Do you burn or bury your shed or broken hair pieces?

I :look: test strands that have been shed for protein or moisture-need before I throw them out. Burn or bury? No.

Ha ha! I've heard of this one and I have friends who burn their shed/broken hair. The myth I heard as a child was that if a bird gets ahold of that hair and uses it to build a nest, your hair will fall out. I don't subscribe to it, but its funny that other people have similar hair myths.

My older sister told me that if a bird gets ahold of my hair, they will start pecking at my head when they see me.

My grandmother told me that the birds would drive you crazy. I tried it, but I hate the smell.

Growing up I was told that if a bird gets the hair and builds a nest with it, you will be plagued with headaches.

My question was always, how would a bird get my shed hair?

Currently, I'm saving my sheds to compare during each wash session.

However, when I go to get rid of them they'll be up in flames:burnup: in an old Classico Spaghetti Sauce Jar. Why, because that's the way I was raised. My mom is no longer here to get clarification, regarding this matter. I don't know anything about birds and/or their nests, but you definitely do not want people getting a hold of your hair. :nono:

My grandfather used to say if a bird gets your hair and uses it to make a nest you will be bird-brained. I'm not exactly sure what that means, maybe that you'll go crazy. But he used to scold my mom for just throwing away all our hair that would come out in the brush.

Yup bird snatches your hair and gives headache. Birds dig through trash and trays how.they'd get it lol
I thought it was a Caribbean thing maybe not though.
I burn or flush but burning stanks so I flush mostly.

Yeah, my granny told me about the birds and crazy headaches. She also said if you bury it your hair will grow but you have to bury it where the raindrops fall from the house onto the ground. lol :yep:

You know how many mini-campfires I would of had in my life doing this? Hayle naw. It goes in the trash, toilet, or is eventually vacuumed up.

I always flush my hair down the toilet...grandmother told me it would always grow back if I did. I just always flush it *shrugs*

I don't. However, if I am not mistaken the first time I heard about this was when I was a student in New Orleans. That, and being sure to properly dispose/hide use sanitary napkins.

yynot

Same. I cant speak for all West Indians, but thats what my family do. It's automatic for me now. Just flush it down the loo. Don't leave it lying about because it can be used against you.
Its quite practical actually.

This is based in hoodoo. I'm from the Deep South so we grew up believing in this stuff. They say that if someone can get your hair, they can put some bad mojo on you and/or make you go crazy.

My grandmother always burned our hair, fingernails, etc. She also told me people could do things with menstrual blood.

Having said that, I don't think I've ever burned my hair but I do wrap it up tightly before throwing it in the trash can or I flush it.

My mom told me to never put your hair in the garbage can because people could put a curse on it. So I always just flushed it lol

This is what my mom told me about why she flushes her hair instead of placing it in the trash :yep:

 Yep. My grandmother told us if a bird got your hair it would use your hair to build a nest and you would have a headache until you got your hair back from their nest. Scared my sister and me half to death and we would take great pains to hide our shed hair in tissue and discard it so the birds wouldn't get it. Between hiding my shed hair from the birds and waiting for money to come because my hand itched, my grandmother sure had me going.
