I stopped using it a long time ago because my hair and grease, do not mesh lol but there are some ladies that swear by it and say it works or them. Are you one of those ladies?

No, I do not use grease any longer. I used it prior to my hhj. I know use pomades in which I think are pretty darn similar.

I started back using grease for my braidouts. At night, I spray my hair lightly with water, smooth, sparingly apply Dax pomade, smooth, and then braid my hair. I love the way my hair looks and feels.

Grease is what many of us grew up using on our scalp. The first two ingredients are usually petrolatum and mineral oil. Sometimes lanolin. Some ladies use it to seal the ends to better keep in the moisture. ID think anyone puts it on the scalp for fear of clogging the follicles.

I LOVE this HHJ!!

I use Nature's Blessings pomade. I use it on my temples and throughout my hair in winter when my scalp gets driest. I don't part and grease my scalp like my grandma used to, I just put a small amount on my hands, rub them together, and massage my scalp.

The smell can be a bit much, but other than that, it's never given me any troubles.

This is what I thought. I also thought we had all just gotten fancy and new millennium and now just use different terms for it such as pomade, balm, or butter. Ladies are also talking about grease that does not contain petrolatum or mineral oil. So what makes grease different from all of the other oily solid things we put on our hair?

I use Oyin's Pomade daily to seal after moisturizing before bed.

Butters are different from grease. The greases that I've used w/out petroleum/mineral oil all seem to be the same consistency of regular ol' grease just w/out the "bad" ingredients. Balm, pomade, and grease seem to be similar/the same, but I know butters are not the same. They are more like whipped solid oils.

MyAngelEyez~C~U can you explain for us again the difference between grease, butters, pomades etc?

All of the bolded are composed of oils, some with petrolatum/mineral oil, bees wax, lanolin, etc, some without. Natural butters are just more solid oils (palm oil, shea butter, mango butter, cocoa butter, etc.). Creams are water and oil emulsions. If you buy a "hair butter" or "buttercream" product, you are usually buying a thick cream, most likely water based, with varying levels of oils and thickeners incorporated. There are water-in-oil (oil based) creams and oil-in-water creams (water based). If the first ingredient is a liquid (water, aloe vera, hydrosol) then it's water based. If the first ingredient is an oil or oil-like product, then it's oil based. HTH :-)

I'd like to add Qhemet Biologics Amla Oil Nourishing Pomade. I really like that pomade, I'm guessing that it can be considered a grease.

I use/like Grease(s) in no particular order:

Camille Rose Ajani Hair Balm
Naturelle Grow's Honey Hair Balm or Rosemary Parsley Pomade
Bel Nouvo Peach Pomade
MyHoneyChild's Sophia's Old Fashion Hair Grease
Claudie's Hairline & Temple Balm Revitalizer
N'Joi CreationS Herbal Hair Dressing
Nature's Blesssing
Hairveda's Almond Glaze

I use B&B Supergro, sparingly I do massage it into my scalp. I also seal with it at times. I've used it for years is part of my heavy sealing routine.

I use wondergro sulfur grease...
Me too. Love the sulfur one. Keeps my growth up without drying up my hair.

I make no qualms, apologies or feel shame for using petroleum based grease. I'm a super fine, high porosity, type 4c that lives in a dry weather climate. Oils have been a joke and butters, including shea are marginal. They hold the moisture in for maybe a day then I'm back at moisturizing and sealing again. With work, single motherhood and trying to have a social life, aint nobody got time for that other nonsense every night.

I've had the same 5oz jar of wondergro for a year. Just bought a refill last week. Dont take much. I put it on soaking wet hair after a wash and good to go about half the week.

I think much of the mistakes made with it in the past are using way too much (greasy hair), greasing the scalp with it (clogging follicles) and using it on dry hair (just sits there and doesnt let moisture in).

I clarify and chelate once to twice a month. Retention has never been better with this difficult hair type. Easy peasy. :yep:

IDareT'sHair can you give a little review on the my honey child old fashion hair grease and the njoi herbal hairdress? I'm looking for a good non petroleum "grease" for the boyfriend and checking out your list.

@so1913

N'Joi's Herbal Hairdress is sort of like a commercial "Indian Hemp" with flecks of herbs in it and a some-what Bergamont-Herbal smell. (Not overpowering or anything)

Sophia's Old Fashion Hair Grease (MyHoneyChild) is a smoother consistency with a faint Peach scent

Almond Glaze (Hairveda) is Almond-y and slightly grainy but emulsifies on contact.

A lot of Guys like that Nature's Blessings

Thanks!!! I tried giving him natures blessings (especially since I can find it locally) but he doesn't like the scent :( I've gotten him hairobics scalp booster which smells like peppermint and he's been ok with that but wanted to see what other options are out there to consider.

@so1913

You might want to look at:
Qhemet Biologics Tea Tree & Grapeseed
SheScentIt Exotic Pomade
Claudie's Hairline & Temple Balm Revitalizer (unscented)

A few more additional Grease Options
