So I heard a theory about puffy hair and I wonder what y'all think about it. The gist: when you hair is properly moisturized, it will not react to humidity. Only when hair is dry does it react to humidity because it is soaking up mositure from the air. Thoughts?

I've heard that many times as well

is your hair blown out straight in this bun or is it curly and in it's natural state? i get my edges to lie down when straight by doing 4 things: sparingly apply hair grease just to the edges -- yes, hair grease. i use africa's best castor oil grease. grease repels water. flat iron with my Edge Stick apply a small amount of Edge Control tie down with a scarf When curly i get my edges to lie down by ---- wetting them - cup water in my hands from the sink or rinse my hair in the shower apply Chicoro's edge recipe ---- aloe gel, a tiny amount of guar gum to thicken the mixture and Hot Six oil (any oil wll do, but Hot 6 Oil has a vitamin E and that keeps the mix from spoiling without refrigerating. if you use a pure oil you need to keep the mix in the fridge.) tie down with a scarf add a dab of EcoStyler pink if the edges are still a little bouncy I also find that, the better the condition of your hair, the more apt the edges and the rest of your hair are to cooperate. when my hair needs to be cleaned and conditioned, it won't cooperate.:nono:

Here are pics of my flat ironed edges. And natural edges.

From my experience, it's true.

From my hair's perspective and being relaxed, natural and now transitioning, not true. My hair can be deeply moisturized to the kingdom come -- pre-pooing, deep conditioner, leave-ins, sealing -- the works -- and avoiding humectants. Get out in humidity -- POOF! Which is why I'm gonna experiment with Living Proof No Frizz and see what happens.

I can't say I've noticed that but when using humectants I have because they pull moisture from the air and in humid weather it's too much. When moisturized with non glycerin products I get much less of a reaction to humidity but I think all hair no matter what products will have some sort of reaction to humidity.

I gave up on straight, slick edges. I actually finger coil and create a slight wisp with a tooth brush. I can't do the full "baby hair" thing, but I've actually grown quite fond of my new method. I live in hot, humid Alabama and for twist outs and wash and goes I use Dream Curls topped off with Samy Get Curls Reactivating Lotion mixed with Marc Anthony Strictly Curls and my hair stays in place for days... I'm 4a/b/c btw.

Just wanted to add that I get wonderful definition and my hair doesn't poof even after sleeping on it in a pineapple and being in 80+ degree weather for hours. Sorry the pic is so dark though...

Hey MahoganyJazz! Do you have a pic of this slight wisp with a toothbrush style you've grown quite fond of? Lol...

I'm looking for any and every way possible. After I wash this hair (It's only been a week today and my hair is still soft and moisturized - I oil my hands with grapeseed oil every night when I pincurl) I'm gonna need all the help I can get - this will be my first REAL wash & go as an all natural head... and I am scared!

I think I maaaaaay just wait, keep my straightened curly pincurl style for one more week, just oil my scalp... and moisturize... that way, I won't be so upset over this long holiday weekend... Who knows, I've been waiting all week to try something new... I'll probably do it sunday since monday is a holiday... y'all wish me luck!:spinning:

For me products with beeswax fight the humidity well. This is the only reason why I keep Carols Daughter healthy hair butter in my stash. You have to be careful because too much will build up on the hair fast. You'll have to clarify your hair at least monthly.

I also look for things marketed as cream gels (Original Moxie Shapeshifter; Entwine Couture creme jelle styler). They have more hold than creams without the stiffness of gels.

I've heard good things about oudiad's climate control gel. I have a sample, but haven't tried it yet

It is very good. Right up there with the Curly Magic (old formula). And glycerin is far down on the list. Works very well with my 4CZ twist-outs and braid outs. It keeps my hair defined.

Very little shrinkage thoughout the day in this hot humid weather in Florida.

I only buy it during their 25% off sales (33.8 fluid ounce sizes)
