Hi. Is anyone out there still doing the crown and glory braids regimen?

I have decided to go back to braids after 2 years with no increase in my length. Since I ended my transition and stopped wearing braids I have made no progress - I have tried all sorts! My hair is fine so I struggle a lot with split ends and thought that trimming would help - it hasn't. For a year, up until last August, I was trimming an inch every couple of months to try to get rid of all the splits but I still have splits!

My hair grew best when I was in braids for 6 weeks and in a donut bun for another 6 weeks. I was also blow drying weekly and using cones. I didn't have splits back then. I am going to go back to what I used to do, cones and all.

So, is there anyone out there still having success with C&G?

Austro-Afrikana - thanks for the post. Sorry - I wasn't familiar with the crown & glory method - so I googled it. I'm reading up on it now. Sounds interesting.

Yes, I agree that this is a good method of length retention.
The Crown and glory method indeed contributed to much of my journey to BSL. I am carrying on with it this year in the form of crochet braids.
Good luck to you! :)

Happy New Year Ladies!!!
When I searched for crown & glory several threads on LHCF came up. Here are a few:

Godsno1girl did a very good descriptive post on the technique. Her post is in the first link, thread # 14485.
Alta Angel - I noticed you were on line when I was reading through one of the threads. Do you still use technique?

yes this method definitely works for me! Are you gonna make this into an official 2014 challenge? I'm game :sekret:

My hair grew best with this method. I'm thinking of braiding it up/hiding my hair for the rest of the year so I can achieve WL this year. :yep:

Austro-Afrikana - I just had my hair braided yesterday - so this is perfect timing. The braids are about the same diameter of a pencil and I also took a mixture of moisturizer/conditioner and oil with me to the braiding shoppe and applied it before and after braiding. So it appears that I started the crown & glory method (without knowing it existed.) Thank you again for the post.

Are you going to do the C&G method?

You didn't tell us you got braids ilong! We wanna see pics. :yep: I might do this method with my own hair or I might add some hair...not sure which though. I don't want to mess with my hair for at least 4 weeks at a time. Only thing about my real hair is that it gets very frizzy after a certain point. I might go ahead and install some medium sized braids.

Yes, I have been using this method for almost 5 years and it makes life so much simpler! On wash day, I mist hair with water and condish and finger detangle into about six braids and wash my hair. I unbraid each section, work through the conditioner with a wide tooth comb, rebraid and sit under the steamer. I rinse out the conditioner, unbraid one section at a time and apply a leave in and twist/braid to air dry.

At night, I use African Pride Braid Spray and Shea Moisture Hair Milk/Curl Enhancing Smoothie and braid my hair up in about 8 braids (I twist the ends) and put on my scarf for my braidout in the morning. I also do this with both of my DDs who have waist length hair when stretched!

Froreal3 - :yep: I had been going back and forth on if I should or not but I wasn't left much choice.
The wigs were killing my nape so I needed a different protective
I will be working out vigorously to lose some weight and braids/twists is the easiest hairstyle to support working out. I hope:crossfingers: the braids/senegaese PS along with other aspects of my regimen help me to achieve BSL by June.

I too have fine hair. I was about to do an install of braids this wknd. I know for my hair, protective styling , patience, no fro's limited wash n go's and I HAVE to keep my hair stretched. If I don't my hair is gonna have a problem. Also I cut back the trimming to 3x per yr. This yr I will c if I can trim only 2x. It will be tough b/c I LOVE the way fresh cut ends look, but it's worth it.

Do you use your own hair Alta Angel?

Hi OP, I am currently doing the cg method and i kept my last braids install for 4 months, had a weeks break where I did a protein treatment and am back in braids again. To keep my hair moisturised, I spray conditioner on the braids every 2-3 days and clean my scalp with rubbing alcohol applied with a cotton wool.

I have been struggling with length retention and this is the only method that has worked for me.

I might go ahead and try this with my own hair. My current regimen involves washing weekly, moisturizing and sealing every other day, and redoing my twists wash day on weekly.

So I'm thinking maybe I can go without redoing for 4 weeks. :look:

@SkySurfer, @beauti, @TraciChanel, @abbygirl, - glad to hear you had good results with C&G method also. Hopefully I'll be as fortunate

@Froreal3 - I have been super busy today and just too plain tired now to take pics - so I will try to take and upload tomorrow.

@Alta Angel - thank you for replying and sharing your technique. So after I take my braids out I will follow your personal C&G technique for detangling, washing and conditioning my hair.

ETA: I just saw the C&G 2014 challenge.:yep:

abbygirl 4 months is a long time to keep braids in, especially with only a week out!

it just happened happened to be 4 months, i was so busy with job hunting, going for interviews, moving house whilst also working that i didn't have to time to take them out until Christmas and my hair was not damaged at all when i took the braids out

I wore my hair in braids the majority of this summer and got tremendous growth. I'm keeping my hair twisted as of right now. The only reason I'm not in braids now is because I swim almost daily and with the cold weather I can't walk around with a head full of wet braids.
