Sadly, it comes from other blacks. I usually get the "articulate" "complements" from whites though. In their defense, most of them actually though I was much younger than I am. Once they realize I'm not early 20 something, they don't harp on it. Actually many assume I have an advance degree of some sort. I'm not sure where they get that from.

Wow...I've gotten the 'she thinks she's cute' from my fellow sisters at the worst  but never the 'you're white-washed spill.'

Also, maybe it's because in grade school I was the only black girl... (shrug) Hmm yeah, but even my college professor told me, 'You articulate yourself so well' :look: and even some of my friends jokingly said,

But have you noticed that anytime you ( a woman of color) do something well/achieve/are pretty/very athletic people in general are just going to want to attach themselves to you somehow?:look:

IE when a black excels in school people attach, 'oh she wants to be white.' Like a claim that you doing well is a part of white culture.

Or my favorite, is when a black woman is pretty, other races want to claim her, 'you're mixed right?' 'There's no way you're completely black, got --- in your blood?' Just observations :yep:

That, I have gotten several times. From, "you're not dark like an African, are you mixed?" to, "Are you mixed with Latin, Spanish, etc, etc." :nono::look:

Yeah I hate that. Some people seem to have it in their mind that all Black people come in ONE color: dark. And any of us who aren't crayon brown are mixed.

Yup. A few weeks ago, some of my asian friends asked if I had Cambodian in me. I told them I'm just Black but they were like, 'nope, you're asian some where, look at those eyes.'

And I was like 'what the----!?' Shoot...I had to google a map to even find where Cambodia was! :lachen:

I think perception and stereotypes play a role in how something is received in terms of groups. I think it's fascinating that when blacks deviate from their expected paths (facetiously meaning blacks who "read too much," "speak white," etc), they're trying to be white. Yet whites can appropriate things from black culture and it's a-okay (excluding "wiggers," they catch hell).

I have seen this before :yep:

Hold up. She copied the post from the board that shall not be named?

:perplexed

I don't think long hair has anything to do with being white - there are plenty of woman and men in the Caribbean with waist length dread locks.
Dreadlocks is long because is shed hair trapped since it doesnt"fall out" it locs itself creating lenght ,but thats not because the hair itself is that long .
I rather use as an example the Many women on hair boards such as this with really long "loose" healthy hair .:yep: Wanting long hair just means that ,i dont understand why black people always overanalyze everything .

yes i want to be white, yes i think i'm better than you because i speak "proper" and yes i want white girl hair, of all the beautiful thick black hair in other cultures, I want to aspire to the stringy, limp, lifeless, fly away hair.(only some, but basically what I see. I rarely see healthy yt or any hair for that matter.) So what's it to you?

Did ya'll here the one about the black guy who wanted to be white?

On day this black guy came into this antique shop and purchased an old Vase. he took it home and cleaned it off as he was wiping it a puff of smoke begain coming out of the vase and a Genie appeared.

The Genie said, I will grant you one wish.
The black guy knew what he wanted and without hesitation he wished, "I WANNA BE WHITE UPTIGHT AND OUTTA SIGHT!!!!!!"

The Genie said, "Poof, you're a tampon!"

Moral of the story Careful what you wish for

Same with working hard in school..I worked my butt off to get where I am, and someone telling me that I wanna be white is sure as hell not going to stop me!
Neither is calling me a geek...neek...nerd..bleek (black geek)...blerd (you can guess)..boffin....boff..
OK imma stop...getting a bit bitter here LOL

me and my sis get the bolded ALL the time or my fave is your pretty for a black girl

I have to say that since I've gotten older, like out of my early teen years, I've never had anyone accuse me of acting/wanting to be white. Maybe my white friends know better because they wouldn't dare say anything out of the side of their mouth and my maternal family members have long gotten out of the habit of calling me valley girl.

I wonder why people keep up with this antiquated idea of what each race must do or want...

why is this back in the hair forum?

are we gonna address people stealing entire posts from another forum? That's just sad. I wonder if they are the same person and she doesn't mind plagiarizing herself? Either way, you still have to cite your source.

It's not the same person :nono: And I wholeheartedly agree with the bolded.

I love how a topic can change at the drop of a hat on lhcf lol! And yes, because of how I speak, sure. For having long hair? Not at all...

While I agree that she should've cited the source if she's going to use it word for word; how is what she did any different from them?

They come over here and grab stuff to go over there and talk about people over here......:perplexed.

I don't think it's a big a deal to address it in my opinion, I suspect Dauiel was sent to do their dirty work; lets not give it any credence by stooping to their level.

Nobody sent me, I just thought it was weird :ohwell: I wouldn't like it if someone used my post and acted like it was their own words. And in my opinion, using someone else's post as if it were your own thoughts on a subject is not the same as gossiping about people. Obviously no one likes being gossiped about, but it doesn't make it right to take their posts either. I'm just saying.

I agree, I'd be pissed beyond pistivity too especially since it was one hell of a post BUT the fact still remains that the thread that it was posted in over there, you did not post in. The original poster noticed her post over here and said something over there. I understand you were addressing a pet peeve but reality is you bring it up over here is adding fuel to "their" fire.

You are just an innocent pawn in their game; which we on here don't care to play.

I understand your point of view. But it doesn't matter to me. I'm not going to ignore the fact that the post was copied and pasted just because of how I found out. Yes, the original poster did notice her words being used and that is how I became aware of the situation. You can call me whatever you like. If the LHCF member had used an original thought rather than someone else's, we wouldn't be having this conversation and they'd have to find something else to talk about

I'm amazed. I managed to get through life reading, using proper grammar, getting good grades, going to college, growing my hair long, etc., and not once have I been accused of wanting to be white, talking white, acting white, or anything of the sort.

Why oh why can't I be a magical negro?

yeah, i was just about to say. i lived in the hood too. i did spend most of my time with other nerdy black kids. i guess that sheltered me

i'm sorry, but locs shed too. i don't understand where people get this notion from. locs are matted hairs that form into a lock.

Dreadlocks is long because is shed hair trapped since it doesnt"fall out" it locs itself creating lenght ,but thats not because the hair itself is that long .

i was gonna just post about the topic in the OP and bounce but i might just stick around this thread for a bit :look:

:perplexed...what did I call you Daeuiel...please don't make this into something it's not.

i didn't get that either until we moved to another town. i didn't understand the life of me why we moved there. the house was lovely, but i believe my parents didn't do enough homework. my third day of school, i had to fight. being in that neighbor was hell on earth.
