I am sorry to do this, but I need help. I trimmed my hair in December, but my ends have been feeling drier than normal. I don't if my ends are damaged and I didn't take out enough or if they are just feeling drier because they are older and that is a normal part of the process.

The first two pics are the hairs I had in a bun. They have just been stretched from the bun. The last one is hair I took down from twists. I started to twist, got lazy, and threw the rest in a bun. I moisturized each twist before twisting, but just rubbed some moisturizer on the remaining hair before putting it in the bun.

Do I need to trim ASAP or can I wait until the end of the quarter and do my usual trimming/dusting? Is it just normal frizz? Or do I need to moisturize better?

IMO, you can wait till the end of the quarter. It's probably just the winter air taking its toll. My DD sometimes has ends like that, I just up her moisturizing. Hopefully others will also chime in.

That looks like normal frizz to me. Double seal your ends. With a cream and an oil. And stop worrying. Your ends look fine. :)

I am right there with you hun. I'm actually on here trying to figure out what's best to use on my hair for moisturized twists and I'm looking to find out what products to use. I'll share what I've found so far. . .glycerin is a no no, during these dry winter months, it can have the opposite effect and bush up the hair.

deep condition, often, with heat

seal seal, then seal again.

use a thicker consisistency leave in.

My hair is such a mess right now. I'm just tired of it for the moment. I think I am going to twist it and hide it under some cute tams for a while. so tonight, I think I will apply some moroccan oil which I read is a great anti-frizz product, then I will apply my wild growth hair oil and jbco to my scalp and hair, I will dollop on some cantu shea butter leave in to twist it and then finally re-seal it with my elasta qp mango/olive oil

good luck to you. wish me luck too. This is my first winter as a natural and whooosaaaahhhh

after m/s run castor oil down the last 2-3 inches of your hair, it will work wonders. i'd say give it 2 wks but you could see results sooner.

Your ends look great! No splits and very few knots or tangles. The hair looks too naked for winter to me. I cover my stuff up. LOC. I saw you gave away some butters. Girl you need that palm oil/mango butter/capauchu butter/shea butter in your ends for the winter, why you trying to play.

I grease my bun down and put a silk scarf on to create that heat, by morning it has melted and the extra is on the scarf.

OP you motivated me. lol
I cowashed earlier and my hair was airdrying into a bush. welp, i oiled, moisturized, sealed and oiled then two strand twisted my hair all over. it has come back to life. i just learned that my hair neeeeeeeds oil and thick creamy things.

ooo, palm oil? I have some red palm oil, is that what you are refering to? I've been wanting to find out how to use it.

I bought it only because I saw that red palm oil was a main ingredient in Ojon.

It looks like frizz. Check for splits and if you find none then just assume winter, air, and age. Perhaps you need to change up your regimen or focus more moisture on your ends before sealing

Thanks everyone. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be doing.

I need to do a better job sealing, but I hate greasy hair. I am so relieved. This hair is so confusing to me sometimes.

The butters leave my hair greasy no matter how little I use. I think I might be low-medium porosity so I want to try thick moisturizers to seal along with oil before my leave-in and see how that works.

I also need to pull out that steamer again.

when was the last time you clarified? It could be a combination of product buildup keeping true moisture out and making your hair look worse than it really is.

Have you tried baggying your ends? If not, try it with a leave in, but don't seal with an oil until after you take the baggy off. I had to figure that out when i was relaxed....are you relaxed or natural?

I forgot to add since your hair is frustrating you:
Wash
Deep Condition
:look:Cut it all off...... put in a plastic baggie and mail it to my POB so I can take the burden off your hands:lol:

All jokes aside your curl pattern is lovely and if if m/s is a bit greasy endure it for the winter so the dryness doesn't lead to breakage. If butters don't cut it for ya, creams or lotions might be a better bet with a lighter oil on top and the ends sealed with castor. I would DC on a weekly or bi-weekly basis making sure I alternate btw moisture & protein or use a condish thats balanced in both. Know that ceramides help with moisture so look at those threads as well to figure out how to implement them into your reggie. Even when I think my hair is dry no one ever seems to think so, so sometimes our own perception is exaggerated of things.:yep:HTH

I think you should wait until the end of the quarter. If you just trimmed your hair then its probably lack of moisture in the air. Do you wear your hair in a protective style before going to bed? Because if I accidentally fall asleep without putting on my lovely silk scarf then my hair is very frizzy in the morning.

Try applying oil to your ends at night and putting on a silk scarf (I sometimes put my hair in a bun instead). I don't know if you straighten your hair at all, but maybe try to straighten to assess the damage.

I agree with the sealing comments. I use crisco on damp hair. My hair is never greasy when it dries. It took a few times for me to get it right.

I'm all up in this thread! I've been experiencing dry and frayed looking ends lately myself. I've implemented most of the suggestions here already and my ends (ONLY) still can't stay moisturized and are breaking. It has to be my house because I'm here most of the day, I work from home. My DH says the humidifier on the furnace is on so I should probably buy a room humidifier, only I'm never in one room. Whole head baggying may be an option but I don't want DH to come home to a wife with a plastic bag on my head all the time either, lol!

I am natural. In the process of trying to diagnose and treat my ends I did a protein treatment two weeks ago and used a sulfate shampoo this past weekend. I couldn't figure out if I needed protein, moisture, to clarify, to seal better, or if it was normal frizz. The ends just stayed the same so it probably needed more moisture and all my work was making it worse :spinning:.

I have not baggied before, but since I wear my hair in a bun most of the time, I will try to incorporate that.

It did. Thank you so much.

My hair gets that way every winter since I moved up here. I may not seal the length of my hair daily but I seal my ends with Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade :lick: every day.

I agree with baggying at night with a heavy cream and seeing how that goes.

Look for kimmaytubes video about how reacts to pH.
MY ends will look frizzy depending on the product I use, some make my hair rdmain or get more bushy, others allow it to curl/ clump.
I also agree wih the recommendation to double seal you hair.,

Her leave in recipe is the truth. PH is key to healthy hair.

Uh Oh, I hope its not protein overload. I did that when I first went complete natural by using henna(which is why I'm hesitant to use it again, even though I want the color) moisture moisture moisture is the only way to correct that. What type of deep conditioner are you using? Do you cowash? I just got on the tresemme naturals bandwagon and it is great for cowashing. Some aloe vera juice will also help to lay your cuticle down so you can see whats really going on with your hair.

awww, you are such a good wife, I need to step my hair up. My DH already is not a fan of natural hair(he prefers it straight). When you baggy, do you seal before you put the baggy on? I learned from some blog that we shouldn't do that. it can make the hair become mushy and more fragile. for me personally, I'm finding that glycerin is not thebombdotcom for my hair. I may have to eliminate its use all together. it leaves my hair dry :ohwell:

I read before I bought it that WGHO softens the most hard rough hair and sure enough. it is helping tremendously on my hair.

Your hair looks fine.

In the past, my hair would go through dry stages where I didn't know what to do. I used to trim like crazy and use protein. Now I just chill and deep condition and my hair is acting beautifully.

Try deep conditioning with heat to combat the dryness.
