I found this forum a few years ago when my hair was in serious need. Through the various posts, I found ORS, and have really like the products. Now, it seems as if they have changed the pomade. It was a weird chemical smell that I don't like. So I am looking to make a change.

I need a substitution for my dry relaxed hair. I like to apply in the morning as well as at night, so the scent has to be pleasing or nonexistent. I think that I would really like to try something with shea since I keep reading about the benefits.

In the past, I was not open to ordering from websites, but I have changed my mind. There are a lot of good post about Qhemet, and various butters that sound interesting. It would also be nice, and is not mandatory if the new product was black owned.

I am also toying with the idea of transitioning in the future, so I would love something that will allow me to continue to stretch my relaxer.

I would welcome any suggestions.

I used to use ORS but then my hair started to hate it. When I was relaxed I LOVED AO White Camilia. Others raved about AO Honeysuckle Rose. My hair like the WC better. Everyone is different.

I do the loc method reverse to lco with the following products as a natural ( i see you are relaxed and you may want to give a a try with a low/no manipulation hairstyle for the winter):

L: komaza califa spray, aloe my hair spray
C: claudies quinoa-coffee balancing or balancing ends insurance
O: an oil blend that i make from any of the following oils coconut, castor, olive, kukui, hemp, sapote, or meadowfoam.

I've never used ORS. When I was relaxed, I really liked Profective and CON.

But for pomade suggestions, I'd recommend Curls and Oyin.

You said you wanted something to use day and night so do you mean a moisturizer? I really love Oyin's Whipped Pudding as a moisturizer. Or Shea Moisture. My hair is fine so I have a hard time imagining someone using Qhemet twice a day. That stuff is super moisturizing and concentrated. I've used it every other day and felt like it was a little over kill.

HTH! :-)

Wow southerncitygirl - What a list. I am going to investigate all of these. Thank you for all of the links.

What does LCO stand for?

Kxlot79, i haven't actually tried the Qhemet yet. When I checked their website, it was their best selling and most moisturizing creme. I do want something hat will provide a lot of moisture to my ends

It's actually funny, but seven years ago, i didn't use any oil at all in my hair. I was concerned that it would end up looking to shiny.

I'm a LCO(B) girl myself.

Liquid
Oil
Cream
Butter on my ends for heavy sealing

My favorite moisturizer as of now is Darcy's Botanicals Cocoa Bean Moisturizing Hair Whip. Honestly, you can't go wrong with and of Darcy's moisturizers. They're bomb like that :yep:

Thanks. I was just checking out their website. Do you know if their products have a strong smell? About ten years ago, I was using coconut oil regularly. I was in a store when a little boy said to his mother, "Mom, I smell coconuts". I immediately moved away from that area. At my current age, I don't think I would be as embarressed, but I've never forgotten that day.

Darcy's stuff is pretty mild smelling IMO. It smells like it should and nothing more, but the smells can dissipate in the product after a while.
