Natural Hair Overkill?

Your method may help someone, so please make the video. There are a lot of natural videos, but not all are good videos.

Oh, I would love to see your YT videos with your beautiful hair!! I enjoy looking at hair videos in general & everyone has a different personality and different ways of presenting their videos. I really enjoy the more professional videos, but the simple ones are nice too. The ones I don't like have long intros, rambling, unpleasant music are too long. Even with all of the videos out there, I have yet to come across anyone who has similar hair to mine.

Your posts are not catty, combative, botchie, rude, condesending, or annoying, so I would watch your YT video's.

Some video's, their voice may be annoying (to me) or something about them just irks me and I pull up another video or just turn it off. It's the same with tv shows. I have 200+ cable channels but I can't find anything to watch

HD camera, professional quality transitions, concise commentary, etc. are what set the best YT'rs apart. Being relatively attractive with a big personality is desirable too. Being a glam girl or having unique fashion sense is also another huge plus. Seems like most YouTube greats specialize in one or more of these areas.

Oh, the only other thing I would add is that you have to know who you are when making the video. If you try to get a step by step on how the video should be made from 1000 women on LHCF you will go insane

I personally hope that if you invest your time (which is money), money (camera), and skills on YT, that someone spots you and offers you a tv show that pays you 50k-100k per episode It may not be your intention but your just as pretty as the woman on the Herbal Essence commerical.

Also, since a lot of the Yt'ers have partnered with YT and recieve ad dollars, shy shouldnt you? Why wouldnt I want a sister to get paid .40 cents from a Geico ad that Yt got $20 for?

I will say what my husband always says whenever I have questions about something: check out MULTIPLE SOURCES. One, two, or even three sources are never enough. I've saved multiple natural youtube videos, photo albums, threads, and blogs to use as sources when I go natural. Everyone's method is a little bit different, and multiple views will allow me to find the method that works for me. I say go for it. Besides, EVERYONE will listen to someone who has the proof of their labor hanging down their back like you!

Yes, there is.

But my primary reason for watching someone no matter if they do the same thing as the next person or not really depends on personality, video qualities, what I like about their hair etc. There is room for everyone, but whether you'll be fairly successful at that depends on a whole other range of factors. You need to stand out or bring in a new technique etc that can be helpful to others.

I do think the market is saturated, but I would watch YOUR videos because I love our personality. I only really watch SistaTV and Naptural85 because I enjoy their videos.

I'm a little bit confused about the question. From reading the question, it sounds like you're asking if there's too much natural hair? I can't make sense of the question. To me, that's like asking if there's too many black people. I'm confused.

However, if we're talking about YouTube, then I honestly don't have an opinion either way. If we want to be serious about it, the invention of "regular" people being able to broadcast everything and all their feelings has been overkill from the get-go. Everyone and their mother has a blog, Facebook page, and Twitter account, and honestly, I don't care about McDonalds putting ketchup on your burger when you asked them not to. People love to hear themselves talk, period. I just choose not to listen if I don't feel like.

Your hair journey is very inspirational. Yes, there are a lot of naturals on YT, but not so many that have made the journey from TWA to the longer lengths like BSL and beyond. I would definitely watch your videos, I'm sure lots of other people would too

i LOVE finding new folks on youtube. i think that there are enough blogs though. i have found that the longer and healthier my hair has gotten the less likely i am to be wowed by hair.

I remember seeing one where the background was messy and it nearly put me off but I ended up getting some good tips from it. I don't work for 'clean house' or 'The Amanda's' so I couldn't GAF what the house looks like. If you have pretty hair, good tips and your styling game is on point, Imma watch your vids regardless whether you have vacuumed or not

I'm reading this thread with interest, because it's the exact same reason why it took me so long to get my makeup blog and videos out there... I was like Man... it's all been done..

I'm chiming in late but as an early poster said there is room for better quality vids. Also there is a market for thin haired, long haired naturals. Most of the thin haired naturals on YT, in fact maybe all of them, have short hair. The popular ones are thick, well at least thicker than mine. Their hairstyles do not look the same on me. On me, those styles make my hair look anorexic. I was thinking about doing a channel for hairstyles for thin haired naturals but it's not my thing. But I would like to see more thin haired girls. Thin as in, my natural hair looks thinner that when yours is relaxed. I have never had a puff in my life. Apologies if this has already been said

I am ALWAYS on the hunt for the lesser known, diamond in the "rough" YTers. Whether its makeup, natural hair styling, flat ironing, etc. I think most women like to switch up their styles and try new things so I am always looking for inspiration. I am a quality snob as I am a semi-professional photographer, so you immediately get points for a good quality camera. I'm not talking mega bucks, I just need to be able to see/hear you clearly.

Most recently I decided to flat iron my hair and wear more straightish styles and I have found a great crop of naturals that flat iron. Its also made me realize that I can wear my straight har too and not be locked into wearing it curly all the time.

All that to say, PLEASE do continue to upload your videos! Like others have said you never know what someone may get out of seeing how you style your particular type of hair, which is GORG by the way!

I feel you though because I just started on the YT thing and honestly thought about giving up because I felt like you everything has been done to death. But after watching so many videos I felt like making them and that I could bring something to the table.

If your doing it for the fun of it like me or to share your journey with others. Why not?

It really is food for thought. When something catches on (blackplanet, myspace, facebook, blogging, youtube, twitter, etc.) people just automatically flock. Then when it gets saturated, people get the feeling it's time to move on.

Youtube is my thing, I love it. My videos are poor quality done with a cheap camera, and I am having a good time. I love to respond to my favorite you tubers, enter contest, and comment. Youtube is for everyday people with a camera, sharing their world too. Recently, I watched a wig review where her child kept needing something, the wig was tilted to the side, no editing, poor make up, and greasy; I believed her, and subbed. That video was great!

Old youtube stars, rely on style, and lose freshness. There is a big wide open space on youtube for the old low quality dirty youtube. Rich barbies, Fake natural gurus, and professional entertainers are there, but the 'real' you tube movement is growing.
Example from me, just put out my hair cut video, and left me combing my nappy hair for two minutes in the video-on purpose. We all talk about our detangling techniques, but we do what we need to do. My style is weird, my hair is crazy, I say some strange stuff, cheap camera, and odd editing. The only thing I have to offer is that I am trustworthy and do extensive research before I address my audience. Oh, youtube invited me my to enter the partner program in my second month on the Yt with 200 subscribers, and I still have low video views.

It's so much easier to watch a 3-5 minute video than to click through years of photos on Fotki or something.

I don't really care about HD cameras and glam. Just don't talk too much.. heck I watch my videos on mute anyway.

I love this post @Seamonster. I miss that old Youtube where everyone was just being themselves without the glitz, but I've realized that certain characteristics are aspects of certain people's personalities. It's just not mine.

I have never made a video. I have thought about it, but I feel that there are other people's videos that will suffice when I need to show someone a visual about styling, maintenance etc.

I find it interesting to hear about what's currently going on in various social media as it relates to our "special interests." I may need to write a dissertation one day lol.
