looking for an alternative to shampoo

Just for regular wash, many people just don't use any shampoos or uses WEN. If you want to clarify, you can just do a search for clarifying and should find some options that does not use shampoo

Terresential Mud Wash is pretty popular around here. Those that use it all seem very satisfied w/moisture/cleanness

These are some suggestions...I don't shampoo, because it's too damaging for my hair. Because I need a clean scalp, I use cleansing conditioners instead of cowashing. Here are some of my faves:

Wen
Ren by Renpure
Deva-Curl No Poo
Deva-Curl Low Poo
Curl Junkie Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner
Shikakai cowash
As-I-Am Coconut Cowash

Some also use a baking soda rinse or an ACV rinse. Even though it is a shampoo, some use shampoo bars because they are less drying.

You can also use some form of bentonite clay.

I agree with all of these and i'll add a few more suggestions

1. DUDU osun- Black African soap
2. Shikakai bar- IAyurvedic
3. Diluted castille soap
4. Tea rinses with antimicrobial essential oils (peppermint, tea tree etc), lightly massage the scalp and cover your eyes!
5. Ayurvedic powders

EDTA: Forgot to mention..... oil washing was fairly common several years ago on this forum.

Those are good suggestions. I had forgotten about the black soap. I didn't know about the tea rinses.

Thanks ladies. Great suggestions. I've done some research and Ive learned that I can also use baking soda. Have any of you tried it?

I've read about it. From what I understand you may want to follow it with an ACV - apple cider vinegar rinse to make sure you get all of the baking soda out and to balance the ph.

I did but I honestly found it to be too stripping. It has worked very well for several people. I also believe there was a technique called the "kiyafizzle" here: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=262381&highlight=kiyafizzle

Yeah, I believe a lot of ayurvedic powders are teas that you mix with hot water and are then used to cleanse the scalp, so I figured why not use regular teas :)

i use V05 clarifying conditioner or Hairveda Alma Cream Rinse or Deva Curl NO POO.

those are my favorites in order of preference.

i love them all, but V05 is the best to me based on price, availability and results.

Thanks. I was thinking about trying the vo5. Thanks for the tip.

Co-sign with most of the suggestions .... baking soda made my hair dry.

There are many many no-poo cleansers out there now.
silk dreams whip my hair
claudies 3 in 1
caludies jojoba cleanser
HydroQuench Systems coconut lime cleanser

My faves are

HV amala creme rinse
Terressentials mud wash (left coast lemon or pepermint)
rhassoul/bentonite clay
Apple Cider Vinegar (scalp cleanser)
Amla/shikakai powders

really, I feel that if you use natural products you can easily just rinse your hair with water and it will be pretty clean (u get that squeaky feeling). When I do that and then "wash" my hair with ACV (massage scalp and cleanse my hair with a downward pulling motion) I feel like my hair and scalp are pretty clean. using a no poo cleaner after that is just for conditioning purposes.
