Any S-curl lovers??

Yes. I think you need to be living in a place like Arizona in the summer to not bother. You won't know if it works till you try it.

ETA: BTW, the image of my mom's hair that I posted before to show off the difference the S Curl made to her hair was taken in AZ in spring. So yeah, I take back saying not to bother if in AZ.

Well its pretty cheap, only £5 so I dont have too much to lose

Yes, S-curl lover here, standin' uppp!
After hearing Nonie 's praises for s-curl, I decided to try it. Very effective moisturiser, especially in braids/weave.

My hair responds really well to S Curl. Unfortunately, I am afraid to try the new formula because they have added Disodium EDTA. My hair does not respond well to this at all unless I am chelating.

Anyone know of a good substitute for S Curl? I am also using CareFree Curl, but it does not have Pathenol, like the S Curl did. Does that make that much of a difference?

So are relaxed ladies using s curl? If so how often and when. Is it just on your new growth when stretching.

I also heard Nonie's praises and became a convert. Now that I'm experimenting with other products I like it for using in conjunction with Motions Nourish Leave-In Conditioner (spray) and JBCO for twist/braid outs that I do overnight leaving my strands enough time to dry for the morning. I didn't particularly like it for WNGs or as a daily moisturizer for other styles but I need to experiment more balancing s-curl and other products.

When I don't have S Curl, I use Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1

I use s-curl I am texlax. I use it on the entire head from root to tip, parted in four sections. When my hair is straight I use Elasta mango butter.

When I run out of scurl, I use Hawaiian silky 14-1

So s curl will work for cowashing and bunning relaxed hair.

I started using SCurl again and love it!!! :lick: Makes my 10/11 week post ng feel silky, moisturized and just unbelievably soft. Unfortunately, I experienced scalp irritation and SCurl has got to be the culprit since nothing else in my regi changed. I'm thinking the irritation is coming from the reformulation/fragrance. Every time I spritz, I get a slight tingle. At first I thought meh and shrugged it off, but each use the tingle got a bit more tingly and intense until my scalp became sore. Is there a close 2nd to SCurl that you all might recommend? I see many items posted in this thread but I'm wanting something close to SCurl so that I don't have to waste $ chasing this or that product. Nonie, I posted a similar question on your profile page but if you don't mind, will you please answer here as it might benefit others.

divachyk, I am on my phone so didn't know you sent me a VM. When I am out of S Curl, I use Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1.

I am already getting mad at this review of the S Curl. Even if I skipped the inch close to scalp, bagging would get that oily mess on my scalp. My head is already feeling itchy at the thought. WTH couldn't they just make a second version and not mess with the original?

I used to love S-curl. It is great to spray on braids! I haven't used it in a while because I was wearing my hair down for so long but now that it is hot, I'd consider using it again-- shoot, I should have bought this with all the free coupons I got over

I wish S-Curl no-drip came in travel size :-(

Thanks @Nonie - sorry to double up on you and message you plus mention you in the thread. Thanks for responding. I hate they reformulated. Why mess up a good thing. I swear something gradually set me on fire with SCurl. As you might recall, I'm an o/n baggyer. Maybe the baggying intensified the product/fragrance and caused irritation. Oils don't make me itch but something in that SCurl isn't jiving with my scalp. The only other thing that had my scalp this sore since being on my HHJ has be amla oil. I simply cannot use that stuff. I doubled checked SCurl and it doesn't contain amla that I see. I'm not fond of the fragrance they've added although it's bearable. I'll check out H14n1. I used this years ago but don't recall the performance. TY much! ETA: I'll check Sally's or several BSS' to see if they have the old formula hanging around.

divachyk When I heard they changed the formula, I saw the old one online and ordered many bottles from the distributor who advertised it. They sent me the new one. I was pissed and told them so. They said to send them back and they would send the original...but my sis likes it...so I kept them for her. I am not using it currently and I'm not one of those people who buy many bottles of one product so I'm already feeling like I'm drowning. I just decided that if I hate it so, I'll just dump S Curl. Many other fishes in the sea!

I checked my CVS where I used to get the old version and they too only had this new mess.

Nonie, even the local BSS with dusty shelves that seem to move product at the rate that a turtle moves also has the new one. With that, I'm more than certain Sally's would have the new one also. I really don't want to purchase it online. I'd prefer to find it on the ground. Like you sound, many other fish other there. I'll start with H14n1 and go from there.

It's amazing how we are all so different - the Old Formula actually irritated my skin on contact & I could not get with the scent at ALL :nono:

But I'm actually loving the New Formula! It causes no irritation so far and the scent it nice, subtle & sweet. This is probably the 1st time I've ever been happy with a company changing it's formula :yep:

I do think that they should have kept making the Old formula because the S-Curl fans from waaaay back in the day might not care for the new version as I'm noticing from a lot of reviews - They could have just created a whole new product with a different name using the New formula - this way they could sell both & make everyone happy ...

I LOVE my s-curl! New and old it works for me, epecially this spring and summer. Cowashing, scurl and bunning is what is helping my hair to thrive!:yep:

Hmmm Id like to try s-curl. I think it would give me great slip during my stretches. However, it may also over moisturize my hair & cause major breakage towards the ends. Maybe I could up my protein @ every wash to balance it all out. Hmmm will use some after my protein treatment tonight. *fingers crossed*

I just picked some up on my lunch break. I sprayed a lil on my ends out of curiousity. What's up w/ the stiffness?

I can relate NappyRina. I really wanted to love the old formula but it always made my scalp unhappy on contact. Also, I had to follow it up with something heavy like shea butter for it to work.

I have a bottle of the new formula and I pray I have luck with it when I try it.

@ceecy29

I used to be so jealous of everyone claiming the Old formula S-Curl was the best thing since sliced bread & soooo moisturizing, blah blah blah when everytime I tried it I couldn't stomach the weird scent & it would cause rashes & itchies! :perplexed

Now with this New formula, I can experience what everyone else has been raving about for years! I honestly don't know anything else that compares. When I tried the alternatives like Hawaiian & Silky 14n1 my hair did not feel the same, not nearly as moisturized. I noticed that it has mineral oil in it so that's a no go for my Low Porosity hair and that might explain why it didn't work. Also my own homemade Water + Vegetable Glycerin spray has nothing on S-Curl!

I really, really hope the New version works for you sis ... please update when you find out ...

Present!

Took me all of 5 years to FINALLY give scurl a try.. and I am in absolute l o v e.

So I've had s curl for nearly three weeks now and I love it. I use it every time I wash my hair, which is about every two days. When I first got it I was using it too much, at least once a day, but I've found that using it on freshly washed and dryed hair works best
