Can oils penetrate past Cones

As a weekly heat user, I was wondering if there is any benefit in using avocado oil on my hair. If the heat protectant is creating a barrier, is it possible that the oil can't effectively get past it and into the hair shaft?

TIA!

In my mind, no. But I always here people who use coconut oil after they flat iron and what about those whose hair reverts when in humid conditions. Moisture must have gotten past the cones in order to do that right?

For my hair it couldn't the more creams/oil i would put on my hair after i flat-ironed, the more weighed down and dry it became....my hair was not getting anything from it. I started using grapeseed oil as an protectant (i know everyone doesn't feel comfortable with this)...and i didn't have that problem anymore.

I agree. Cones are not completely impenetrable just as PP said. But, I wouldn't fix what isn't broken. If you do choose to use oil, I'd use a tiny bit on the ends as maintenance during the week. I find the best results for me is simply a silicone based heat protectant spray. Oil weighs me down too much. I use heat weekly or biweekly.
