Cassia (Clear Henna)

I want to know too! I did a search yesterday but there seem to many types of clear and I don't know which is best.

I ordered some on Tuesday from HennaforHair, should be here soon. Since there hadn't been many posts on it I called Catherine and asked her the questions I had. I'm really excited about using it and will post my before and after pics :)

I have experience with it. I love it even more than regular henna. I bought mine from mehandi.com.

The cassia treatment left my hair shinier, thicker and my hair seemed to retain moisture better in the weeks following the cassia. The cassia was also very easy to use, I just mixed it with water, oil and yogurt, let it sit for 20 minutes and then put it on my hair and sat under a heat cap for one hour. It was a little stiff to put on but I realize now that I didn't have the consistency right (I made it like a paste, but next time will make it thinner). It took about 10 minutes to rinse it all out.

I could tell immediately that my hair felt thicker and better conditioned. HTH!

Same here. I also got ordered from mehandi.com.

I used it for the 1st time immediatly following a relaxer touchup. My hair did not have the same limpness that it has after a touchup. I cannot wait to use it again.

Also, cassia users can you share your mixtures. I mix an ounce of the powder with 4 oz. water and about a tablespoon of honey.

My mixture is coming out too watery, though. I need to increase the powder or decrease the water next time.

I know that it has been suggested to use CMC (Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose) to thicken
indigo paste. I wonder if that will work with cassia.

Or just try the regular gel pectin from the store, I use that in my indigo and it gives fantastic results...a perfectly spreadable paste of the right consistancy that rinses out easily.

you mean like the gelatin mix?

Pectin is the stuff you use to make canned jams and jellies...it helps give them a smooth consistancy and "gel up". I was surprised it worked so well!

I went to mehandi.com to buy some cassia and it suggested 500g if you have long hair that's $41.50:eek: Is this how much I have to use everytime? If so I will have to pass. Any sugesstions?

Personally, I don't think you need that much. I mean you do mic it with water and you get a lot.

If I were you, I would order 200g and try it out.

I mean at those prices, that's crazy. Besides, http://www.hennasooq.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=52 sells a wholesale sized 1kg for $55 and the shipping is free.

do you have to add anything to it? can you just use water? what do the other ingredients add? or is it just to help with drippiness? just curious.

I added oil and yogurt to mine because I heard that it made it easier to rinse it out and they added to the conditioning effect. However, the directions said to mix with water.

You can just add water. i only use honey because Surya henna included it in their kit. Today i am going to buy pectin to use in the henna.

Are you guys still getting good results with straight up Cassia or is it best to mix it with some regular henna for optimum results?

I used it today with plain nonfat yogurt. I had a much better experience with application and rinsing. It was a bit thick at 1st with 1 cup of the yogurt and 3 ounces of powder (actually 1 ounce cassia and 2 ounces of neutral Hennalucent) so I added about 2 ounces of hot water to thin it out.

I am using yogurt from now on, but I think I am going to try adding some honey or olive oil for extra conditioning.

I have a relaxer and bleached highlights. I'd like to try the cassia (clear henna) but I also want to try semi-perm rinses to change the color of my highlights....is this too much? I don't want to dammage my hair....how many washes does it take for the cassia to rinse out of the hair?

Cool!! I'm going to try this tonight on the left out hair (I have a sew-in). How long did you leave it in?

have you noticed less shedding/breakage? did you get a lot shine with it?

Well, I only used it with yogurt today, but cassia always has helped the condition of my hair. Adding in the yogurt made my hair feel softer after rinsing. In the past it took quite a few rinses for me to get all of the paste out. This time I just rinsed well once time and shampooed once and it was out and soft even before using conditoner.
