Hey ladies.
What are some tips for maintaining a texturizer? A friend recently got one, against my wishes, and I don't know what direction to point her in.
I googled it and it didnt get anything really helpful.

Do any of you have texturizers? What are your regimens? She's in high school so she has to keep it simple.

I believe it doesn't matter what chemical process you've done to your hair it still needs to have a moisture/ protein balance. I'm natural so I can't say what she needs and as we all know everyone's hair is different. I can't tell another natural she need to do what I do because it may not work for her. I say dc and protein treatments on a schedule that works for her should be a great place to start. Wish her luck!!

She called it a wave nouveau. I didn't even know there was a difference between a texturizer and a wave nouveau. :-/

If it's the WN then she's going to need to keep it moisturized. WN retails moisturizers, for budget purposes she can stretch the moisturizer out by adding a Glycerine/Water mixture to her routine.

A search here on LHCF will several Glycerine recipes.

She needs to keep it moist sleep in a bag let the curls set b4 she washes it for ab out 2wks, if she sweats a lot she can forget having her curls last in the beginning she needs to do protein treatments to ward off breakage. She needs to keep her stylist under control :look:

Why did she go this route?

She's in high school and an athlete. I'm getting that she was tired of caring for her natural hair and thought this route would be much easier.
Thanks for the advice ladies. Keep it coming.

it IS much easier, imo. the main thing is finding a way to keep it moisturized without it being TOO greasy. also after awhile her hair will begin to shed like crazy. that's where the protein treatments come in.

You have to keep it moist? As in the hair is always wet or damp?

excuse my typos i hate it as much as you.

if you over-moisturize it will be, but if done properly, it should stabilize to soft hair that doesnt leave any excess residue when touched.

Oh ok. Sounds like too much for me. That's one reason I gave up relaxing besides my addiction. But hope it works out for your friend OP. Maybe try searching threads on texlaxing.

I used to texturize. How is she wearing her hair? I wore shingled curly fro's, twistouts, wash & go's, puffs, ponytails and pin ups as it grew out. If she doesn't want wet hair she could use S-Curl for texturizer spray moisturizer and gel activator. I also used Miss Jessie's styling and moisturizers. ICgel too. The clear one because the blue one didn't hold my curls. I also used Nexxus Therapy & Humectress and Neutrogena Deep Moisture shampoo and conditioner. I used Humectress as a leave in hair dressing/creme (stops hair from being crunchy hard) and deep conditioner under a dryer w/plastic cap.
I hope this helps.
