Re: For those with damaged hair that didnt have to cut... what was your hair lifesave

A Mastercuts stylist overbleached my hair and the highlights just about all broke out. :wallbash: I switched stylists who used all Aveda products, including dyes that are much more gentle. I went from washing every 7 to every 3 - 5. I use mainly Aveda products (DR and Sap Moss lines) and do rollersets only (except for when I get TU's). I keep my ends moisturized. I started using protective styles.

When I first switched stylists about a year later she showed my how my hair was breaking everywhere that the highlights were placed. About a year later, she said that my hair is healthy again. I only got normal trims, no deep cuts. I also still get my hair highlighted but it is still healthy.

I just started doing daily co-washes and airdried it in a bun..damaged ends seem to only drive me crazy when I have to look at them! So I usually stop flatironing for a while also

Re: For those with damaged hair that didnt have to cut... what was your hair lifesave

Bunning my hair has saved me doing a drastic haircut.
A section in back of my hair 'jumped ship' after some breakage, fortunately I had enough hair at the front of my head to pull back. I cover the ends with a patterned scarf and go.
Its worked wonders. My hair is thriving and I'm not going to cut to even it up - my hair is natural and this section is blending into the rest nicely.

Braids, so that I wouldn't be depressed looking at it, so by covering the damage I wasn't stressed about it and it really gave my hair a break.

Babying the ends. Stretching relaxers. Less combing and brushing. regular deep conditioners.

I went from the back literally 'eaten out' from a bad colour and it just broke off a huge chunk in the middle to, my hair last year April, that was a year of progress and no cutting, a lil dusting here and there, it pretty much everntually caught up. I was gonna hack it off I'm glad I didn't. TRUST ME IT DOES GET BETTER

I can't see your 06 and 07 pics but I was in shock when I saw your 05 pic!! Wow! I wish I would have seen this about an hour ago. I just whacked my hair. Somehow I got a small v shaped gap of hair on the left in the back. It broke off without me even noticing. It looked so raggedy. I chopped it. I'm on the verge of giving up on this long hair business. My hair grows very fast..I just can't retain the length at all. I treat my hair better than anyone I know and its still garbage!
I'm glad your hair survived. It looks so great now. I think if you have thick hair, you can make it through this struggle but if you have thin hair, there's nothing you can do but cut it and start over.

ladies when u thought it was no hope left for your hair but to cut it...what saved it ? Be it products etc....

aphogee treatment, overnight deep conditions, (stretching)no relaxers for awhile saved my hair when it started breaking off like crazy from overprocessing

Re: For those with damaged hair that didnt have to cut... what was your hair lifesave

Lots of moisturizing, more careful manipulation, stretching relaxers and most of all patience. Lots and lots of patience.

Re: For those with damaged hair that didnt have to cut... what was your hair lifesave

-Stretching 12 weeks or more
-Washing and deep conditioning at least once a week
-Baggying every night with Qhemet Biologics Olive and Honey Balm (the BEST moisturizer ever!)
-NO heat
-Protective styles every day

Re: For those with damaged hair that didnt have to cut... what was your hair lifesave

Instead of cutting my damaged hair... the following is what helped save it.

-Nexxus humectress:infatuated:
-switching from no-lye to lye and stretching out relaxers for 3mths.
-pre poos with cheapie conditioner mixed with Amla oil.
-air drying... eliminating heat is a must.(except for when I deep condition with UBH)
-no heating tools!! I air dry in bantu knots which give my hair body and curls.
-washing hair more frequently keeps my hair with a healthy shine.
-while hair is still wet... put Nexxus mousse and a few drops of Herbal Essences break's over creme in before I style hair for bantu knots.

HTH!
-finally I seal my hair with a few drops of Jamaican black castor oil.

I double processed - bleached blond, then chemically dyed red less than an hour later. Henna and regular (2 -3x weekly) DC's saved my hair. I still had to trim it off, but at least it stayed on my head long enough for me to trim it.
