I'm so sad. I've been growing my hair for 1.5 years now. Most of the time it's up in a bun but every 8 weeks when I go to the salon for color or a touch up I get it curled and then I wear it down. I've come to the sad realization that long hair makes me look like a hippie, or even worse like a witch. :nono:

All this work and I'm not sure the result is going to be worth it. Has anyone else decided that they look better with shorter hair? What did you?

Uhhhhh.... pics??:spinning:

Honestly I have never heard longer hair not looking right on a woman. But I have heard some say they prefer shorter hair. Are you wearing it straight with a bend at the end or just pin straight, because I don't like straight hair on me either, it have to have a curl at the end because it makes my head look long lol

Hmmm, how about trying a different style, like adding some long layers or another type of cut but keeping most of the length.

Sometimes long hair without layers & parted down the middle on most people make them look witch-y. I agree with you on that. However, I have only seen that look on the opposite race. Do you have any pictures? It could be the way you're styling it..maybe. Pictures would help determine that though.

When it's straightened and them curled it looks ok. But the curls start to fall pretty soon and then it stats to make me look old. I have thought about layers but will the same cut look good on straight and curly hair? I don't have a picture with my face showing. These will have to do for now, and my curls are still somewhat holding up on these pics.

Maybe I am now of a certain age and shouldn't wear long hair :-(

ETA: pictures removed - I don't really like having my pictures all over the web :-)

I think your hair is pretty. But if you feel that way cute layers. Next time I relax I'm getting layers framing my face. I think it looks cute on curly hair too.

I think your hair looks great! I don't see anything witchy or hippy about your hair style. (And I am a glamorous hippy! :giggle:)

Maybe it's time to play with new makeup looks and accessories to make you feel good.

Thanks all! I like my hair, just not the combination of my hair and face. If I cut the layers should I do it with my hair in a braid out or straight?

I think your hair looks fine. I am partial to layers myself, and I think layers look great on curly hair because it gives it a nice shape.

Ahhh heck! Your hair looks great! There is nothing witch-y or hippy about it. Get some color if you're looking for change but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

ETA: What did you use to get those soft curls in the first pic? I would like to do that to my strands.

i think i look better in bobs with and without bangs. With my hair longer, i think it makes me look boring; especially since i wear my hair up all the time. personally i think you look fine with long hair.

Your hair looks nice and healthy but if you don't like the look then switch it up. Who am I to tell you it's fine when you don't think so

My stylist curled it with a curling iron. That may be why they don't last so long. That picture was about 20 minutes after she finished. The second picture is the next day after I did pin curls overnight.

Your hair is so pretty...you could go with long layers. Also, on the overnight styling, you could try what I call the doughnut method. Pull all your hair up in top of your head in a high loose pony, using a scrunchie pull the length of the pony through the scrunchie until its wrapped like a doughnut. Don't worry about securing it and don't use a ponytail holder or it will leave a mark. Wear a silk bonnet or scarf and go to bed. In the morning when you are ready to style your hair, pull the scrunchie off and fluff with your fingers. Makes for soft flowing curls without a lot of work or drama.

I totally understand you OP.

Your hair looks good, but how do you feel in it? I am one of those people who gets told how attractive I look with shorter face framing hair than long hair. I have worn my hair down and felt bored with it. If you are going to wear it long, try face framing layers and something lightweight. I don't do heavy long hair, my face doesn't handle it well. Try to get it styled in a way it feels lighter and helps to lift your face.

If if doesn't make you fell alive and beautiful go for another look.

I think the witchy look you perceive comes from the jet black color with no layers. Your eyebrows are quite full too:look: :drunk: Have you thought of highlights to complement a layered style?

Do you like to wrap your hair? Maybe see if you like it like that. How many pin curls are you doing? Maybe do big sections maybe three on each side of your head so it won't be tight curls on the end. I am with everyone else it looks nice but I certainly know how it is when we don't actually feeling our hair that much :-)

That is sooo such a myth! Think of all the Indian/Pakistani ladies with long hair. Think about some Native American women with long hair. Age has nothing to do with length--but it may have more to do with how you style it. Big difference.

I am 41 and my hair is waist length.

I think your hair looks beautiful.

I'm thinking of getting layers too. If you don't like your hair down then try ponytails.

Seeing your face would help a lot more. but from what i can see you dont look witch-y at all

OP. I think you should go for the layers. The cut just doesn't look modern/chic because its bulky at the ends. Layers would help that. You have some very thick healthy looking hair though.

Aww lady, you have beautiful hair, ya just need a little character. Either go for the layers with the curly look, or try going for a straighter look if you are going to keep it one length.

Thanks ladies, you are all very sweet. I think I will go ahead and get face framing layers and see if I like like better. As long as I can still put my hair up in a bun I think I'll be ok

I look better with shorter hair. It suits the shape of my face and my proportions better. It's true that not everyone looks better with long hair. Halle Berry is a perfect example -- she's stunning with her short do's but just pretty with her hair long.

I think the jet black is extremely harsh on you, especially since you have a heavier brow. Maybe go with a soft black or even a really nice brown. That may soften your look.

I don't think it's the length at all. I think you just need some tweaks. :yep:

I think your hair is very pretty. I would suggest trying a different shape with your eyebrows. That's a small step that has a big impact on your overall look. I think that would make a difference even without layering or coloring your hair.
