I've tried to seal with JBCO but it's so thick, I end up ripping hairs out. What's your technique?

I use JBCO in my spray bottle mix, and regular castor oil mixed with coconut & WGO for oil rinsing. I don't like to use it to seal, because it's just too heavy for that, and it would just sit on my hair. I find CO works better to seal.

I only use JBCO on my scalp its just to thick to use on my hair unless I'm adding it to my DC

DEFINITELY mix castor oil in with a lighter oil. i don't really seal with it though. i find that to be a waste...it requires too much oil.
when i use it, i mix mine with hot six oil or olive oil.
i also will put a few drops in with my water based moisturizer and spritz the mix on my hair.

Maybe you have fine hair, jbco works very well with my hair for sealing. How much are you using? I use a nickel sized amount and rub it together and then apply. If not, try a lighter oil.

also you need to ensure that the JBCO you have was not made with salt. If its from one of the popular brands this should not be a problem. here in Jamaica when buying castor oil in the market you have to specify that you're gonna use in your hair and that u want the one that wasn't made with salt (apparently they say the salt will make your hair break)

How are you using it???
I literally do a dab of it on my scalp, and rub it in like I'm greasing my scalp, and put a dab throughout my hair on top of whatever product I'm using.
And I'm usually doing twists or braids when I use jbco or regular castor oil so by the time wash day come around it's all settled into my hair and scalp.

I have very fine hair and I started using JBCO about 4 months ago. I put it in everything now... My DC, moisturizer, and I always put it on my ends and my hair has improved by leaps and bounds.

You are using too much. Literally...I pour a dime sized puddle in my palm and DAB my finger in it and put it on my scalp. Castor oil is so thick you literally only need a dab.

photo quality not the best but the hair actually looks thicker ...
I agree with the other ladies add another oil (I use evoo), not too much though just enough to smooth the oil on your scalp

i cut jbco or regular castor with a combo of any of the following oils:
sapote
meadowfoam
evco
evoo
kukui
for every 1pt castor i use 2-4 parts another oil or oil blend. remember a tiny bit of creams, oils, pomades, and lotions goes a long way in general.

Only time I had an issure with Castor oil is when I tried to seal with it on wet hair, it was horrible and it does seem like its ripping your hair if you have fine hair and not super gentle but to me it just not gliding on kinda like shea butter doesn't glide onto my wet hair. On 80% dry - completley dry (moisturized and sealed with lighter oil) its a breeze applying.

Am I the only confused one here? How does oil rip anything out? It sounds like an issue with technique and rough handling versus the product itself. A lighter hand and patience may make a difference.
JBCO is a very thick, sticky oil...it sticks to hair and rips it out that way, in my experience. It also smells bad.
I tried it on my hair and skin before; castor oil is a deep cleansing oil - it dried my skin out. I, personally, would never leave it on the length of my hair. I would only use castor oil to aid in filling in thinning spots where my follicles needed a boost or as a part of a deep conditioner that would be rinsed out.
