I don't like them but, folks that live in glass houses should not throw stones! I am working on my situation but it is still pretty jacked up so-I keep my mouth shut and will even after I get my own ends together.

You sound like me! I have my own issues to worry about so I cannot say anything to anyone!

But, I do prefer my ends trimmed when it is worn down.

I do not think a person should be scissor happy, though. Especially if you are wearing you hair is protective styles/braids most of the time. You just don't have to do trims that often.

looking at jacked up ends is very painful for me to see, though i never feel the need to say something because it isnt my place. But at the same token, i keep my hair just slightly uneven (thru mini-dustings). I am not a fan of perfectly chopped hair. I feel like a librarian when my hair is all even and boring.

I voted, "Yes... unkept ends are not cute!" concerning MY OWN ENDS. My ends are not damaged, but a bit see-though, which I don't like. Since they are usually "hidden," it's no big deal. So, I plan to wait until Christmastime, when I'll wear my hair out more, to get a good trim.:yep:

I would never give someone else unsolicited advice about their ends.:nono:

I hate that I be itching to say something but as of today my ends are jacked up. I washed my hair after coming out of braids and my hair was badly matted. so my ends are really really bad. Still I am not cutting them right now I am thinking about what I am going to do so I don't have to cut them until atleast a few more months - don't know yet wanted to just sit down and cry all my hard work down the drain all because I didnt' comb my hair after I took the braids out. I just washed it with protein :nono:at that three times. wash then condition with protien and then added more protein and then cond moisturizer my hair was done. :naughty: I dont' even want to see my hair for a few months. :ohwell::cry2::cry2:

See through or uneven ends don't really bug me on people with longer hair but it bothers me when I see people around the chin length to just slightly beyond shoulder length. Because usually it makes me feel like a really aggressive trim would result in hair that appears very well kept & healthy instead of sad scrugly:hair::pullhair: hair that looks like 'who dun it & why.':wallbash:

In my experience, people who don't have a real focus on haircare, don't usually realize they have damaged ends. Personally, I prefer consistent length and thickness for short or long hair. It just looks healthier in my opinion. But for some folks, length is length regardless of how straggly the ends are.:ohwell:

But no, it really wouldn't be my place to say unless they asked my opinion.

I agree, now that I know better, when I see someone w/jacked up ends, I just want to lend them a scissor. My hair isn't exactly like I would love it but I'm working on it. What kills me is when I see someone w/hair that's on point, if my hair is out, I feel like I should have worn a pony because it usually puts my to shame. But I'm working on it. Right now I'm in braids so give me a couple of months, I'll even up most of it and get it right.:look:

Hanging on this board makes one highly sensitive to anything hair.:yep: Personally, before I came to this board, I didnt pay attention to peoples ends and such. Now when I see someone with jacked up ends,I just assume they aren't in tune with their hair as we are. If its a friend, I direct them to LHCF, if not I just keep moving:)

I think anyone who would do that is just downright mean. There are people who don't have the luxury of worrying about their hair, they have to worry about feeding their family and other more important things. Besides they could be looking back at you thinking your hair is jacked. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I wouldn't say anything to that person because it is not my place.:nono:

Now if that person is a close friend and she ask my opinion then I would suggest that she do a lil trim or lite dust:yep:

ITA. Only family and VERY close friends.

I never realized how much I was from the school of nice ends until I got my raggedy ends chopped off. I was holding on to some uneven ends and even after they were gone i cried. Then I noticed how much heavier my hair was, thick from root to end and healthy.

I'll never go back to raggedy ends. As for other people's hair...To each her own.

My hair is layered so the longest layer ends are ok but the rest is jacked up. :lachen::lachen:However, Im not about to start cutting to make this mess look more like a mullet. :nono: But since I know this, I don't wear my hair down and it is always in a protective style.

If I saw someone else with messed up ends wearing their hair down I wouldnt say a thing it's not my place or business. Now, if they asked for advice...well thats another story. I would let them know you do have options and that if you choose to wear your hair down a light trim or dusting will make it look healthier. If they do not wish to trim or dust for whatever reason I would recommend protective styling. :yep:

I try to myob

I don't really spend that much time and focus on someone's outward appearance. Poor character is worse than poor hair care.

I personally have some jacked up ends so it would be out of line for me to talk about someone elses ends. I have been meaning to get it done, but twice at the salon they refused, because the stylist didnt want to spend all the time on my hair which takes alot of time to blow out to begin with.

but if i see someone with serious see thro ends i usually think they are not properlly doing something but thats thier issue, they may have hair that grows like mine, where the ends will look see thro for a while then it will catch up nicely with dusting.... or they may not have the money for a trim. ither way i would never tell someone they need a trim unless they asked me specificlly what options they had and that would be one.

