Braids? Can someone help me?

Now its officially september, I am working and taking some classes in the week and on the weekend. I feel it might be a good idea to get briads. Now I have about shoulder length hair, and the style of briads I want is deep wave and out 18-20 inches. The only thing is if I only have them braid a little bit and leave the rest of my hair out wont it break number 1 and would it look crazy??? (my hair blending in?) My hair has been making progress..so I dont want to mess it up. SHould I just use the same type of hair and get a full head weave (which i hate).

I just want something low maintenace that looks good.

Has someone done this???

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I'm going to tell you my experience.

I had the same thing done during the months of Sept to about early Nov. The hair was straight however and the braids were not too small. My hair at the ends dried out and I had a lot of damage. The hair at the crown of my head especially (I had to grow out a mullet, basically).

I loved them though. I looked amazing, low maintenance and all around just great. You can't really see my hair w/in the braids.. Is your hair relaxed (mine is) Best two months in a protective style..

I'm contemplating a full headed weave.. Why dont you like them??

I had this hairstyle over the summer and it worked out great, for the most part. My relaxed hair is right above shoulder length and it blended well with the curly hair.... until I washed it. After I washed, my hair become tangled and frizzy and didn't blend anymore. Since I paid $240 to get this done I was determined to keep it up for 2 months. So I used mousse and tied my hair down at night...this helped a whole lot.

The biggest problem/task is taking down the braids. You have to be VERY careful. I have 2 friends who had the same hairstyle and both of their hair broke off during this process. One friend got frustrated b/c she didn't comb her hair out before shampooing and it was very tangled. She ended up cutting knots out of her hair. My other friend paid the "professionals" to take hers out and they destroyed her hair. They cut out all of the knots and then under running water brushed/yanked hers out. Her hair was an inch above armpit length and I just had to cut her hair to shoulder length last weekend b/c it was damaged so badly.

I took my braids out by going through each individual braid and combing out the knot and braid as if it were my real hair. I had no breakage, but my hairline suffered a little ( I wore it pulled back most of the time)

So my only advice is to make sure they are taken down properly and with care. HTH

I also lost a lot of hair due to braids. My hairline is essentially gone, and I had to cut off about 2 inches just this week after removing them. I feel ya on the weave. I am just not a fan of wearing fake hair (I'm sick of phony ponies now). Just be careful if you get them. They are low maintenance which is great, just weight the benefits and risks before making a final decision. HTH!
