Is it just me or does it seem like they've been lurking on this board?

They really do! But I remember in the past Fabulaxer burned me bad:nono:

Now where in the h*ll were prices like these when I was relaxed, poor, and didn't care what relaxer I used?? I'da been in there scoopin em up like relaxers was about to go off the market! :lachen::lachen:

LMAO! Dang and I thought I got a sale when I bought ORS for $5.99. sunnieb I maybe posting in your relaxer thread soon. I already got my just in case relaxer sitting on the couch staring at me, :lachen::lachen::lachen:

/\ Me neither, I used whatever.
I now hunt down my Affirm relaxer like it's a safari!! I even flirted with the BSS owner to get him to sell it to me even though it's only for licensed professionals.

Receding lines? bald spots? Have never happened to me, relaxed hair doesn't have to be like that. But I get what some of you guys said, most people IRL who relax don't know how to take care of their hair.

I actually used this brand after I got my first job and was thrilled to be able to buy my own relaxers. :look:

It was cheap then too, and about all I could afford on my 4.50 per hour salary.

My mom and cousins shamed me out of using it because it was called African Pride...:perplexed: Poor young Prettybyrd, she was so misguided.

yeah it is silly that its called african pride. My mom used to use it on my hair in junior high, I remembered it smelling nice.
on another note, it is true relaxed hair doesn't have to be doom and gloom for everyone but it was for me. Maybe if I knew about the good brands I wouldn't have transitioned to natural. But I did and I love it

Umm, no. Even when I was relaxed I used professional relaxers. You get what you pay for. The few times I used boxed relaxers my hair was hard as a brick. That said, nothing would make me go back to relaxers. No matter what I did I ended up with chemical burns and my hair broke off. I think it may be due to my meds because I had a relaxer for 10+ years no problem and then all of a sudden my hair couldn't take them anymore.

True. I've seen some beautiful relaxed heads but I doubt they are using 99 cent African Pride!

That price is too suspect. They are trying to get rid of defective relaxers. I can just see the class action lawsuit now...

I used to use what I believe may be the most expensive (phytospecific) relaxer and I got it done by professionals at phytouniverse. Maybe my hair didn't break as fast as it did when I used soft and beautiful out of the box but it still broke off and when my hair decided it wasn't feeling relaxers anymore, it didn't care if the kit cost .99 cents or $60, my hair decided it was time to break off. I didn't experience a huge setback with relaxers like some, but my hair wasn't getting anywhere either.
For some of us, no matter how healthy our bodies are, what supplements we're taking, how much water we're drinking or fresh vegetables/fruit we're eating, our hair just doesn't like chemical straightening. Much love for the ladies who found the right relaxer for them, but I think for some of us there is no right relaxer.

I doubt there is anything wrong with these relaxers other than they are taking up space of the shelves and won't sell so this is their last-ditch effort. Desperation. Just having them taking up space on the shelves and not selling is costing them because they could be using that space for something that would actually sell.

It just dawned on me while looking at that pic....if relaxers take the "Africa" out of your hair....why put "Africa" or "African" anything as the brand name of the relaxer? Isn't that crazy?

And no...i'll pass on the chemical burns:nono:

I know right, then got "Pride"...lol

99 cent? That's a rip-off, they probably old and they just tryna get rid of them asap.

Wow. Well. I loved your long healthy relaxed hair and still thought you were African American. Jussayin...

I never buy my relaxers at a local BSS. I don't trust them to be within the usage dates. I don't care if it was for $0.01. I'll stick to ordering directly from the company online or Sally's. Yep...I'm bougie that way! lol.

Same here. My relaxed hair wasn't a disaster, and if I'd known about healthy hair practices, I'd have been TBL in a twinkle! I was always between APL, and BSL not doing anything extra for my hair. If not for my hair falling out due to postpartum shedding, I never would have gone natural...but now I am, and I don't want to go back either. :yep:

I didn't take her statement the same way. I thought its kinda silly to name a product that is used to make our hair permanently straight mimicing European hair something like African Pride of all things. That relaxer is a contradiction, and that doesn't take away from anyone who uses that or any other relaxer. IMO

Not gonna lie. Many moons ago I would have jumped on that. All I used were box relaxers from wal-mart and such places. I had issues because I never relaxed correctly (using too strong of strength, root to tip, other bad practices). Had I been here during my relaxed days I most like would have transitioned to better relaxer practices and products instead.

I'm glad I'm natural now and wouldnt go back to relaxing. Not because of damage, but because I'm lazy lol

This is sad if this is the one in Dallas I know exactly where it is. It use to be a Target. That sucka is huge. I get tired walking in that joint looking at stuff. I mean it's like a football field lined with products and accessories. I can't be left alone in that one for long.
