Is there anyone out there who has or had hair, type 4, relaxed or natural, that took almost no time at all? Meaning less than 10 minutes on any given day and not more than 1 hour on any given week and *never* more than 2 hours? So if you have to get your hair braided every 6-8 weeks and you don't have to do anything to it after that, but it takes 5 hours to get it braided, that doesn't count. And if you have dreads that have to be retightened once every 4-6 weeks but it still takes 3 hours a time to do it, still too much.

I am looking for hair that requires virtually no work. I'm open to hearing that the only hair like this is no hair. Let me know any hair style you have had that is like this.

I'm tired of my hair stealing my life. I've cut off most of it, but it is still taking too much time. I'm open to relaxing, cutting more, going near bald. Just want to hear realistic options. Thanks!

I'm hoping NO ONE responds!
I took one look at the name and "say whaaaat"
You ain't citing NUFFIN missy!
Who's with me?

ETA- you ALREADY cut off most if it!!!?

Girl, you have beautiful hair, but I don't even know how one would accomplish 10 minutes a day or 1/hour a week and still have healthy hair. I've always been natural and I literally used to do nothing to me hair, which is why it stayed short. lol I didn't DC, washed once every couple weeks and kept my hair in extension braids or just an afro.

Also if you work out the math on the getting your hair braided and leaving it for 8 weeks option, it comes out to about half an hour per week. I think that's pretty good. If that's still too much, I'd probably just get a low Cesar, fade or mohawk with cute designs on the side if I were you.

I am type 4, but my hair is not as long as yours (longest length just at APL). It takes about 45mins - 1 hour for my weekly detangling/cleansing (excluding deep conditioning time) and about 15 mins or so during the week (co-washing/moisturizing/laying down edges or frizz/re doing the bun etc. depending on the style). I am style challenged so my hairstyles consist of buns or other simple up-dos or french braids/dutch braids/flat twists in that crown style around the perimeter of my head.

thanks. it might ultimately be a caeser that i go with. my work environment doesn't really mesh well with something like a frohawk or designs. and i no longer have the patience to sit for hours at a time for things like braids.

thanks. i wish i could detangle in that timeframe. your hair is longer than mine now. i just have a few inches. it is still taking me longer than an hour, so something more will have to change.

If you are keeping it styled for a week or more at a time then it should take no more than 5 mins a day to tidy up edges and what not. I usually bun on wash day then leave it for two weeks. I only detangle on wash day and do that with conditioner - takes about 5 - 10 mins.

I hope you find a solution that means you don't cut or relax!

..........I spend little time on my hair due to getting it straightened at the salon, but I think that doesn't quite answer your question.

I think a low cut is the only style that meets all those requirements...and you'd still have to get it shaped often.

You cut your hair?! Do you have any pics?!

(Sorry, I don't have any other suggestions for you. When I do take longer than an hour on my hair, it's part of my "me" time and relaxes me. I'm single, though, so I'm sure if I had more going on, I would have to revise my outlook.)

maybe. how long does it take you to get it straightened and how often do you do it. but actually, it probably wouldn't work as i work out and another thing i find annoying about long natural hair is that i feel like i can't work out as often as i want because of sweat, washing and detangling.

yeah, i am thinking about a cut like this:

haha don't be sad. i used to find my hair to be a hobby and it was fun. not anymore though. i only have a picture of the cut hair, still waiting to get it shaped up. it's in random twists now waiting to dry

Wash day is time consuming yes, but I can wash, roller set, dry and doobie wrap my hair in about 1.75-2 hours (not counting pre-poo time).

And it takes me less than 10 minutes to style in the morning since I'm just combing out my wrap.

The longer my hair is the less work, I find. The only time my hair consumes my life is when I've had short hair cuts. That's why I'm growing it back and not going shorter than shoulder length ever again.

My entire salon visit is about an hour, maybe hour and a half...my stylist is fast with the flat iron  My hair is a lil past APL and my last relaxer was this summer. I go to the salon once a month. I also workout (walking, dancing, weights), but I don't sweat a lot in my head and I wear a high pony when working out. So far the salon is working for me, but we'll see how it goes once I'm fully natural.

When I had about 4-5 inches of hair, I could wash, detangle, and style in about 30 min. I'd do my hair every 3-4 days in a WnG so that was good time for me. Now it takes about 40 min. I am just past APL. I can get 5 day hair from a WnG and convert that into a bun or pony for a few more days.

Right now I'm doing more braids and twists so they take hours to do.

I wish I could do it in 10 min. I'd prob rip my hair out if I did though.

Seriously !!!!!
I know you sound frustrated and probably are but ..........

Say what!!?? 10 minutes a day?:eek2: ....I would only wish. When my hair is in a protective bun it still takes me 15-20 minutes to refresh my nape and edges and moisturize seal and baggy before i head out. When I wash my hair it literally takes takes 24hours. It is a whole day process for me because I start the day before with a prepoo and i don't even need to get into the detangling process.

