Definitely this. What products are you using in your hair?
I live in humid South Florida and I'm able to get defined twistouts, but I avoid glycerin-based products, and I use a little bit of gel (Ecostyler is my face) for hold.
cwmarie what's the name of your cream and pomade? How do you apply them?I'm learning to roll with humidity. I like to use a cream and then a pomade to twists. So I have a hold, my hair is moisturized, and the swelling due to humidity doesn't totally kill my twist out definition.
I need to Google the Jennifer Aniston stuff available in sephora... I did some history searching on Sabino and a few years back the ladies here were RAVING about it... I don't see or hear much about it anymore lately. Things have changed in this group from when I first joined.
Anyways... I was just in the mirror looking at my hair... there was no reason for her to chop off sooooo much hair. I really WAS proud of my bra strap length hair... now I'm just barely shoulder length... looks like I'll be finishing this year in wigs AGAIN after all... Smh... I mean, 3 YEARS and this is all I have to show for it. I've been eating all weekend... so depressed...all my long hair & patience down the drain.
I remember now! It's called Living Proof! They have a whole line of products for different purposes. But I have only used it to keep my hair straight when flat ironed/blow-dried.
I tried so many ways with that smoothie and it always made my hair feel heavy and sticky. Hated it.that shea moisture thang is the debil in humidity. all it does is encourage your hair to suck up moisture out of the air. have you tried a foam wrap or gels for hold? also, do you style on wet hair? when i style on wet hair and let it dry completely underneath a dryer, my style lasts much longer.
I can't answer your question about shine, my hair is always dull, but I'm a 4a/b whose edges lay down pretty nicely. I thoroughly wet them with conditioner and water, making a thick cream in my hand, and then I tie my scarf as tight as I can stand for about 10 min. Then I loosen it a little and let it finish drying. If I'm being fancy, I'll use a little Aveda pomade, but I've started to notice that it does something (negative) to my lil waveys, so I might just use a serum until I start making my own stuff. When I tried with EcoStyler to lay my hair, that didn't do well at all... the Gorilla snot didn't help either... UGH!!! I seem to have these lil fuzzies that sprout up all over - and when it DRIES!!!! It's dull and not shiny at ALL!!!! How do I acheive that laid down shiny look? Even wrapping my hair in a silk scarf AND a pantyhose... Help please???
Ladies- I asked this in another thread and haven't gotten a response so far, maybe someone already in here can help? I tried to do a ponytail/bun... My hair at the roots was SO THICK! HOW in the WORLD are y'all laying your hair from edges to crown down successfully??? I went out this weekend and bought 1. Hicks Edges 2. Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste 3. Design Essentials SLEEK edge control 4. Gorilla Snot Hair Gel I'm such a PJ!!!no way I should've bought all this, but still nothing worked! OP, are your edges moisturized?
1 month ago, I started using the LOCO + scarf method on my edges every morning and night and it's made a huge difference. It took a couple weeks to fully moisturize and notice a difference though.... so keep that in mind if you decide to up your moisture game.
My edges aren't 100% LAY-ED but the fuzzy halo you're talking about has gone down significantly. Sometimes I wonder if hair type determines how slick your edges get as well.
Also, the stylist used some kinda purple curl wax stuff to make my hair shiny when she flat ironed it... it's heavy and greasy now... I hate it! I've been doing my own hair and the assistant was brushing so rough, I said never again!
Where can I purchase sabino? Is it expensive?
Tis why I refuse to go to another salon. I just can't.I know there are many good and caring stylists but all it takes is just one who is arrogant and pushy and tears through like you don't know a thing about the stuff on your own head. Go curly for awhile.
OP, press'n curl works better for maintaining straightened natural hair over ceramic iron. But you go with the grease.[/QUOTE]
I have forund this to be different for my hair.Press and curl actually dried my hair. While the ceramic truly straightened it. I would only pin curl my hair and I get very beautiful waves of hair. I'm not into "set looking curls" but a natural fall of waves. I don't go with grease because of the fried chicken affect. lol!

Lmao @fried chicken effect!
I've been pin curling since Thursday night... DirectorChic how long do your pin curls usually last? She flat ironed me Thursday and surprisingly the curls are still here...
@sunshinebeautiful I'm in humidity central in Florida as well. Details please! What are all the products you use for a defined twist out, besides Ecostyler (and how long does it last?) The glycerin in ecostyler doesn't affect you?
You have any pics? If I could get a defined twistout and have it last for more than A FEW HOURS, I might BC sooner than later!
I was getting the puffy soggy hair as well until I found out it was the glycerin in products I was using. Especially if it's high up on the list. Glycerin in humid weather destroys my styles completely. I do much better using non glycerin products. Humidity will always affect natural hair but for me it's been greatly reduced by cutting out glycerin.
Just curious but what products were you using?
