This is a mini update on my edges which were destroyed due to braids and a faux loc installer who was high.. SMH. The pics are 30 days apart. Initially, I did not feel and pulling or anything tight when my braids were being installed. She actually had a very gentle hand and the braids were light, not heaving and pulling on my scalp. I have no idea why my edges reacted the way they did. This is one instance where I do not blame the braider. Now the locs, which I usually do myself, were done by a braider who kept taking brakes and going out to smoke. I did not know what she was doing at first and by the time I realized it, she was halfway through. It took her 8 hours to do what I was told would take only 4. They were okay but I like the ones that I do myself better. I had a significant amount of hair come out due to that install. I usually keep my locs in for 8-12 weeks but I took them out after 6 weeks. I installed boho locs, which are very lightweight and so unique and I have gotten great growth. I micro needled my edges and the crown of my head 4 weeks ago and use different oils to massage in daily. I am FINALLY seeing some progress. I plan on microneedling every 4 weeks. I usually sleep on a satin pillow case ( if anything).
Things that have helped:
Micro needling
I began putting JBCO on my hairline and styling my “baby hairs” at night then tying up my edges so they don’t rub against my pillowcase and exacerbate the thinning and I don’t have to use a bunch of edge control in the morning.
I use Kaleidoscope miracle drops in the morning after I wash my face so I don’t wash off the oil around my hairline
I do still use edge control but I wash it out of my hairline daily. I will either “melt” it away with warm water or I will wash and condition my hairline. I feel like the oils can penetrate my scalp better vs sitting on the edge control.
I deep condition my edges. Even though the rest of my hair is in faux locs, I still wash and deep condition my hairline.
I take my vitamins, I recently added liquid Vitamin D and liquid iron.
I wear my locs down more so I am not adding stress on my edges.
I know that some would say that I should stay out of PS’s but that is not going to happen. I WILL stop going to other people to do my PS because that seems to be when I get my a$$ in a slinger and my hair gets messed up, primarily my edges. Also, when I was wearing my hair out, my edges were only slightly better.
