Some protein dc's make my hair really soft (like ORS Mayo and Replenishing Conditioner). So, is it really necessary to follow up with a moisture dc if it makes my hair feel soft? And plus, isn't the ORS Replenishing Conditioner a Balanced one? If so, why follow-up with moisture? TIA.

I only use protein DCs. They make my hair very moisturized. The only problem I run into is that sometimes the protein in my leave ins is too much, so i'll use moisturizing ones just for a day or two

I do both to make sure that I don't have a problem. However, if you are happy with the results you could alternate.

I typically don't, but that is because I usually use light proteins like Aubrey Organics Glycogen Protein Balancing Conditioner. That stuff is fabulous! It puts many regular moisturizing conditioners to shame.

The quick answer is, it depends on the strength of the protein.

If it's a protein/moisture mix, like AO GPB, and your hair doesn't feel hard or stiff after using it, then I see no reason to follow with a moisturizing DC. Some people's hair does feel hard after these treatments, but it doesn't sound like yours is one of them.

For a harder protein, like Aphogee 2-step, Mega-tek, Joico KPak, Nexxus Emergencee, etc., then yes I would follow with a moisture DC.

It depends on how my hair feels after rinsing. Im using more reconstructors these days instead of the hard core treatments and I don't follow up with a moisture dc.

If the protein condish also has moisturizing properties then I don't. However if it is just protein (e.g. Aphogee 2 min, aphogee 2 step) then I will.

I just try to be very conscious of what I'm putting in my hair... if I used ORS Mayo to DC then I will choose a leave-in that is very moisturizing.

HTH.

If it's a hard protein treat only then definitely. But more often than not my DC is mixed to give me the benefit of both moisture & protein.

At the beginning of my journey when I was trying to get my protein and moisture levels balanced, one week I would pre-poo with a protein condish, then DC with a moisturizing condish and the next week I would reverse it.

But now I really only follow with moisture after a hard protein or reconstructor. I've also learned to read my hair so much better now, so I typically just listen to my hair and only do what it needs.

I typically follow the directions because I hate jumping in and out of the shower to double DC :nono:.
And I think only my Aphogee 2 step and Nexxus emergencee instruct you to use a moisture DC afterwards. I use those once a month, then alternate protein/moisture DC after each wash the rest of the month.

i do my favorite combo right now is hdyratherma naturals protein amino something other and silk dreams vanilla silk moisture dream.

Zaz, I follow the directions too. Like I know a lot of people that will dc for hours and overnight, but if it tells me to leave on for 15 mins, that's what I'mma do. LOL. And I also hate jumping in and out of the shower!

I always follow up with a moisturizing Dc after protein treatments even if its mild.

Hey yall, isn't there a difference between a protein conditioner and a protein treatment? Like aren't the treatments heavier proteins?

Normally I don't have to because I avoid heavy proteins and instead, use light proteins with moisturizing ingredients. Right now, I use Aphogee 2 Minute for protein and mix it with my moisturizing DC.

I love this conditioner...i actually have it on my hair now.

Great Thread OP, I definitely use it for hard proteins. Like Toy I use it after even the mild ones. I don't skip on my DC's.

I am going to try just using the ORS Pak *I have plenty to use up, but that acts more as moisture for my hair. I will still try to do it and not DC and see what happens.

Yes I do. Even the lightest protein conditioners leave my hair a little hard. I always follow with a super moisturizing conditioner regardless of the protein though.

i do not do this any more. what i like to do is dry dc with a mild protien treatment, shampoo and then follow up with a very moisturizing rinse out. this has been giving me excellent results without hopping in and out the shower.
