What Hair products/practises Do you reckon are one big :nono: ?, Looking for one's that particularly make you cringe when you see or read about them.

When someone combs their hair by starting with the roots instead of the ends, I just cringe...I can just hear the hair being ripped out

forcing the comb through the hair making it snap, crackle, and pop! Same story with braiding and forcing your fingers through (I'm guilty of this and I've paid the price)

Naturals combing dry hair.
More than two passes with the flatiron. Especially on max heat. So unnecessary.

Practices:
Relaxing every 3 or 4 weeks, overlapping relaxer, leaving relaxer on for too long, never conditioning (yes I know people that do this!)

Products:
Anything with mineral oil and petroleum

Flat ironning hair without heat protection.
No manipilation to the extreme,..letting your hair go until it's matted together from root to tip and you are not trying to have dredlocks.

Relaxing and coloring in the same day. I have a friend that used to do that. It's a wonder she has hair on her head today. :perplexed

If it were me I would be straight bald.:look:

Co-signing with the combing from root to end.

Hehe I used to do something similar...Relax one day, bleach the next week. Repeatedly. I didn't lose hair and my head didn't seem very damaged perhaps because it's so coarse and low porosity, but nonetheless it is a very unhealthy practice. :nono:

When people unbraid/untwist/detangle their hair and don't start from the very bottom of the strands so then that knot forms at the bottom and hair is lost. Then complain about their thin ends. :nono: :lachen:

when people just on bandwagons with a quickness. Seriously, i see some one make a thread about such and such vitamin made my hair grow half a inch a month, a vitamin no one has heard of, and literally the first comment is, "off to order some right now" with that annoying yep emoticon. Why are you ordering it? ask yourself if you dont already get half a inch a month anyways.

Everything you all said!

Plus:

Wearing braids for too long (individuals and cornrows whether it's your hair or extensions).

Dominican blowouts. I know many ladies have raved about them, but hearing the process of all that heat, tugging and pulling the more new growth you have, or if you're natural... that just makes me cringe.

That stocking cap under a wig. That was major damage to my edges. A satin or silk one seems to be better (so far).

The fried chicken sensation when someone flat irons their hair (either hair is wet or too much product). :nono:

That scene in Color purple when the baby girl is screaming cus Whoopie is combing her dry hair, I can't take it!!!

THIS! Detangling my hair wet and without running water. It's like an addiction, I have to practically slap myself and knock the brush out of my hand. I get out of the shower and start swanging my hair around and I forget who I am. Whyyeeeeee!?

Oh, and tight ponytails. I've finally conquered that habit though.

What's a dominican blow out? oh and do you have any site suggestion from which one can buy satin/silk wig caps?

It's when they blow out your hair, then flat iron it (multiple times, often too many times) to get it straight, sometimes after the flat iron, they will blow it out again, then they use the flat iron or culring iron to add a little curly or bump to it.

Applying a relaxer to the entire head during a touch up.

pulling uncombed, tumbleweed dry hair into a tangled pony tail.

applying that brown gel to uncombed, undetangled hair just to get that "slicked back" look

flat ironing with so much grease that the hair doesnt move and picks ups fuzzes and lint.

cornrows that are done so tight and so frequently that there is nothing but scalp in between the braids.

all these things make me uneasy.

:covereyes that sounds like torture :nono:

Detangling my hair wet. Bad move, the ironic thing was I couldn't figure out WHY I was losing so much hair.

Shea moisture bandwagon.

Tangle teezer and denman brushes, my hair just hate brushes PERIOD!

People who insist on going to a stylist that practices bad habits then posting that "she scalped me."
