Hey ladies. So I've been transitioning for about a year now and the two textures are really starting to get on my nerves. I'm having the most difficult time trying to learn my hair and what it likes. I'm also having a hard time detangling during my wash sessions. It's like my hair just gets all matted up at the demarcation line. I'm gentle with it but it seems like I still have so much breakage. Years ago when I was natural I never had the problems with my hair that I do now. Silly me for messing up a good thing right? Now, I would have no issues with cutting off my relaxed ends but the front is growing so much slower than the rest. I'm in the military and if I just went totally natural today I would not be able to pull the front of my hair back into a ponytail. I know this question seems unanswerable but are there any suggestions? Any at all that I can do? I don't even know what I'm trying to accomplish right now lol. I'm happy now in that usually when I'd try to go natural and get to this point I would just relax my hair. At least this time I'm considering just cutting the relaxed parts and dealing with one texture. I just know it would be so hard to maintain my hair within military standards.

MissTea could it be the product that you are using that is causing the problem? what I find is that when I use certain non sulfate shampoos it just mat my hair all up. try changing what you are using and see if that helps. and if you are using shampoo trying just using conditioners to see if that helps.
If you need to keep it in a ponytail I say don't cut at this point and just try the different product.

OP what are you using on your hair? For the short time I transitioned I used moisturizing products with cones for detangling, I like Hello Hydration condish. A nice leave in - I like Giovanni direct leave in, and to smooth edges I like elasta qp's gel/pomade stuff. HTH!

When I first went natural I was a few months before retiring from AF. I did the bc and wore wash n gos. Perfect for cap and easy during pt.

I did switch my shampoo and conditioner today to mill creek biotin. But I had been using as I am cleansing pudding or their cowash. I clarify once a month with redken cleansing cream. I've been alternating between conditioners (garnier length and strength, garnier hydra recharge, nutrine garlic, or macadamia oil deep repair mask). Most of the time I wash and condition in sections. Sometimes I don't have that kinda time (most of the time I do) but it still just seems matted up. And no matter what my hair always seems a but hard. It never feels like I imagine it would with the care given it.

I don't think wash n go will ever work for me. Even my natural hair before was always a mess if never tamed after washing it. Currently I'm deployed. With the length the most of my hair would be, minus the front, wash n go wouldn't work here.

can you wear braids for a while?, how about a puff pulled back? I have about a year's growth that's just4-5inches and wash and go will probably be too puffy for a cap, I have to pull my hair back under my scarf now, three months ago, my wash and go was still flat enough.
If you can wait a few more months you should be able to get a ponytail

MissTea wait you are deployed? it most likely is the water in what ever country you are in.
Yes I thought about that and it may be. The redken shampoo I have is supposed to combat hard water. I also tried not washing as often but my hair gets really dirty here. Ill just try to maintain as best as possible for now. Thank you

Are you using a moisturizing dc? You are using lots of strengthening products. Where is your moisture?

What do you moisturize and seal with?

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y

Do you have a chelating shampoo? That should take away heavy mineral deposits. Also I agree with the other post that you need moisturizing products. Curl activator,or aloe vera should really help with the transition.

Do those products contain silicones?

You might have silicone build up.

The chelating shampoo as recommended above should also work for that.
