Seeing the youtube video on hair threading reminded me again just what a great protective style this is, so decided to do it for my DD.

Washed and dc'd her hair with a mix of Mayo and honey (her hair reacts so well with mayonnaise, gets all her tangles out!). Then put my mix of whipped shea button on dripping wet hair and proceeded to thread.

Gorgeous!!!! I love how you can see how long her hair actually is. Her shrinkage is amazing!

:yep: regular twists tend to shrink up, but i like how the thread keeps her hair stretched, while still preserving the look of a twist...i'm actually fascinated by this lol...

I like this style and how it stretches the hair but still looks like twists. I wish I had known about it when I was still natural.

Gorgeous !!! I love this particular method the end results look like twists ... wonder what a "twist" out with this would look like

TalkTru

So pretty. Did you do it on wet, damp or dry hair? Also since the ends are exposed do you have to do anything special to keep them protected? Does this take longer than actual twists?

I did it on wet dripping wet hair, though by the time I go to the last one at the front, her hair was just damp.

Edited to add - for the ends, I make sure I still spray Scurl on her hair and seal with castor oil

TalkTru, your daughter has gorgeous hair, you did a wonderful job. What regimen do you use to maintain such lovely hair?

I have to wash and dc weekly because she swims every week. That's why I am just over joyed that her hair loves Mayonnaise:grin: I bulk buy from the supermarket when on sale. I add a tablespoon or so of honey to the Mayo and use it to dc her hair.

Once in a while, I'll use Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner (again with added honey) to dc her hair, however mostly, it's just the mayo and honey. For her scalp, the only thing I use is jojoba oil and she baggies most nights. I only ever add shea butter mix on dripping wet hair and spray every other day with my S-Curl mix (mixed it with aloe vera juice and store it in the fridge)

Mostly, she is in twists, but she's a growing girl and was getting fed up of twists, she loves this hair style though:yep:

As soon as I saw the title I knew you were going to mention Nadine's videos. I love her videos. So helpful and informative.

These are nice. They use to do extensions like this in DC when I was in middle school/high school. Been trying to remember what they were called. Thanks for posting. :)

TalkTru - your daughter and her hair are beautiful. You did a great job on the threading.

I may try it on my DGD's hair - AFTER she finishes swim lessons. I won't have time to take her hair down and re-do in the middle of the week.

OMGee!! Your DD is my natural hair inspiration!!

You did a wonderful job, mama!

Now I'm even more inspired to try threading...

My mom used to do my hair like this as a little girl. She used to do all kinds of styles with it. It was one of my fave things to do on my hair, until I moved to America and some kid asked me why I had strings in my hair. lol... I never asked her to do my hair like that again. Come to think of it, kids are cruel.

manter26 She has crazy shrinkage going on!

One more question...:look: Is her hair still wet in the OP pics? Did it dry and keep the length? I know the youtuber says the hair will shrink over time in threaded plaits but I'm wondering if it keeps it's length for at least a day.

I'm really going to have to sell this concept to me niece before she let's me use her as a guinea pig.

manter26 Yes, her hair is dripping wet in the OP pics. It has kept the length with the thread, she has been wearing it in a pony tail, I'll take a pic when she returns from school.

manter26 sorry, took the pictures, then forgot to upload yesterday. Here they are, actually, I think it did shrink a little.

Oh wow, I definitely have to try this now. My niece is 4b and no matter what state I do her hair, she comes home with shrunken twists. I guess it's the humidity too. I wonder if I can figure this out in a weekend, lol. Thanks for all your help!
