I did it last night, but now I'm having second thoughts...what do you think? Would you wear it? How would you "improve," it? Would a handband be overkill??

A lil background...so, I recently did a second bc and am in waiting for my hair to grow back.
Trying out protective styles for the cooler weather. This was my first hand at flat twists and my hair is still pretty short, so I figured an updo was my only option...

I don't think it's ugly but it can definitely be neater and a bit more polished looking. The uneven parts bring the look down.

yes they look like struggle twists. I agree the uneven parts bring the look down. Can you get it redone by someone you know for a reasonable price. since your hair is short i would also go with smaller flat twists. even by just adding 2 or 3 more flat twists would help the look like so

You did a good job. I agree with the parting thing. For flat twists and cornrows, the parting should be good. With normal twists you can get away with "organic parting" if they are in an updo.

I think you did pretty well. The flattwists themselves look very neat and not poofy at all. I would stick a flower on the side. :yep:

The front looks ok, but the back does not. I think it would look better with smaller parts and a different design.

You did a pretty good job. Very good protective style. If it were me I would get a pretty half wig and maybe a cute headband or flower and get jazzy. But I just like having hair on my neck.

I mean its not bad :look: ....but I would rock it under a wig....in fact this is what my hair looks like under my wigs girl

You will get better with practice. The front looks good. You just need to work on parting the back. The easiest way I have found to make a straight part is to use my middle finger and thumb to mark the start and end of the part and then take the rattail end of the comb and push it along the scalp from middle finger to thumb without lifting it.

I also agree with the post that said to make the twists in the back thinner/smaller. I try to stay away from the middle part in the back. If your twists are smaller in the back it is easier to camouflage crooked parts.

Be patient with yourself. Parting and flat twisting your own hair takes a lot of practice and patience.

I do not like it either, I am sure some of the ladies have ideas for you to spruce it up a bit. Kudos to you for doing something to your hair and actually wearing itout. I do my hair every week but half the time I'm not satisifed with my skills and take it down and do a bun.

Op I like the twist out idea. Another way is just to do regular twists in the back and flat twists in the front. You will get better with practice. I'm happy you are wearing your hair out because it is great to not have to rely on wigs and weaves as a crutch.

Twist in the back is a good idea as well.

I like it. It's not ugly I just prefer my hair out more but these are exactly the kind of styles I need to learn. Just do this and keep my hair protected for a few days. I'm so style-challeneged so, to me, it is good!

Reminds me of the plaits my mum used to do on my hair after she washed it when I was little. Looks ok but the partings could be sharper and straighter

My two cents: who cares what any of us think!!! Even with your best hairstyle someone isn't going to like it. Do you. Once you find a style you like and your are comfortable, rock it!!!!

The fb page I ROCK MY NATURAL has pictures of all kinds of women natural hair. One thing I find most common is that so many have confidence with the way they look. Confidence is attractive and THAT is a must have product.
