Aww mwedzi aka My Hair Twin!

Girrrrrrl...lemme tell you....I totally understand where you're coming from...
:bighug:
After 6 years of struggling with my hair I chopped it ALL OFF last January and have been rocking a nice ceasar cut for the past year-Talk about wash n go LOL!!

My scalp is fussy and wants (better yet demands!) that I wash her often ... a lot of sistas can get away with washing once a week or every 2 weeks and putting their hair up into a protective style and not having to deal with their hair for a while giving them a much need break...but no can do with this scalp!

The detangling sessions were dreadful and so was the thought of not washing my scalp for a while soooo the hair had to go. :yep:

I will say from experience that if you want long hair, locs are the best option for LOWEST maintentence (had them for 3+ years) They are a set "style" once the hair is loc'd so if you're not particular about having perfectly neat roots all the time, it's a pretty easy breezy hair lifestyle, especially once your hair gets long enough for ponytails & buns!

And of course the ceasar is the best choice for LOWEST maintenance short hair. You don’t even need conditioner or leave-in or shampoo for that matter (you can opt to use your body cleanser since your're just washing scalp=skin) Simple routine: Just cleanse for seconds literally + brush or comb or NOT + go. The only thing is you have to keep up the cut but the frequency totally depends on the style & hair growth rate. I kept up with line-ups & cuts (using clippers + the 1/8 inch guides) every 1-2 weeks. Hubby cut mine most of time but I also cut on occasion (easy).

All that said, I am currently growing my hair out again (say what?!) – this time I plan to Texlax. I’m giving long + loose hair one more try. But if I find that it’s more or less the same old story where washing frequently becomes a chore, I can always go back to my ceasar or go back to locs for length without the detangling nightmares. :yep:

I too refuse to let my hair take over my life and frustrate me to no end just for the sake of having long and/or natural hair and I’ve tried just about every regimen known to man over the years. I know many people might be shocked or disappointed with your choice to cut or relax all that luscious hair but I get it – when you actually have to maintain it and your lifestyle no longer allows for the TLC it needs then you have to make a decision about your real priorities.

I can’t wait to see what you eventually decide to do!

Haha, yes, you understand! So I cut most of my hair off. Then it was still too long, so I cut it again. It looked to be about 1-2 inches off my scalp when doing wash and gos. I just blow dried it out yesterday for the first time since I cut it and there's still too much hair. Like a good 5" of hair was hiding all kinked up and balled up close to my head. It's like my hair knew it was going to be cut and tried to hide. It is a terrible, terrible mess right now, horribly uneven. I really don't know what to do with it. A professional needs to do something, but I haven't decided if I really want to cut it all off and go with a Caesar or not. And did I mention I'm afraid of stylists? Reniece suggested someone else cut it if I wanted tapering and what not in the cut and I'm scared to go to someone else because they will blow dry it and pick it out and it will hurt; it's still hurtable length. I think I might pick up a couple packs of hair at the beauty supply and put some braids in myself over today and tomorrow, which I can do, albeit really slowly, but I'm off work. Then maybe in a few months when I'm tired of braids, I might get it texlaxed and go from there. Then like you, if I don't like it, I can always cut it all off again. That was my plan anyway before cutting it, but I just couldn't bear to comb it out even one more time. *sigh* Still not sure . . .

DH thinks it's hilarious that we dated all this time and just a few months after getting married I cut all my hair off. He's not mad, but just rolls his eyes.

Hi mwedzi
Didn't read the entire thread just the first couple of posts and looked at the link. I have found, and you need to consider this, that short hair means more time spent on clothing, accessories, and makeup. Especially makeup. You cant have short hair and not wear makeup, or just throw on any old thing. Why? Because makeup helps you look 'finished' and, more importantly, feminine. Not saying people who dont wear makeup look masculine, just saying that short hair plus no makeup is a difficult look to carry off.
I'm looking forward to seeing any pics of your new cut.

mwedzi, did you post pics of your new cut? just making sure I didn't miss the post. TIA

Girl, I don't have a cut! I have a butchered situation going on. I'll post if it ever looks good, haha.

You can't?! Oh nooooos! Haha, I'm sure I'll work it out. ;)

I'm tired of my hair stealing my life. I've cut off most of it, but it is still taking too much time. I'm open to relaxing, cutting more, going near bald.

LOL I did the same thing ... first I cut the nape really short & chopped the rest to about 5 inches ...that lasted only a few days....I thought the cut would shave off a lot of detangling time but NOPE :nono: .. so I cut to about 1 inch which was much easier to detangle but I didn't like the look on me (too retro 70's LOL)...so I took the plunge & cut to 1/8 inch ceasar & it was PERFECT!!

I was scurred that I would "look-a-like-a-man" but it was a BIG hit with everyone & I actually smiled when I saw my reflection (awesome feeling) ... and the FREEDOM I felt during that 1st wash afterwards was priceless! :yep:

I'd say if you're gonna cut but are scared you might not like it, do it now while it's still cold out...if you hate it you can always wear wigs/hats/scarfs/headwraps etc while it grows out before it gets too hot for alladat! Even if you relax it now, if you hate it you have time to experiment and cover up all the mistakes or grow it out before it's too hot to cover anything. I plan to texlax sometime in January & get to know my hair again + get a routine together before the Summer. If I hate it I'll go back to the ceasar for the Summer heat.

Oh yeah & tell hubby you tricked him into walking down the aisle with that gorgeous long hair and it all goes downhill from here LOL
:lachen:

By the way congrats on getting married girl!!

Lol. I didn't mean CAN'T can't, just that it's slightly more difficult. Of course, not everyone wants to look feminine or cares about it, or thinks it matters. I'm not a girly girl myself, i was just giving you something else to bear in mind.
