Ok this may seem like a dumb question but where do you find lye relaxers? Cause all I've ever seen is no-lye everywhere I go.

African pride is the best relaxer I ever had and when I bought it the first time I messed up and got super but my hair didn't break. It was soo soft and healthy

Every other relaxer I had was not worth the money i'm still trying to finish off that double pack of relaxers my sis bought for me

Also anyone try triple gro relaxers? I wanna try it

Local BSS- most of the jar no mix perms are lye. Look for sodium hydroxide as the main ingredient. Always by the accompany neutralizer as different relaxers have different PH levels. To me that's the only time one should differently by within the same product family.

Every. Single. No-lye.

Every single boxed, no-lye relaxer I used dried me out. I've tried nearly all of them over the years. Even when I learned about better haircare practices (chelating, extra neutralizing step, and frequent DC's) I still experienced too much breakage.

It wasn't until I discovered the difference between lye and no-lye. Lye relaxers are so much better for my hair. Now that I've fallen in love with Linange..I'm set.

When I was relaxed I loved Design Essentials low lye because it did not dry my hair out. It did not get my hair bone straight. My hair is resistant to just about everything so if I left it on for the time stated in the instructions it just texlaxed me. Have you tried/considered adding a tablespoon of oil or some conditioner to your relaxer?

I didn't have that problem with Mizani BB, just had a hard time getting my hair straight.
Anyway, the no-lyes definitely seem more drying to me. Switching to lye, almost 10 years ago, made a difference in my hair.

Any lye that really straighten hair? My hair is really resistant and lye relaxers haven't been able to straighten my hair enough. But I used Designer Touch no-lye and it straightened my hair didn't burn but did dry me out. Will it have to be one or the other?

Over the weekend I bought Silk Elements Lye Relaxer with Olive Oil. They actually have two versions, Olive Oil and Shea Butter. I avoided the Shea Butter one because Shea Butter does weird things to my hair like makes it hard. Olive Oil has always been good to me. Silk Elements also has a no lye version which is a boxed relaxer. The Lye version comes in a tub. Give me about 12 weeks and I'll try to report back since I just has a recent relaxer. I'm hoping it does the job though. I bought the whole kit, The Lye relaxer, the neutralizing shampoo and conditioner at Sallys.

Mizani no-lye dried my hair out like crazy, but my hair was accustomed to lye for nearly 18 yrs. No lye is gentle on the scalp, but very drying to hair (hence the epidemic of chronic hair breakage amongst black women using box relaxers, which are almost always no lye), and lye can burn the scalp more quickly, but keeps the hair with more moisture.

My go-tos for quite a long time were the lye relaxers Clairol Textures & Tones, Optimum Multimineral Relaxer System, and Silk Elements Lye. I only used mild formulas, no matter how much NG I had, and went as long as 6 months between touch-ups.

Silk Elements Lye is a wonderful relaxer. It really doesn't seem to have caused any damage to my hair, even using it repeatedly on the same areas (my curls are resistant).
