im just wondering if I use QOD max organique on my 3cish hair how much do you think it will loosen it up? 3B maybe? I don't want it to loosen too much..a little bit I don't mind but not too much...

Aberdonian

I am a 3c as well. If you do only 2-3 passes you can get the benefits of the treatment without it loosening your texture.

I attached a picture of my hair from March 2012. The straight ends are from formaldehyde treatments all of the curly hair is from QOD Organiq.

Dove56 Thanks for that! also did you wash out straight away or did you leave it on? Im sooooo tempted to buy this....as you know so much about BKT im just wondering if you have heard of QOD's new formula- Kerapremium? I think its the same as QOD max the old one but they just rebranded? Do you have any info/ experience on it?

I've never considered BKT but this thread caught my interest. Why are you ladies getting this treatment? What are the benefits? My natural hair is pretty easy to manage...the only thing I could do without is the frizz in extremely humid/wet conditions...

After I flatiron I let it sit for about 10 minutes then wash it out. :yep:

I used to do QOD Max the original formula but I would get bone straight results which I loved it at the time but then I started missing my curls.

From my understanding, Kerapremium does closely resemble the original formula but they use aldehydes instead of formaldehyde. QOD organiq is cysteine based which is safer and I get the same results as far as humidity resistance. :yep:

This is the reason I get them!:yep: I personally think I look better with straight hair (big hair is overwhelming when you have a peanut head lol) but my natural hair won't stay down in Texas humidity!

The treatments allow me to go between curly and straight without being bound to one particular style. If my hair would stay swangy and bone straight I wouldn't need them. When I was stationed in Colorado years ago, I could wear it straight and it would never frizz.

In all of this what is design essentials? Is it à bkt too?

Ive been wanting something that straightens my hair but not for good. If i want to wear my natural hair would it be possible with all of these products you'vera mentionned on this thread?

Design essentials is basically a cysteine treatment too. It allows you to maintain your hair's natural texture and wear straight styles without reversion.

I would like to try Design Essentials but I don't trust stylists and I'm not paying $167 (I don't think I will lol) for 8oz of product. I'm too OCD and folks will turn up flatirons and do too many passes behind your back.

QOD is only $39 bucks, I can do it at home, and I KNOW I will get excellent results with that product.:yep:

So QOD Is the same type of product ? Cool. I also dont want to pay all that for à small amount of product and i dont trust stylists.

Im trying to do everything myslef. Ive always been disapointed with them even for simple cornrows. Folks dont listen when i keep telling them i have fine hair!

So these products are all called cysteine treatments/bkt treatments.?

I know my fine hair loves protein so i feel like trying it out.

I'm glad someone started this thread, I've been considering going for a cysteine treatment like this...

cadiveu-acai-therapy-3-nourishing-mask-33-14-oz-550x550.jpg

This is the cadiveu acai therapy treatment. I read a blog about it about a week ago, and it piqued my interest. It utilizes sugarcane cysteine to bond to the hair and make it smooth/shiny and is therefore allegedly non-toxic. Plus, it's only a hundred bucks on ebay, which imo beats any salon price.

If I decide to give it a whirl, I'll let you know!

De is supposed to be one pass at 365 and you are right it's not bit it's cysteine (silk protein to weigh hair down) with no formaldehyde or derivitive. You can check it out in the non but thread.

Interesting.

I really wanted to try it out but paying over 150 euros at the salon blocked me. lol im so afraid to end up.with à stylist that doesnt understand my fine hair.

Oh my.goodness its tiring me that i never.make up my mind.

I dont want to lose.my natural hair texture.

Qod Max Orqaniq is cysteine based and doesn't require all the heat/passes like the regular BKT treatments. Plus there are no fumes.

Yes, both my mom and sis have very fine strands (thick hair but fine strands) My hair is medium and extremely strong. Fine hair is a different animal.

I don't think a person with fine hair should ever get a traditional BKT because it's very hard on fine hair. The high heat and number of passes will most likely result in breakage. Plus there's a loss of volume with traditional treatments that can cause fine hair to look too thin/flat (my hair is very thick/dense so I welcomed it lol).

The cysteine based treatments are better for fine hair, probably DE moreso than QOD, because it is formulated for ethnic hair. The cysteine will help strengthen fine hair.

