Natural Hair Straw Set (PICS Inside)

Hey everyone. I just wanted to share. I attempted a straw set the other night and I like how it came out. Let me know what you think!

zzirvingj I took a break when rolling, maybe for like an hour and a half. In total, I think it took me between 1-1.5 hours (I go by how many episodes of my daughters's Mickey Mouse show played; I think I heard 2-3 episodes!)

I "set it" under the dryer for about an hour and then slept in the straws overnight.

Since this was my first time doing it, it took a little while to get into a rhythm. I think next time it should go by faster, especially if I don't wait until the evening to get started!

beana At first, I was taking the pins out and then sliding the straw down/out. But, after a while, I realized I could slide the straws out, by kinda pushing the "curl/hair" up and sliding the straw down, all at the same time. The pins weren't really close to my scalp so I didn't have issues with it snagging my hair when sliding the straws out. This made it go by much faster. I still had to search for all of the hair pins tho!

Yep, I separated the curls to get a fuller look. Most I just pulled apart once. Some (the ones where I was lazy and rolled way too much hair) I pulled apart maybe 3 times.

eta: How long did it take to dry?

sipp100 I sat under the dryer for about an hour, to at least let the heat help with "setting" the curls. I then went to bed for about 4-5 hours (talk about a late night) before having to wake up to get ready for work. I've learned, I cannot airdry my hair when it's rolled up...makes for a poofy mess! I have to apply indirect heat (under the dryer) for at least an hour.

Yep, I thought it was going to take much longer, looking at how thin straws are. But, after a while, I got into a nice rhythm with the rolling. I think having my hair already sectioned also helped with the overall perception of how long it was going to take.
