hours process. Then I turned to wigs which are cool, but now I want a new style...maybe another wig is in order? Honestly, I considered wearing my hair out, but Iunno, I get tired of trying to keep it in order...

All suggestions appreciated.

No immediate style suggestions but encouragement to: ...just keep experimenting...... You will find another go-to for a while...and then you'll be on to another one.

Yeahhh it looks like it.
I'm not sure how they are done, I remember seeing them on IG a while ago and thinking they were so pretty !! Glad it's catching on. I wonder if they are heavy or feel soft ? Idk.. but it's a nice style.

I feel like I saw some crochet ones recently. Those are definitely faster to install. It used to take me 25 hrs to install individual twists so now I’m strictly crochet.
I experiment with different crochet looks when I’m bored w senegalese twists.

I think locs would suit me very well , but I love wearing my afro in the summer...so im holding off on that.

I did the Spring Twists on my hair which are similar to the passion twists. They’re just as pretty and I’ve seen the crochet versions on YouTube.

The twists posted upthread are spring twists. They are installed the same way but use different hair.

I don't know... I'm not sure, but I think it depends on what kind of hair you buy. Looking at them, sometimes they appear to be soft. Other times, depending on the kind of hair that was used, they can look hard. Maybe someone with more firsthand experience will chime in.

I understand. I know you mentioned that you wanted to wear your hair out but it's a lot of work to keep it from getting tangled once shrinkage sets in.

When I wore out styles like just an afro or twist out fro, afro puffs, etc. and wanted to get a few days out of the style, before bed I would just separate my hair into several sections and loosely twist the sections (or do it tight, depending on the look I was going for) and then tie a scarf over it. In the morning I would take the twists down to maintain texture, then freshen up and dress up the style as needed. (e.g. gel the front and back hairlines, tie the front with a scarf, etc.)

If I was wearing 2 afro puffs I would just twist the ends of each puff and then undo them in the morning. That was a quick way to maintain the style after a long day when I just want to go to sleep ASAP.

You can also do Bantu knots all over and then undo and separate them for a different look. I did that a lot with my hair before I started my second set of locks. Sometimes I would just wear the knots even though I think they look crazy on me. I would just tie a scarf around the front to make it look better.

One other tip I have for maintaining your loose natural (or even a wash and go) is to just separate your hair into several ponytails (I used to use anywhere from 4-6) and then band each ponytail at night and then tie it up with a scarf. In the morning I would just take all the bands and ponytails out and let the steam from the shower get the curls to fall back into place. Or I would just skip the steam and lightly spray my hair with a leave-in mix and that usually does the trick also.

As far as what type of hair to buy? I have no clue. Maybe the other ladies would be able to tell you. Or if you have watched some YouTube videos about it, maybe they mention what kind of hair they use in the tutorial.

If you are a part of any hairbraiding groups on FB they would be able to tell you, too.