If you are a bit hesitant to try it out just do a test spot and watch it for a couple of months or so. I did that when I tried a sulfite based treatment. I checked the integrity of the strands over time to make sure I wouldn't get any breakage. Better safe than sorry for sure!

This is à great idea! To try it on à small part of hair.

I think im.like your mom and sis . I have fine strands but à lot of hair on.my head so some people.call me thick hair when its not the reality. Oh Well :-)

Do you know if they sell samples? I do not want to buy à whole expensive bottle.

Also i know cadiveu made a new line called Trissola which was formulated for afro textured women who want to keep their curls. Its really expensivde though!

I didnt know cadevieu was so cheap!

I think that the traditional bkt formulas arent that bad. Its the unessesary heat thats bad. Even some cyctine based smoothing treatments have similar instructions. 2-3 passes of the flat iron at 370 works very well for me.

My hair felt much silkier with a formaldehyde bkt than a cystine one except for pravana smooth out but that particualr product took a LONG time for my curl to revert back to normal after several applications.(i did a test section)
the cystine is much safter so that is why i currently use and recommend it. They are all smoothing/keratin treatments but they just have diffrent active ingredients.

i think it is really important to do a test section just to see how the hair reverts over a period of time and if the product has a cumulative straightening effect.(hair gets straighter ovef time).

Traditional treatments worked great in my hair I never had any problems at all because my hair can withstand 7 passes at 450 degrees with no breakage. I'm just over bone straight hair. Both cysteine and formaldehyde yield very silky results but those fumes are a hot mess with formaldehyde based treatments.

I don't think traditional treatments are all that great for FINE hair.

With cysteine based treatments I did them every 5 months and only did the new growth so that results would not be cumulative. With formaldehyde based treatments my new growth would get bone straight.

Well we don't have to agree. We used different products, have diffrent curl patterns and textures so we are not going to have the same result.:yep:

When I had the formaldehyde based treatment I did it will 2 passes at 375 and my hair was just awesome. No breakage or anything and for some reason my hair looked thicker. I have fine hair too. I got terrible split ends when I did 5-10 passes at 425. My hair didn't break off or become bone straight over time though. And both treatments give you silky feeling hair but didn't for me. It could just be the formula so that is why I would like to try something new.

The main point I was makins is that i don't think its fair to say traditional treatments aren't good for fine hair . It is not necessary to do multiple passes with high heat and cystine based treatment have the same kind of instructions.

Yeah MixedGirl please let us know how you like it! Are you hoping to loosen the curl a bit or just tame frizz?

Dove56 your going to regret letting me ask you more questions lol..

I was researching QOD max organiqu because I was set on buying it and came across kerapremium and it seems cheaper so now I don't know what to go for..im a student lol so money is an issue..
So do aldehyde treatments give bone straight hair from the first time its done or s it due to cumulative effects of applying the treatments or does it just depend on strand density? I don't want bone straight hair!! (but I don't mind it loosening the curl pattern a little)

Also what is the actual difference between aldehyde and formaldehyde..is aldehyde just as toxic?

Sorry for all the questions!!!

Erm thats a tough one, getting rid of frizz whilst my hair is curly would be great, a slightly looser curl wouldn't be awful either but not overly bothered. Im also interested in how my hair straight will look, my hair is naturally quite dull and not very smooth when flat ironed.

No problem!

I don't personally trust the aldehydes anymore than the formaldehydes ( I think they are both unsafe and both produce strong fumes).

Whether or not your hair gets straight from the treatments right away or over time depends on so many different variables. Strand density, previous chemicals processes, high heat during the treatment, and formaldehyde content are a few things to consider.

I think the cysteine treatments are the safest alternative for textured hair and for health reasons. :yep:

Here are some of my pictures over the years with the treatment and without.

1). 100% natural curly hair.

2). Hair after a traditional 2% formaldehyde BKT.

3). Preparing hair for QOD Max Original treatment

4). Relaxed hair with highlights (Before BKT existed lol)

5). 100% natural hair after a washing and taking down one big French braid.

Oh you have such pretty hair! Thanks for sharing

I was wondering if it would be better to split bottles of keratin treatment for a better value? They are so large and I am not doing them so often to warant a liter of product

There are a few lesser known and newer brands I want to try
