I am getting my hair flatironed this saturday!

I am so hype. this will be my first time since deciding to transition.. so... its been like.. over two years.. almost three i think. :look:

Anyways, I need some advice. I will be going to a salon. I've had this girl do my hair before (she did a flexi rod set though) and i was reasonably satisfied.

I will be getting my hair trimmed and flat ironed.:yep:

My plan:

I plan to DC overnight before i head in, i want to be as moisturized as possible. I may do a DC with my Oyin Honey Hemp or with Trader Joes Nourish Spa... or i could do Aubrey ORganics GPB but that might be too much protein (what do you suggest?)

What do i need to watch out for? I plan to call her tomorrow to ask her method for flat ironing, what heat protectant she plans on using, etc etc. I think I might buy my own heat protectant just in case.

What do you suggest as a first time flat ironer? I don't even want my hair super silky straight, because I REALLY don't want any damage. i would just love to see my length.

I would tell her that you don't want the iron to be too hot. You should actually tell her you don't want it straight. Also, be prepared for her suggestion that you need a trim. figure out whether you will do it yourself or have her do it. If she will do it, figure out how much you're willing to part with at once. Can't wait to see the pics!

It looks beautiful. I was all ready to tell this thread was worthless without pics but you did the right thing! LMBO!!! I cannot wait to straighten my own.
 
Your hair looks great. I'm with the others it is hard to tell if you are still APL but I'm sure even if you're not a good sneeze will bring right back!

i am really nervous... she used a lot of heat... she blew it out (rather lightly) but then flat ironed and used a curling iron. :perplexed i knew better than that! SMH

by the way, ive decided that im a hair away from APL (:lol:).. the trim set me back but i did indeed need it, soits ok. i should be back there soon enough.

oh and :lol: JeterCrazed ... when i moved out on my own and got a little spending money i went CRAZY in the cosmetics department. i need to chill :spinning:

thank you! the brand is La Tourangelle. I got it at the grocery store for like 8 bucks. I use it on my hair for extra shine (and as a light heat protectant when i do light blow drys), and on my face and body before i go to sleep as a moisturizer.. usually mixed with shea and jojoba.

LaBelleLL I went to Abyss Salon in the south loop. I went to Imania. She used to be natural (shes not anymore)... my cousin actually recommended her bc she had heard good things. She did a rod set the first time i went to her and she did this flat iron for me. I like her.

I think I should make a thread in the salon section because now I've found 2 chicago stylists that i can sing the praises of!
