I need some techniques. I read sistaslick's information and tried it last night and my hands kept cramping up. Am I doing something wrong?

i read sistaslick's article too and i just started doing them and I had the same problem as you my hands and my arms started to hurt. Hopefully sistaslick will come in and help us out.

Oh my. Yall hands are hurting?:lachen:

You can try easing up on the pressure you're applying to the skin and cutting down on the time you spend in each position. If 1 minute is causing your hands to hurt, cut it down to 20-30 seconds in each position and see if you can work up from there with time. I've been doing this for a couple of years so it's pretty cinchy to me, I didn't realize it might be a little too much for those just starting.

If my hand/arm started hurting, it would be session over and I'd finish up where I left off later. You don't have to do the entire thing in one sit down session--especially if its uncomfortable. Don't feel like you have to!

I know, right??! hahahaha Okay, thanks lady. I know I was pressing hard to make sure I was getting good circulation going. If I still "can't get right", what about one of those little small vibrating massagers? Can I hold that on my head in different spots and get the same results as a finger massage?

I was doing this also.

Sistaslick, how long did it take for you to see results from this ?

I love my octopus. I actually can continue getting ready in the morning or sip tea at night while my scalp is being massaged. *sigh*

Ooops I keep calling it that (because that's what it looks like) I actually have a Sqwiggler. It has 2 speeds. I love that thing.

ETA: I got it from unwind.com, but I would have sworn it was only $14.00.

And it doesn't pull your hair at all? My have to look into this one.

I gotta stay outta the hair boards!!! I'm on my way to being broke

Of course! As long as you are manipulating the scalp skin and increasing circulation to that area-- you're okay!

Locoa, I've been doing these massages since day one of my hair journey, so I really couldn't tell ya a specific "time". I just consider it part of the total care package. Keeping the skin loose and stimulated has been nothing but beneficial (and relaxing) for me and my hair-- so its just something I've always made sure to do. HTH.

Sareca, do the legs on your "octopus" vibrate or is it more of a broader, stroking kinda movement? This thing looks pretty interesting. My hubby loves making me do his scalp massages:look: Maybe this is something I can get him so that he can do them by himself :scratchch:lol:

I use the octopus looking massager too. My boyfriend loves it even more than I do. The legs vibrate and it feels pretty good. Here's a pic of what mine looks like:

I need to get on this octopus thingy coz it's pretty hard to get into my scalp with my NG.

Dont those side kiosks in the mall sell these things?
