How long does it take you to airdry?

Hi ladies,

I have been trying to airdry using the scarf method since I started my HHJ. But it takes my hair more than 24 hours to dry, my current length is APL. I wanted to know how long does it take you to airdry? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way that I can airdry where it wouldn't take more than a day? I am relaxed.

Thanks for your responses

I'm relaxed and it takes me 2 hours to dry with my hair hanging loose...I finger detangle as it's drying. My hair is about bsl.

sunnieb also airdry's.

It normally takes about 1.5 hours if my hair is hanging loose. If its in a pony or bun then it takes much much longer about 12 hours

If I try to air dry from sopping wet hair -- hours.

If I t-shirt dry for about 15 mins then apply my LIs -- 1 hour tops.

It used to take about 5-10 min, but now that I have my moisture-protein balance (porosity) under control 5-6hrs. :yep:

Air drying I think 3 hours/4 hours... roots dry first then my ends.... If I am knotting usually I have to air dry and dry overnight.... my knots always come out damp in the morning. Working on that drying time.

Isn't it nice to have hair that takes a long time to dry

I love it. When I see people complaining about hair taking long to dry-- I know they don't realize that means their hair accepts moisture and holds it! That's a good thing. You may need to experience hair that doesn't get wet to really appreciate this.

My hair takes FOREVER to air dry. Yesterday I plopped with the tshirt for an hour...my hair was still wet. I sat for another hour and a half...still wet. I've actually never waited longer than 2-3 hours...I usually give up and pull out the diffuser or the soft bonnet and put it on low. I can't go to sleep with wet hair.

Does this mean I have low porosity hair? That's the only concept I can't seem to grasp...

For those who said it takes 24 hours, do you live in warm climates? How do you sleep?

I wouldn't wish fast drying hair on anyway, but having the perspective is good :nono:

If I put a scarf on it really depends on how my hair is when I wrap it up at night. Bantu knots dont dry overnight usually especially if they are larger ones, and because my hair is way thicker now even wet wrapping doesnt leave it dry by morning its still usually damp.

I live in DC so right now its cold but I guess its moderate climates. To be honest I dont notice that my hair is wet when i go to bed unless I am overnight DCing then its noticeable. Normally I will do my hair about an hour and a half to two hours before I go to bed so it can air dry and then once a scarf is on it hopefully it will be dry by morning. If it isnt I moisturize with water based moisturizer seal and then blow dry on cool to dry it so its not sopping wet. I usually put it in a bun at this point.
