Has anyone had this problem? If so please name the relaxer that did it and when did you notice it started drying your hair out.

Mizani BB did this to me, unfortunately I didn't notice it was drying my hair out until my 5th or 6th application. I always atrributed the dryness to being undermoisturized.

Really...I've been using Mizani BB for 2 years now I'm curious if others are experiencing this as well. What relaxer do you use now OP?

Affirm no-lye made my hair like straw. My stylist switched to this without telling me beforehand. That was when I decided to become a self-relaxer.

Design Essentials Sensative Scalp leaves my hair soft and silky! :yep:

I'm still on the search for a good relaxer. I used Dark and Lovely healthy gloss and it seemed okay. I'd heard a lot of good things about Phytospecific Index II but I heard it was EXTREMELY difficult to neutralize so I did a test run and used it on one of my hair mannequins and sure enough it was EXTREMELY hard to neutralize so I never used it.

Linange Alter Ego Shea Butter Relaxer was THE BEST relaxer I've ever used. My hair felt incredible and the shine was unmatched to most popular lines.

i have to do some research on this! i want to switch to Mizani Butter Blends. Mizani Regular is ok, but think i need something for my fine, color treated hair.

Is mizani bb a no lye relaxer? If so, it could be a calicium build up. Try using a chelating shampoo like ors creamy aloe.

Mizani BB has a lye and no lye formula (called sensitive scalp). The lye version is the best relaxer I've ever used.

I use the Mizani Sensitive Scalp (not BB version) and it's no-lye. It's okay. It does the job. BB is more moisturizing it just doesn't process me enough for me taste.

Oh no I was just gonna try Mizani BB for the first time for my next texlax :-(

BB is perfect for texlaxers. It's not so hot for those who want it a bit straighter. The majority of reviews I've read (as well as my experience) is that BB underprocesses, but the hair is strong, soft, and moisturized.

Oh that sounds perfect for me! Thanks

Mizani BB no-lye dried my hair out something awful. I used it happened with the 4th application. I am going back to lye relaxer but I am clueless of which one to try.

When I first started using Affirm Fiberguard No-Lye relaxer it dried my hair out after my first application. I didn't notice it until a few weeks later.

I did some research and realized that it was calcium build up caused by no-lye relaxers in general. So ever since I've neutralized with a chelating/neutralizing Shampoo (Mizani Phormula 7). And I started using a deep conditioner with ceramides in it (Nexxus Humectress).

That was 2 years ago and I haven't had that problem since.

HTH.

SUPER-DUPER OT!! > i don't relax obviously but i just had to say i found the thread title funny. it's phrased like an invite to something glorious and fun but the content of it is pretty off-putting. i was like "oh how exciting!!" then, "oh... but why would anyone want a relaxer that dried out their hair?"

just me then? ok, carryon :p :look:

No-lye relaxers including ORS and Optimum Care salon collection both regular and super strengths. No-lye relaxers always leave my hair dry and breaking off. They also leave my hair stiff and stuck to my head and looks like I am wearing a helmet.

On the contrast my hair just responds better to lye relaxers. My hair has movement (which it never does), moisturizes easily, and looks prettier and healthier.

I will never use a no-lye relaxer again.

I hope it doesn't have that effect on my hair. I am relaxing with it tomorrow.

affirm lye made my hair dry and thin. They have now changed formulas, but I'm not tempted to go back to it. I also see that mizani has a new formula of the butterblends lye, this always underprocessed my hair, but it was always healthy shiny and strong.

I don't know what brand my stylist uses but I think it's no lye. And while it gets pretty straight, it has movement and is shiny. I've also found that if I use Nexxus as a leave in, it feels very moisturized.

Why do people experience different reactions??

Does anyone know is all no lyes are the one's you mix together? I think I may have had lye when I first started (no mixing) and then when I went to someone else and told them I have itchy scalp problems, they used No lye (mixing before applying) and I did not burn anymore.

I am pretty sure that a sylist would not use a box relaxer that you can get from walmart, maybe it has to do with the quality of the no-lye relaxer being used. I have been using the box relaxers where you have to mix them yourself. Very unsatisfied with the results so far. When I wake up my hair is stiff, always appears/is dry, and is stuck to my head (helmet hair:nono:). I used the leave in provided in the box kit and the other time I used my own leave in, still the same results.

I finally figured out that it was the relaxer. I have heard of better higher quality no-lye where other ladies are getting great result but I am switching to lye. I am not worried about the tingling/burning because they both burn me either way.

Ok this may seem like a dumb question but where do you find lye relaxers? Cause all I've ever seen is no-lye everywhere I go.

African pride is the best relaxer I ever had and when I bought it the first time I messed up and got super but my hair didn't break. It was soo soft and healthy

Every other relaxer I had was not worth the money i'm still trying to finish off that double pack of relaxers my sis bought for me

Also anyone try triple gro relaxers? I wanna try it

Relaxers stopped drying out my hair when I switched to Silk Elements (w/ Lye). Going from "super" (for my coarse hair) to "medium-strength" also improved its strength.

Not relaxed now, but just saying. ;)

African Pride is what I was using for the longest time. Years.

Silk Elements can be found at Sally's Beauty. I don't know where Mizani can be found. It's been recommended to me a dozen times though.

Most privately owned beauty supply stores carry lye relaxers.

This is my experience. I use the BB for fine/color treated hair and my hair thrives and loves it. ( sodium hydroxide is the ingredient which I believe is lye)... Doesn't dry it out at all.

I also use their PH chelating/neutralizing shampoo ( phormula 7) after for proper PH control after relaxing followed by a ceramide reconstructed ( optimum fortifying conditioner).

Motions (lye) makes my hair feel nice too but seriously under-processed it for years. I followed with their mid step conditioner and neutralizing shampoo too.

No lye box perms (any brand... Optimum not as much) make my hair feel like straw, especially retouched which may be due to calcium build up,
