Hi Ladies

I am feeling down and need some encouragement :(

I just touched up today and I feel like I lost a lot of hair in the process. I was talking to the bf while relaxing so I feel I was not as hurried as I should have been and I accidentally over processed. I mixed a lot of olive oil in the relaxer and I had Vaseline on my strands to protect them so why did my hair come out so straight?

I have been texlaxing since the beginning of my hair journey and I feel I have multiple lines of demarcation now  My hair is so flat and extra soft and I don't know what to do.

I roller set after the dc but it was so fluffy and not bouncy. It is wrapped now though under a scarf because I'm not going out tonight.

Any advice please?

I personally find my hair to be more "flat" after my relaxer (I don't texlax). I find that after about a week or two my hair is back to being bouncy and not as flat as relaxer day.

What about the loss of hair? I lost a lot. Do you self relax and is this normal? I don't remember losing so much before...

If you have over-processed do a protein treatment in the next few days, and wear protective styles.

I'd also recommend that you stretch for your next retouch to make sure your strands are strengthend.

I normally relax every 12 weeks do you think I should go for 16 then?

Just when I thought I had the hair thing figured out :nono:

Hi Lurkee,

I am 2 weeks post and my hair JUST came back to its normal texlaxed texture this week. Even though I washed several times since relaxing and coated with vaseline like you did. And for sure the stylist didn't touch my ends. So I have no clue but don't give up hope. I used the Aphogee 2 minute three days post as well.

Your newgrowth may have been all tangled up with shed hair that would have come out when the relaxer loosened them. There's a thread on here about after relaxer care that you can check out. I'm sure you're going to be fine :)

Thank you for putting my mind at ease. I will be patient for two weeks and see if it improves.

I meant if you over-processed wait until your strands have recovered before your next touch-up. If your hair still feels weak at 12 weeks then wait a few more weeks before you touchup.

@Lurkee, my hair is always flat and soft after a TU. I lose a good bit of hair during the TU process also but my stylist will advise if it's breakage or shedding, most always it's shedding. Like @lovebug10 mentioned, the hair should thicken back up (not be as flat) within a few weeks. I always protein treat 1x post. I use reconstructors instead of hardcore protein treatments - Ion Effective Care, Joico Kpak or SSI Okra.

I self relaxed a couple of weeks ago and my process was borrowed from a member here againstallodds. I don't have the link to her blog post & video on how she does it but I do have my own pictorial:

The pre-parting and sectioning made all the difference for me as well as only doing one half at a time. I personally relax straight but AgainstAllOdds (Jeni) texlaxes and her texlaxed texture is gorgeous! Hopefully she'll be able to come in and give you those links.

As for your hair now being too straight, how about using a sulfur oil? They recommend not using it for a week after you relax because it is known to cause reversion. I do think I actually experienced this at the beginning of my HHJ. And lastly for the breakage - did you do a protein treatment before and during or right after your process? If not, that could be the difference too.

divachyk Thank you for the reply. I think I am back to being relaxed rather than texlaxed though. Maybe this is better in the long run instead of having multiple textures but my hair is very fine and not thick so I enjoyed the illusion of thickness being underprocessed gave me. :spinning:

I will use 2 min next weekend instead of 2 step. What do you think?

EbonyCPrincess I think 3 weeks ago I did a 2 step and 2 weeks after that I used CPR as well so I think I have done quite a few protein treatments leading up to the process. I am thinking of increasing my stretch to 16 weeks this time around to avoid over processing.

Thank you all for the advice.

@Lurkee, the 2 min would be a great start. You can always step it up to the 2 step if you feel the 2 min didn't give you the protein boost needed. I'd prefer to start mild and work my way up to hardcore because protein overload is something serious.

:thankyou: for the link. againstallodds Your texlaxed hair is gorgeous. I will check out your blog on how to get consistent results texlaxing. I am very clumsy and the half and half method scares me. I feel like I would still manage to get the other side wet some how. :ohwell:

Lurkee My pleasure.

Thanks! Getting the front half wet terrified me when I first started self-relaxing using the half/half method. I've found that placing the clips along the part helps the cap sit in the part, forming a tight seal. I've yet to get the front half wet while rinsing and washing out the back *fingers cross this remains the case!* :yep::yep:

I will definitely try it next relaxer and let you know how I get on. :yep: I think the pre-sectioning with the clips is genius and would definitely help cut down application time. I also read up on one of Sista Slick's articles on Texlaxing and I am going to change to a milder relaxer as well. I currently use ORS no-lye in regular but I am thinking of trying mizani butter blends.

Anyways, sorry for rambling and thank you for the tips.
