Very Nice! the hair texture is very natural and the cut and length look really good on you. The bang area is a little full so you may or may not want to thin it out a little.

Did you get it done in NY?

I like it, I think you may have to just get use to the "look" of the full sew-in and that you can see scalp. They may not always look as natural looking as when hair is left out, but the benefit of retaining all your growth will be a wonderful payoff. :) thanks for this post, I've been debating getting a sew-in, but looking at your hair, I think I'm going to get mine in the next week or so. :)

I didn't. If I were in NYC, Lee would have hooked me up and I don't think there would be any issue whatsoever. I got it done here in ATL. She did a great job with the install, super comfortable with that. And the hair is great...I'm just not 100% happy with this style. And when I first got it done, I couldn't put my finger on just what it was that wasn't making me happy.

I think the ladies are right that it is the heavy bang that is bothering me. Now, I just have to find someone that can work on that area for me. Sigh. Makes me miss NYC that much more :ohwell:

Welllllzzz if I am to be honest, its the fact that theres no hair left out and you got the dreaded "swoop" going on, which to me is only passable on short cut weaves.

Thanks Yodie. I don't know why I feel like it washes me out or something. Like it's just not 100% right. Over-critical maybe?

i think you are being over critical. IMO you look great!! i really like the style on you, i wanna see it with some serious curls. think it would be super cute

How is the top closed off, sewn down or a closure? Could you have the stylist take out a few tracks or do the top over? One of my issues with weaving is the placement of the 'center' I dont like mine to far back because I wouldnt wear my natural hair that way. If she/he is willing make sure you show them where your natural center placement is.

I wish I could help more!!!

Its looks great. The only thing you need to do is use some thinning shears or a flat razor to remove the bulkiness from the crown/bang area.

I looove it! It is big, sexy, voluminous hair. :yep: someone with your hair thickness would not have thin bangs. The hair style mimics what your natural hair would look like if you wore it like that. Don't do anything to the front of the hair, it will settle down some due to just normal wear. If you don't mind sharing, who did it? PM me if you like. I have very thick hair and find it difficult to find someone who can braid a flat base.

i never think swoops with no real part looks good. it always looks doll and wiggish. My recent experience with a silk base closure was horrible too,.. looks wiggish. My tip is to either leave a sliver of leave out so that you can do a real part (works with just a 1/2 inch wide rectangle of hair) or do bangs. You can even do a more edgie bang making it long but assymetrical (my next hair do). The swoop just leaves mystery where most people expect to see even just a hint of scalp,.. but alas,.. its not there.

I'm just OCD with weaves though. OVerall your hair looks great. Maybe put a scarf on to flatten out the front a bit for a more sleek look.

A little makeup will take away that wash out feeling you have. Since the hair is dark and your light its easy to see the blemishes. I like my weaves dark but im a caramel complexion. I used a little concealer and eye make up and it looked ok. The hair is gorgeous by the way.

Color. A bit lighter but I think the volume will go down a bit as time goes by correct?

camilla,
I WAS in NYC, for 13 beloved years. Sniff, sniff.
We just moved to Atlanta this past summer. I really, really miss New York.

I had a track removed, but it still pretty much looks the same. As thickness said, I have a LOT of hair. AND it's natural to boot. Leaving hair out is not an option for me. I got a surprisingly flat braid base, but I'm not thinking there is much I can do really. I did curl it up, and I like it better. I'll have to post pics of it styled that way.

LongLeggedLife, is there a better way to close off a weave with no hair left out? And I appreciate the honesty...I get annoyed when people ask for other people's opinions and then get pissy when they give it to them ;-)

The whole point is that I don't want to put heat on my natural hair, and I want to preserve the length at just past my waist, hence the full weave. I guess I should just go with a curly install and leave some hair out. Maybe I'll go that route.

UGH!!!!!! Or maybe I should wig it??

MY opinion but I think the full weave (no left out hair) is never the way to go... I personally don't like it at all. Especially the longer full weaves because it's almost impossible to avoid doing that huge swoop thing across the forehead. I've worn weaves for about 7-8 years straight. I had my share of full weaves and let's just say I would never do it again. I honestly feel like full weaves either age you up a few years or make you look kinda ghetto/not well put together. My opinion again. Wigs can be very nice. It's also less of a commitment for the most part.

This is how I'm feeling right now...

:whyme:
:crying3:

I just want to put all of this away to keep from shaving it bald. Caught between a rock and a hard place. Want to keep growing it, but it's just too much to handle in it's natural state. Which is now making me rethink...what the he// am I gonna do with it any longer???

A relaxer is looking real tempting right now.

^^^ no need to feel this way. wear the weave for a few weeks. you might end up loving it.

what i would do:
wear some concealer
wear eyeliner and mascara (maybe even some natural looking falsies or partials to make your eyes pop since the weave is really full and is washing your face out)
thin out the top
cut layers (this step ALWAYS makes a weave look better when done properly)
BE CONFIDENT

as far as getting a relaxer... well that's another thing but i thought we were discussing the weave? what problems are you having with your natural hair (that you feel you need to hide it I guess)?

I'm not have any problems with it. It's growing well. It's healthy. It's thick...it just takes more time than I have to give right now.

Styling this head of hair takes a ton of energy. And I'm working on my doctorate, have two kids, a husband and a dog (so it's like I have 4 children)...just moved to a new city, yada, yada, yada. I think in my head, I was like "if I can just take out one factor, life would be easier." I also just hit an age where I'm fighting mid-life.

This is my hair in October. It's a tad bit longer now.

^^^ i'm drooling over here! your hair! your hair is AMAZING!
but anyway i completely understand. i'm currently in school as well. i've definitely gone a whole month without washing my natural 4b hair b/c I just COULD NOT find the time. but i digress. i hope that you can find a happy medium. i really do. this weave will serve you well. take some of the suggestions that the ladies have given you (or not if you don't want to). good luck with whatever you choose!

I would try colour 2 next time. It's a very dark brown and matched my hair colour best (although I'm relaxed)

THANK YOU I WILL POST PICS when i get it done. I am trying to transition:spinning:

MekyakaKinkerbelle, girl I know you've been on the fence about your full sew-in, but seeing yours made me go back to my sew-ins after about 9 months. I got mine on Saturday. When my stylist got done, it looked too "full" to me. She thinned it out with some thinning shears like someone already suggested. At first I was sceptical thinking that it would make it worse, but I'm glad she did because it really made a difference. I like how natural sew-ins look when hair is left out, but I'm on a mission to get my hair to where I want it to be, (TBL) so as long as it's pretty decent, I don't care if it's "not believable". People ask me all the time if my real hair hair is mine...

there are way too many tracks. no matter how nice a weave is, that level of thickness is a dead giveaway and instantly makes it look like a wig.

if you thin it out (and get a lighter brown) it would be 100% perfect. the overall look is nice. and you - and ur natural hair - look great :yep:

This a pic of a full weave from my stylists website. this isnt me but this is one shes done thats a full weave with no leave out and I'm going to ask her to do mine similar to this next time. i just want my bAng a lil shorter and a lil thinner so my whole eye isnt coveres. Just an idea of what u could do with your bang area. i think the length of your bang area is what makes it a bit wiggy but it doesnt look bad at all.
