ladies when u thought it was no hope left for your hair but to cut it...what saved it ? Be it products etc....

A heavy protein treatment like aphogee or duo tex followed by a moisturizing one. After two of those, my hair was back to normal.

Weekly protein treatments using the aphogee followed by deep cond with a mix of Keraphix and Redken Heavy Cream. This literally saved my damaged hair and I did not have to do any cutting.

My Savour is the one and only "Proven Black Hair Growth" Ultra Black Hair Deep Conditioner, Lotion Creme Moisturizer, Dew Spray, & Ultra Black Hair Growth II 2000 Edition Book. Everything saved my life's hair. ~HTH~

Thanks for asking this question cause I really don't want to cut my hair and it's doing a lot better but was starting to think I HAD to.

NewFlowers - Thanks for the link!!

Whenever I felt my hair was in "danger" I always returned to the old standbys; Deep protein treatments (Aphogee, DuoTex, DRC 28), Co-washing, or braids. Time and again this always saves my hair from extreme damage.

Motions moisture plus Deep conditioner weekly and Motions CPR thrown in the mix, probably every 2 weeks to start. Sometimes I mixed the two!

Braids, so that I wouldn't be depressed looking at it, so by covering the damage I wasn't stressed about it and it really gave my hair a break.

Babying the ends. Stretching relaxers. Less combing and brushing. regular deep conditioners.

I went from the back literally 'eaten out' from a bad colour and it just broke off a huge chunk in the middle to, my hair last year April, that was a year of progress and no cutting, a lil dusting here and there, it pretty much everntually caught up. I was gonna hack it off I'm glad I didn't. TRUST ME IT DOES GET BETTER

NO heat, Aphogee, Porosity Control, DC and Castor and Amla oil

Similar to my regimen:
No heat, conditioner only washes (Mix of Porosity control, Moisturizing conditioner) Henna glossing with Jason Naturals Seaweed conditioner and Amla Oil to make paste, Coconut Oil, wet or damp bunning or baggying ends in oil, Deep Conditioning with Motions Silk protien or ORS and switching from Silk Elements relaxer to Design Essentials regular (more texlaxed with this relaxer). Thinking of adding DuoTex to my conditioner only washes too.

I'm getting much stronger, shinier hair, even without oil. It kind of makes sense that if you use chemicals to straighten your hair then let them do the job. Don't add heat to the mix since your hair is already fragile.

I went from seriously damaged and thin to thickening up to my pre damaged state. Man I can't wait to see what It'll look like the same time next year!

There are so many things I have done and havent. Hair was damaged from years of micros so although I didnt cut off all the damaged hair whats growin in is thanking me much. I still deal w/ breakage but these are some things that really helped turn my hair around

1. NO HEAT
2. Stretching
3. Deep conditioning w/ NTM and Moistufuse and Protein w/ any reconstructor, eggs, and oil
4. Moisturizers: mango butter, wave nouveau, ORS olive oil, mizani night time
5. Washing 2xs out of the week
6. Aveda, Aveda, Aveda.....love love love this stuff
7. Low maintence styles except for rollersetting.

Doing cowashes to increase my moisture level, weekly deep conditioning, and using moisturizers and oils appropriately to maintain moisture levels. My hair was damaged from being so extremely dry. I also stopped brushing and eliminated direct heat.

Bumping for more replies. Moisture, co washes, baggying and no heat is really working for me.

Re: For those with damaged hair that didnt have to cut... what was your hair lifesave

I stopped the breakage with DRC 28 and after that

NO HEAT (Used Caruso steam rollers instead)

Dusted longer parts until shorter caught up.

Wore loose updos to hide ends

Moisturized ends to death at night before bed and all over when styling for the morning.

I needed this thread!!! I have such dry dry ends that are not split and I was hoping I would not have to cut them. When I wash and go it doesnt look like it but I flat ironed the other day and it was nothing nice. I rarely ever do heat but no more until I get these end better!!!

Here's what helped my hair and my nerves!:

1. putting it away so I wouldn't see it (can't see it= no stress) in sewn-in weaves and braids
2. stretching relaxers six months
3. using braid spray, kemi oyl and Infusium while hair was protected and shampoo'd every two weeks
4. took hair down every 6-8 weeks and did an aphrogee treatment
5. wore hair out for a few weeks to give it a break then back to protective styles
6.dusting every time I took my hair down and a trim at relaxer time

The first cycle (six months) of doing this really turned my hair around. I'll have to post pics in my fotki one day to show the turn around.

washing and deep conditioning twice a week is what saved my hair. I really didn't wanna cut all my hair off.

Re: For those with damaged hair that didnt have to cut... what was your hair lifesave

I think once a week dcing really brought life back into my hair.

braids. when my hair was at its absolute WORST, my mom suggested that i wear braids. i wore them for a full year, getting them re-done every month and a half. even though i wasn't taking care of my hair as well as i should have been (i only washed my hair when i took out the braids), it helped me go from scraggly hair an inch or 2 below chin length to thicker fuller below shoulder length hair in a year.

I second that babygurl. This was the only thing that helped me as well. I did up my protein treatments to once every two weeks rather then once per month.

BTW your hair is fierce. :)

Stretching relaxers and baggying my ends really saved them.
