Anybody know how this is done? I want a side part with swoop bang with the waves into a bun. I don't want crunchy finger waves though....a soft look. Anyone know how??? Thanks!

You're talking about soft waves. Usually the hair is roller set and then molded with a comb and clips into the waves. They don't use gel for it, hence the term "soft waves". HTH...

Thanks for the info but I have a question- how is it molded if gel isnt used. Ive always thought this style was Super cute but thought gel had to be used to creat the look.

So your saying roller set the hair like one normally would and then somehow use a comb and clips to make the wave patterns? And no holding gels are used?

They can be done with pin curls too...

You make like 3-5 rows of pin curls on each side of your head. Each row should have like two or three pin curls in it.
The first row, you wrap the pin curls to the right...

The second row you wrap to the left.

The third you wrap again to the right.... and so on and so forth.

Then in the morning you take them down and smooth them, (you can hold them in place with hair pins too) and spray them.

Thats how I do it anyway.

The actual waving is done on dry hair so you don't need gel. They only use gel for those hard crunchy fingerwaves that were out in the 90s (which were done on wet hair). If you comb the curls out a bit you can mold the hair into the wave shape. Then you use the long duck bill pins to hold it in place and spray it with spritz or some type of holding spray when you're done. I've seen it done before but it's hard to explain. I think you can use pincurls to acheive the same look too. I've only seen it done with the rollerset.

See I knew I wasn't the only one who knew how to do it! :lol:It can be done with pincurls too.

you can also mold with a setting lotion which is softer than gel , but gives some holding power it is also easy to comb out but still have the set of waves but that's a real basic beauty school move. they made us learn fingerwaves with setting lotion.

:lachen::lachen::lachen: I'd like to get some myself but IDK if it can be done on natural hair. I'll have to ask my stylist if he can do them.