My hair is like that! It takes me no time to do ANYTHING. I don't get SSKs or tangles either. My hair is 4b in the front and sides and 4a in the top and back.

I don't know about braids because I don't wear them. But my combs through easily, so it takes no time to care for or style.

I take my hair down every day as I find it very hard to sleep with it in. What type of buns do you do and how do you sleep with it?

you cut your hair!!!???!!!

Ok, now that's out the way, the only hairstyle that took 10 minutes a day for me was locs, plus retwisting every few weeks. As my locs got longer I would only retwist the edges mostly.

@Ogoma These days I don't do buns I just do ponies and shingle the tail, but I sleep in that too. Otherwise it is just a donut bun, with or without the donut, in the middle of my head. I sleep on my side so it's not an issue. Do you sleep on your back?

I sleep in one of these http://www.britishcurlies.co.uk/store/products/Pocket-Bonnet.html

I start on my side, but end up on stomach/back.

I always wake up with a headache if I try to sleep with my hair tied up

mwedzi! Congrats again!!

The only way my hair will fit that category is if I flat iron it.

1x every 2 to 3 weeks:
  • Wash and condition = 20 minutes.
  • Flat ironing = 1.5 hours.
  • Put in jumbo twists = 15 minutes.

Daily:
  • Maintenance = 5 minutes tops.

My other option is to cut it down to 3-4 inches and wear a daily wash and go. I'm actually leaning towards doing this latter later next year or in 2014. :look:

I think locs are the only answer, if you learned to retighten them yourself. You could also freeform but I know not everybody likes the look

ETA I didn't know cutting was an option *pours out some likka in remembrance*

Since you've already cut your hair, enjoy and rock the new short look! My hair takes no time at all and the longer it gets, the easier it is.

I think a low cut is the only style that meets all those requirements...and you'd still have to get it shaped often.

This is one reason I don't cut my hair short or have locs or do twists or braids. The maintenance would annoy me. I stopped relaxing because I didn't want to get a retouch every however many weeks. These styles require maintenance even more frequently so these are not an option for me. I don't want to do the maintenance myself or have anyone else do it for me.

The longer my hair is the less work, I find. The only time my hair consumes my life is when I've had short hair cuts. That's why I'm growing it back and not going shorter than shoulder length ever again.

My hair is like that! It takes me no time to do ANYTHING. I don't get SSKs or tangles either. My hair is 4b in the front and sides and 4a in the top and back.

The longest time I take to do my hair is wash day on Sundays when I just chill anyway. And wash day is a wash and DC. I can pre-poo overnight. So I spend about 35 minutes to an hour on wash day depending on how long I put my heat cap for the DC on for. The DCing determines how long the process takes. If I do a quick condition it's 10 to 15 minutes tops.

When my hair is long, I can style it any way and it still looks good so I am waiting patiently for BSL and longer lengths again. But even now at almost APL and natural, I still take about 5 or 10 minutes to style and I'm out the door.

I'm thinking that if your hair is <6 inches, you could probably wear wash and gos quite well.

I've been co washing and bunning for about 2 months now and I've noticed my hair (especially the crown) feel fuller and healthier. My ends are thickening up some and I lose very little hair set detangling. If you want a quick and easy style, try bunning. I spend the most time experimenting with the buns I see on pinterest

I'm texlaxed, 4b, about an inch from WL, and workout 3 days a week, and I don't spend a lot of time on my hair. Here's my basic routine:

I cowash (or shampoo if needed) every 1 to 2 weeks. This is the only time that I detangle and moisturize/seal my ends. I follow with a rollerset (to straighten only). This process takes about an hour, not including drying time. To dry, I usually just sit under a bonnet dryer for about 30 minutes and then go to bed, allowing my rollerset to finish drying overnight. In the morning, I remove rollers, tie my edges down with a scarf and comb into a bun, with a pony holder or banana clip at the base, which I wear daily for work. I like buns but I do occasionally wear my hair down on the weekend.

At bedtime, I sleep with my hair in a bun, with moisturized edges tied down with a scarf. So, my morning routine is basically removing my scarf and tidying up a bit...takes about 30 seconds!

I do my own texlax touchups, every 6 to 8 weeks. I don't like stretching any longer than that because I sweat a lot on my scalp during my workouts, causing my roots to get too tangled if I wait longer between touchups. This is the only time I do protein treatments and DCs. This process takes about 2.5 hours, not including drying time.

I wish you success with your hair decisions.

Have you considered locs or sisterlocs? Also, texlaxing? When my hair was texturized I could wash and go or Wash and bun etc whenever I wanted. I washed my hair frequently and it was a breeze to detangle