I'm having the same problem. I usually dust them myself, and then go to the salon for an even trim, because I really don't like raggedy ends. (At least not on myself)

But I've been kind of stressed this summer, so I haven't looked at my ends at all since my layers have been cut (hey, it was a stressful last semster of college, too!!):look:

Well, what I saw of your hair, it was beautiful!!

Well...I have a problem with split ends...but only on my hair. I do notice other people's ends though...I am more alert. When I see a split hair..while I am not at home...I will try and remember where that hair is cut the split end when I get home. I look for them pretty much everyday. It's like a new hobby. I can't really see them in the back, so I will dust the back ends every now and then. I am also in the middle of transitioning...so the small dusting also eliminates permed ends...slowly but surely.

I would rather have shorter hair with healthy even ends than longer hair with icky-looking ends. I think it looks significantly better and the hair looks healthier and better cared for in general when all of it is in good health and good looks.

OT Sistaslick, have you ever modeled or though about it??? You have a really great face!! I can see you in Essence smiling seductively in a hair product ad:grin:!!

Yes I believe in keeping my ends neat and trimmed. But I would never tell someone that"...you need to get thet sh** cut off.." Wow, that would be so mean of me. For all I know, they might not have the money to go to a salon to get a hair trim; or they may be on medication, and the meds could be jacking up their hair health. You just never know. And It's not in my character to make another person feel bad about their appearance. But, If they were to ask my opinion, I would definitely tell them in a tactful manner, that it is time for a hair trim.:wink2:

I totally agree, point well stated!:clapping:

Out of habit if I am standing too close to someone I check their hair for split ends especially if they have long hair and I see how healthy it is. I would never say anything unless it was a friend and they asked my advice.

Thought i was getting called out:grin:

My ends are uneven but i dont have split ends...are my ends jacked up??

Ditto...but some people just don't get it. :ohwell:

It bothers me when people judge. If I don't know the situation then I keep my mouth shut. :-x

Now that doesnt mean Im not gonna come here and type about it later! :lachen:

But really, you never know what is going on with that girl to have her ends like that. She could have been stressed and losing patches that week--- when I was diagnosed with lupus I was losing patches not from the disease, but from stress from knowing I was sick! I didnt think it was fair that I would have to get a major haircut on top of having to take meds and deal with the weight gain that came from the meds. So I just waited. I waited until my hair was longer and trimmed it afterward, and lost the weight and got off the meds. I was in a rough patch and just needed to wait it out, thats all.

Some people just go through rough patches. If I see someone with raggedy ends or a dye job that should have been fixed, or even some bad braids that are well past due for a touch up.... I just think, maybe that person is going through a rough patch.

I only get the urge to trim when my hair is straight. I took about two inches off this month. My hair is still uneven looking (when straight). I took a good look at my ends and most didn't appear damaged, just uneven. I had asked for honest opinions on another board and they agreed a trim was needed. It's sucks because uneven hair can look as bad as damaged ends. But oh well, I'll get those inches back and a little more before the end of Aug.

I love purdy ends , but its not my place to be telling people if their ends are jacked up. All I can really do is worry about my own mane because their mane is their business.

I obsess over ends, that's why it never appeared to grow fast enough,I couldn't except the fact that hair grows uneven now I know and don't obsess so much, I wish I could do two trims a year, I wear curls a lot and still look at my ends

I'm the same way. I also took a few inches off recently (WL to BSL). When my ends are healthy, my hair is just so much better. I can flip it and whip it after flat ironing and my curly styles hold better.

Once I was in my friend's class and it was this Spanish brunette and her hair was like to her waist, when I say split ends galore, omg I have never saw that much damage in my life. She must flat iron her hair every day 10 times. My friend says she flips her hair all around like her hair is gorgeous and always playing in it. I guess it was length over health. She had so much breakage and frizziness. Made me appreciate my hair and want to go home and make sure everything was right with wrong. But I would never tell her that her hair was jacked, that's he business, I was hoping the crap popped off why she swinging it (evil laugh)

I do prefer blunt ends but wouldn't say anything to a person unless they ask for my opinion. In fact,I did a very good friend's hair this past Saturday and her hair is very damaged and her ends need to go. This is someone who used to say she didn't care about her hair but she has lately approached me about advice.

I googled fairytale ends and I have to say it's not my preference unless it's curly then you get these tendrils tapering at the end. I love love love thick blunt and U shaped cuts (I drool at Reniece's clients hair shape) and I've been slowly cutting away my V and the bone straight ends I have which look thinner compared to my textlaxed hair.
